BUS 4034: Auditing

I. Course Description
This course emphasizes the manner in which the assurance function is performed, with an
emphasis on the auditing of financial statement information. It continues with the content
and learning methods introduced in your earlier accounting courses and with emphasis on
understanding relevant professional standards and applying those standards. We will
discuss the application of auditing standards, methods and procedures of auditing,
sampling methods, control systems, control design, and control evaluation are covered.
Prerequisite: BUS 2003.

II. Learning Outcomes


1. Overall auditor responsibilities: Understand the nature of audit risk and an auditor’s
responsibility to detect financial statements misstatements and noncompliance with
laws and regulations.
2. The audit process: Understand the nature of the audit process, including the nature of
and relationships among financial statement assertions, audit objectives, audit
procedures, and audit evidence.
3. Reporting requirements: Apply appropriate audit reporting standards to various
reporting situations.
4. Ethical responsibilities: Apply ethical standards to situations encountered by
accountants

Your final grade will be calculated using the grading scale below:

A 92-100 C+ 76-79
A- 89-91 C 73-75
B+ 86-88 C- 70-72
B 83-85 D+ 65-69
B- 80-82 D 60-64
F Below 60

1. Attendance and Participation (10%)


If you are expected to miss the class, please promptly notify me via email regarding the
absence in advance. Students are expected to preview course materials before the lecture
and actively participate during the lesson.

2. Homework (30%)
There are four homework will be assigned and need to be submitted before classes at the
due date. Homework assignments will be based on chapter exercises or problems from
the textbook. Late homework assignments will not be accepted.

3. Midterm Exam (35%): Oct. 09, Monday

4. Final Exam (30%)


The final exam will be a cumulative exam. The final exam date will be posted by the
University prior to the final week.
