ITEM 6. CLEANING OF EXPOSED FRAME IN BEAMS AND COLUMNS FOR REPAIR
Unit: m2
1. DESCRIPTION
This item refers to the cleaning of the reinforcement exposed to environmental attack before
proceeding with the repair and replacement of the concrete of beams and columns by using an
additive (adhesion bridge) and 20 MPa concrete.

2. MATERIALS, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

For cleaning, you can use the SIKA RUSTEX additive or another similar chloride-free
additive. The use of acids is not recommended because they can damage and modify the
molecular structure of the structural steel surface; If no specific additive for cleaning structural
steel is available on the local market, the bars will be cleaned with a metal brush.

- Sanitized

The surfaces to be treated will be presented in such a way that, at the time of carrying out the
reinforcement work, they are in perfect condition, for which the surface grout, stains, dirt, poorly
adhered parts, remains of other trades, etc., by chiselling, chiselling, scarifying, bush-
hammering or any other manual or preferably mechanical procedure, until obtaining a support
that meets the ideal conditions, in terms of cohesion and roughness, that guarantee good
physical-chemical adhesion of the gluing product.

- Cleaning.

Once the sanitation operations have been carried out and in order to obtain completely clean
surfaces, they will be subjected to any of the systems indicated below:

o Sandblast.

It is the most suitable for this type of work. It consists of projecting a jet of silica sand onto the
support using a compressor with a variable flow rate depending on the distance to the element,
with a pressure of approximately 7 atm. The grain size of the sand will be between 1 and 2 mm
and the operator carrying out the work will be wearing a protective suit ventilated with fresh air.

o High pressure water.

It consists of projecting water onto the support with a minimum pressure of 150 atm, using
special equipment, through a shuttle provided with a suitable nozzle and with a pump pressure
controlled with a manometer.

o Water-sand jet.

A combination system of the others mentioned, in which high-pressure water jet equipment and
a projection lance are basically used with a device that allows silica sand to be incorporated into

environments
the nozzle. (Venturi effect).

If any of the last two types indicated are used, it will be subsequently verified that the cohesion
of the element (internal and on the surface) has not been affected by the treatment (thermal
shock or chemical attack).

- Reinforcement passivation

This unit of work will be applicable in the event that, when cleaning and blasting the element,
exposed reinforcement appears.

Areas with exposed reinforcement will be cleaned with sandblasting. Once blasted, they will be
blown with clean, dry pressurized air to remove any deposited sand and dust.

Next, they will be protected against corrosion by applying two layers of Sikadur® Primer EG
(Phosphate) - if available on the market -, which is a two-component anticorrosive primer,
based on resins. epoxies cured with polyamides and zinc phosphate, with an approximate
consumption of 250 - 300 g/m2 for a dry film thickness of 80 - 100 microns. At least 24 hours
must elapse from the application of Sikadur® Primer EG (Phosphate) until regeneration. On the
second layer, still fresh, you can sprinkle quartz sand with a grain size of 0.4 to 0.7 mm in order
to guarantee the adhesion of the regeneration mortar.

- Regeneration

On the surfaces that have lost coating thickness, a regeneration will be carried out whose
functions are, on the one hand, to restore the original profile to the element, and on the other, to
regularize the surfaces so that the thickness of epoxy resin is minimal. Likewise, special
attention will be paid to the surfaces that will receive the reinforcing laminates.

- The flatness of the surfaces:

 Under 2 m rule: < 10 mm.

 Under 0.20 m rule: < 4 mm.

The areas in which the coating thickness has been lost will need to be regenerated using
mortars based on epoxy resins. The support will be previously primed in order to guarantee
adhesion.

2. FORM OF EXECUTION

If the specific additive is applied, the manufacturer's instructions will be followed.

To manually clean the rust from the steel bars, vigorous brushing will be carried out until
the surface layer of the rust that affects the reinforcement is removed. Next, the concrete
surface will be cleaned and chipping or brushing will be applied to remove at least 5 mm of
Decentralized Infrastructure Unit FACULTY OF DENTISTRY
UNIVERSITY OF SAN ANDRES Structural reinforcement and rehabilitation of
environments
concrete or the thickness that the Construction Supervisor considers appropriate.

Between 30 and 45 min before pouring the 20 MPa concrete, the rough surface of
existing beams and columns will receive the application of a bond bridge (SIKADUR 32
admixture) to ensure proper bonding of the old and new concrete. The application will be made
according to the manufacturer's specifications. For concrete specifications, see the attached
Construction Materials Annex.

3. MEASUREMENT
This item will be measured in square meters.

4. WAY TO PAY
This item will be executed according to the plans and these specifications, as indicated
and approved by the Construction Supervisor. The price paid will be full compensation for the
work, tools, equipment and labor involved.

SIKAFLEX type and will be placed in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications.

3. FORM OF EXECUTION
The preparation of the element that must be reinforced is explained in item 4.

SIKA CARBODUR S512

- Transportation and preparation of laminates

o Transport

Due to the flexibility of the material, which allows it to be easily folded, it is

recommended to transport it forming a roll. This roll can have any length desired,
but it is recommended to take everything that is going to be used in a single
piece (up to a length of 250 m.) and cut the laminate on site to the desired
lengths.
o Cutting and preparation

Cutting the laminate into the desired lengths will be done on site using a hand
saw.
The preparation of the laminates simply consists of cleaning the dust and dirt
deposited on the side that is going to be glued. The other side does not need any
preparation. This cleaning will be done by passing a paper impregnated with
Sika® Colma Cleaner over the surface of the laminate. This operation will be
carried out until there are no traces of dirt or dust on the treated surface.
- Putting into work

Application of the adhesive on the support. Sikadur® 30 is a two-component product

based on epoxy resins and special fillers, which does not contain solvents. To apply, mix
the two components completely with a low speed electric mixer (max. 600 rpm), for at
least two minutes, until a completely homogeneous and gray paste is obtained. Once
the surfaces have been cleaned by sandblasting or another procedure and regularized,
a film between 0.5 and 1 mm thick of Sikadur® 30 will be applied to both the metal sheet
and the element.

- Application of the adhesive on the laminate

Once the laminate is clean, a layer between 0.5 and 1 mm thick will be applied to the
roughest side (the two sides of the laminate are not the same and it is not indifferent
whether to apply the Sikadur® 30 adhesive on one side or the other). .

- Placing the laminate on the element

Once the adhesive has been applied to the support and laminate, it will be placed on top
of it. First, the laminate will be placed without applying pressure until it is verified that it is
perfectly in place. Once the perfect placement has been achieved, pressure will be
applied to the laminate using a hard rubber roller that will be passed along the entire
Decentralized Infrastructure Unit FACULTY OF DENTISTRY
UNIVERSITY OF SAN ANDRES Structural reinforcement and rehabilitation of
environments
length. This will ensure that excess adhesive overflows from the sides, as well as any air
bubbles. Any adhesive that has overflowed should be removed with a spatula. In the end
there should be a continuous glued surface, without air bubbles between the laminate
and support. Due to their low weight, laminates do not need to be laid down and are
held on the support from the beginning.

- Charging

The adhesive acquires its strength from the moment it is placed until it fully hardens
after 7 days. Therefore, it is necessary to wait 7 days until the structural element is
overloaded to its maximum load, and it can be previously loaded with lower overloads
that do not exceed the resistance limit of the adhesive at all times.

SIKA WRAP C300

The material must be protected from possible mechanical attack or contamination, for this
reason it must be stored in its tightly closed packaging. Transport with normal precautions for
delicate products.

- Surface Preparation

The surface must be clean and healthy. It can be dry or damp, but free of stagnant water or ice.
Remove dust, grout, grease, curing compounds, impregnations, grease, foreign particles, loose
material or any other element that prevents adhesion. When the surface is irregular it must be
leveled with a suitable repair mortar. The bond strength of the concrete must be verified, after
surface preparation, by a random tensile bond strength test (ACI 503R) at the discretion of the
engineer. The minimum tensile strength should be 15 kg/cm2 with concrete failure.

- Cleaning method

To prepare the concrete surface, it is recommended to use sandblasting or any other approved
mechanical cleaning procedure that provides a rough texture to the surface.

- Wet application:
o Epoxy mixing

For information on characteristics and mixing of Sikadur® 300, refer to the

product technical sheet. The consumption of Sikadur® 300 epoxy resin depends
on the roughness of the surface and the practice used in the fabric impregnation
procedure, however the approximate theoretical consumption is 350 g/m2 of
product for priming the fabric. surface of the substrate and approximately 650
g/m2 for saturation or impregnation of the fabric.

o Application

Prior to placement of the fabric, the concrete surface must be primed and sealed
using Sikadur® 300 epoxy. The material can be applied by spray, brush or roller.
Decentralized Infrastructure Unit FACULTY OF DENTISTRY
UNIVERSITY OF SAN ANDRES Structural reinforcement and rehabilitation of
environments
SikaWrap® 300 C must be saturated or impregnated manually or mechanically
using the Sikadur 300 epoxy system. In any case, installation must be carried out
by an authorized applicator or qualified personnel.

o Cutting of the fabric

The fabric can be cut to the appropriate length using industrial or heavy-duty
scissors. The use of any dull cutting element that could weaken or fray the fiber
should be avoided.

- Dry application:

Apply the Sikadur® 300 epoxy resin mixture directly to the substrate at a rate of 1–1.5
kg/m2, depending on the surface roughness. Carefully place the fabric on the resin with
rubber gloves and smooth out any irregularities or air pockets using a plastic roller. Allow
the resin to pass through the threads of the fabric. If more than one layer of fabric is
needed, apply an additional layer of Sikadur-300 at a rate of 0.5 kg/m2 and repeat the
previous process. Apply a final coat of Sikadur-301 on the exposed surface at a rate of
0.2 kg/m2.

4. MEASUREMENT
The quantification of the excavated material will be done in square meters.

5. WAY TO PAY
Payment for this work will be made based on the unit price of the accepted proposal. This price
includes compensation for tools, equipment and labor used.

will only be carried out with prior written authorization from the Construction Supervisor,
indicated in the Order Book.

The reinforced concrete casing must be executed in accordance with the dosages and
resistances established in the plans, proposal submission form and in strict compliance with the
technical specifications.

Decentralized Infrastructure Unit FACULTY OF DENTISTRY

UNIVERSITY OF SAN ANDRES Structural reinforcement and rehabilitation of
environments
Likewise, this item includes the supply, cutting, bending, placement and assembly of the
reinforcing ferrule for the reinforced concrete casing structure, which will be placed in the
quantities, class, type, dimensions and diameters established in the design plans, proposal
submission form and/or instructions from the Construction Supervisor.

2. MATERIALS, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

The Contractor will provide all the materials, tools and equipment necessary for the execution of
the work, which must be approved by the Construction Supervisor.

Cement

This material must meet the requirements specified in the item "Construction Materials".

Sand

This material must meet the requirements specified in the item "Construction Materials.

Gravel

This material must meet the requirements specified in the item "Construction Materials".

Water

This material must meet the requirements specified in the item "Construction Materials".

Dilatation meeting

Due to the existence of an expansion joint that separates the old building from the new, during
the pouring of the casing the placement of an expansion joint must be foreseen. These consist
of strips of plastoform, executed according to plans. The sealing material will be SIKAFLEX type
and will be placed in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications.

3. FORM OF EXECUTION
Preparation, placement, compaction and curing
Material dosage
For the manufacture of concrete, it is recommended that the dosage of materials be carried out
by weight.
For aggregates, a volume dosage will be accepted, that is, converting the weights into the
apparent volume of loose materials.

Bagged cement will be used, the dosage will be done by number of bags of cement, the use of
bag fractions being prohibited.

Decentralized Infrastructure Unit FACULTY OF DENTISTRY

UNIVERSITY OF SAN ANDRES Structural reinforcement and rehabilitation of
environments
The measurement of aggregates in volume will be carried out in containers approved by the
Construction Supervisor and preferably they should be metallic and non-deformable.

Mixed
The concrete must be mixed mechanically, for which:

• One or more concrete mixers of adequate capacity will be used and trained personnel
will be used to handle them.

• The uniformity of the mixture will be checked periodically.

The mixing time, counting from the moment in which all the materials have entered, will not be
less than 1 ½ minutes (ninety seconds), but not less than necessary to obtain a uniform mixture.
Excessive mixing that requires adding water to maintain the proper consistency will not be
permitted.

Concrete characteristics
The concrete will be designed to obtain the characteristic resistances of 200 kg/cm2
(compression test after 28 days as indicated by the standards). This means that the resistance
on site will be at least 230 kg/cm2. This criterion takes precedence before applying any
statistical treatment to the results obtained in the laboratory.

The necessary tests to determine the breaking strengths will be carried out on normal cylindrical
specimens of 15 cm in diameter and 30 cm in height, in a laboratory of recognized capacity.
During the execution of the work, control tests will be carried out to verify the quality and
uniformity of the concrete.

Using the Abrams Cone, the consistency of the concrete will be established, recommending the
use of concrete with a plastic consistency whose settlement should be between 3 to 5 cm.

Transport
The concrete will be transported from the concrete mixer to the place of placement in conditions
that prevent its segregation or the beginning of setting. To do this, methods and equipment will
be used to maintain the homogeneity of the concrete and avoid the loss of its components or the
introduction of foreign materials.
For ordinary means of transportation, the concrete must be placed in its final position within the
formwork within 30 minutes of the water coming into contact with the cement.

Placement
Before pouring concrete in any section, the contractor must require the corresponding written
authorization from the Construction Supervisor.

The maximum thickness of the concrete layer should not exceed 50 cm.

Decentralized Infrastructure Unit FACULTY OF DENTISTRY

UNIVERSITY OF SAN ANDRES Structural reinforcement and rehabilitation of
environments

The placement speed will be necessary so that the concrete remains plastic at all times and
quickly occupies the spaces between the reinforcements.

Free pouring of concrete from heights greater than 1.50 meters will not be permitted.

During the placement and compaction of the concrete, displacement of the reinforcement must
be avoided.

vibrated
The vibrators will be of the high-frequency immersion type and must be operated by trained
workers. The vibrators will be introduced slowly and in a vertical or slightly inclined position. The
vibration time will depend on the type of concrete and the power of the vibrator.

Protection and curing

As soon as the concrete has been placed detrimental effects. The curing time will be a minimum
of 7 consecutive days, from the moment the hardening began.

Curing will be carried out by wetting with water, by irrigation applied directly to the surfaces of
the structures as many times as necessary so that the surface appears opaque.

Resistance tests
At the beginning of the work and during the first days, four test tubes will be taken daily, two to
be tested after 7 days and two after 28 days. The tests after 7 days will allow the dosage to be
corrected if necessary.

During the course of the work, at least three test tubes will be taken in each pour and whenever
required by the Construction Supervisor, but in no case should the number of test tubes be less
than three for every 25 m3 of concrete.

It is established that it is the Contractor's obligation to make adjustments and corrections in the
dosage, until the corresponding results are obtained. In case of non-compliance, the
Construction Supervisor will order the immediate cessation of the work.

Formwork and falsework

They may be made of metal, wood or any sufficiently rigid material. They must have the
necessary resistance and stability, for which they will be suitably braced. Prior to placing the
concrete, the formwork will be cleaned and moistened. If you want to apply oil on the interior
faces of the formwork, it must be done prior to placing the reinforcement and avoiding all contact
with it.

Removal of formwork and falsework

The formwork will be removed progressively, without shocks, shakes or vibrations. During the
Decentralized Infrastructure Unit FACULTY OF DENTISTRY
UNIVERSITY OF SAN ANDRES Structural reinforcement and rehabilitation of
environments
construction period, on unsupported structures, it is prohibited to apply loads, accumulate
materials or machinery in quantities that endanger their stability. The minimum deadlines for
stripping are specified in the Bolivian CBH – 87.

Cleaning and placement

Before inserting the reinforcement into the formwork, it will be properly cleaned using steel
brushes, freeing it from dust, mud, grease, paint and anything that reduces adhesion.

If at the time of placing the concrete there were bars with mortar or hardened concrete, these
must be completely removed.

All reinforcement will be placed in the precise positions established on the structural plans.

To support, separate and maintain the reinforcement coatings, mortar supports (biscuits) with
metal ties will be used that will be built in advance, so that they have adequate shapes,
thicknesses and resistance. They will be placed in sufficient numbers to achieve adequate
positions, the use of stones as separators being strictly prohibited.

Special care will be taken to ensure that all reinforcement is protected by the minimum coatings
specified in the plans. The upper reinforcement of the slabs will be adequately secured, for
which the Contractor will have the obligation to build trestles in a convenient number but not less
than 4 pieces per m2. The reinforcement of the walls will be held in position by means of special
S-shaped irons, in an adequate number but not less than 4 per m2, which must grip the external
bars on both sides. All bar crossings must be tied appropriately. Prior to pouring, the
Construction Supervisor must carefully verify the reinforcement and authorize the pouring of the
concrete through the Order Book, if applicable.

Splices in bars
It is prohibited to make splices in bars subjected to tension. If it is necessary to make splices,
these will be located in those places where the bars have the least stress.

In the same section of a structural element, only one splice every five bars may be accepted.
The resistance of the splice must be at least equal to the resistance of the bar.

Overlay splices will be made according to the following detail:

a) The ends of the bars will be placed in direct contact throughout their splicing length,
which may be straight or with hooks according to what is specified in the plans, said
hooks not being allowed in reinforcements subject to compression.

b) Supplementary transverse reinforcement will be placed along the entire length of the
splice to improve the conditions of the splice.

Decentralized Infrastructure Unit FACULTY OF DENTISTRY

UNIVERSITY OF SAN ANDRES Structural reinforcement and rehabilitation of
environments
c) Splices using electrical welding will only be authorized when the Contractor
satisfactorily demonstrates through tests that the steel to be welded meets the
necessary characteristics and its resistance is not reduced, and written authorization
must be obtained from the Construction Supervisor.

Dilatation meeting.

The installation of the joints will be carried out in accordance with what is indicated in the
respective construction plans, at the indicated dimensions and levels, and care must be taken
not to damage them, both in the installation process and in the pouring of the concrete.

4. MEASUREMENT

The quantities of reinforced concrete that make up the complete and finished structure will be
measured in m3. This measurement will include only those works that are accepted by the
Construction Supervisor and that have the dimensions and iron distributions indicated in the
plans or renovated with written authorization from the Construction Supervisor. Reinforcement
armor will be included in this item. When measuring the volumes of the different structural
elements, overlaps and crossings should not be taken into account.

5. WAY TO PAY

The works will be executed according to the plans and these specifications, and will be paid in
accordance with the unit prices of the accepted proposal.

does not comply with this condition will be rejected, even if it has already been prepared. The
material will be worked cold.

The pieces must not have cracks or warping.

They must not have superficial damage or cracks due to bending or chamfering. Such damages
can be avoided by considering the properties of the material: choosing appropriate radii of
curvature and processing the material at an appropriate temperature.

If laminated products are cut by oxycutting or shearing, it must be done with complete accuracy.
If there are cutting defects, grooves, cracks and/or grooves will be eliminated by brushing,
milling, grinding or laminating. It is not permitted to cover defective areas with welding. The cuts
made in the material must be made so that they are clean, without burrs and without
deformations. Small surface defects can be removed by grinding.

The holes for the bolts will be made by drill and it will not be allowed to make them with a torch
or punch.

The holes that correspond between the different pieces to be joined must be coincident, and
boring is not permitted. Burrs formed on the edges of the holes will be neatly removed.
For cutting and drilling profiles, sheets and plates, the measurements on the plans will be
respected.
The parts and subassemblies manufactured in the workshop will be covered with a coat of
primer, including the surfaces that will come into contact with connection plates on site.

3. PROCEDURE FOR EXECUTION

3.1 Element folding

The material will be worked cold. The stresses that occur when bending the elements cold will
be relieved by subjecting them to a temperature of 650 oC ± 25 oC for one (1) hour, per inch of
thickness.

3.2 Tolerances:
Deviations and tolerances will not be greater than those permitted by the corresponding AISC
Standards. The manufactured pieces and their parts will be perfectly straight when viewed.

Decentralized Infrastructure Unit FACULTY OF DENTISTRY

UNIVERSITY OF SAN ANDRES Structural reinforcement and rehabilitation of
environments
In the case of profiles that work in compression and in columns, the deviation will not exceed
1/1000 of the length. The circular holes will be made with a diameter 1 mm larger than the
diameter of the bolt, with a tolerance of more than 0.3 mm and less than 0.0 mm.
Hole taper:

max dia. - min. diam. = 0.08

piece thickness

3.3 Pre-assembled and assembly

The Construction Management will agree with the Contractor all the parts that will be pre-
assembled in the workshop, for their corresponding check. The need for bends or lateral
displacements during assembly in the factory or on site will be cause for rejection of the batch or
lot.

The manipulations necessary for assembly, loading, unloading, transportation, storage on site
and assembly will be carried out by the Contractor with sufficient care to not cause excessive
stress on any element of the structure and to not damage either the piece or its surface finish.

No type of mechanized work or adaptation will be allowed, once the different elements or pieces
of the structure are painted, without the express consent of the Construction Management. The
Contractor will correctly repair, at its own expense and expense, any damage to the protection.

3.4 Inspection and testing:

The Construction Management must have free access to the manufacturing workshop of the
metal structures during working hours, in order to inspect the materials, the quality of the
workmanship, control the progress of the work and attend tests when required. .

The Construction Management will agree with the Contractor which tests he wishes to attend.
When the presence of the Construction Management is required, the Contractor must give
advance notice. If during the inspections the existence of deficient materials, parts or procedures
is verified, the Contractor will be responsible and in charge of correcting such abnormality, at no
cost to the Construction Management.

The Construction Management may require the execution of tests and tests: x-rays of welds,
traction tests, etc. These tests will be the responsibility of the Contractor and when their results
demonstrate deficiencies in materials or workmanship, the repair of the detected deficiencies will
be at the Contractor's expense.

No material will be sent to the construction site without prior inspection, unless specifically
indicated by the Construction Management in writing.
The fact that the materials had been accepted in the factory by the Construction Management
does not cancel the final rejection at the work, if it is not in adequate conditions.

All rejected parts will be eliminated from the supply. To avoid mistakes, they must be marked
immediately with paint using a specific code.
The results of the tests must not indicate signs of lack of resistance or breakage in the elements
of the structures. In the event that any element breaks or shows permanent deformation
considered unacceptable, the Construction Management reserves the right to make the
modifications in the design and the necessary replacements in the elements to ensure adequate
resistance to the loads specified in the tests. The costs will be borne by the Contractor in the
event that a deficiency in material or labor is demonstrated.
Decentralized Infrastructure Unit FACULTY OF DENTISTRY
UNIVERSITY OF SAN ANDRES Structural reinforcement and rehabilitation of
environments
3.5 welded joints
The characteristics of the welds of the structural elements must comply with the provisions of the
AWS Standards.
Electrodes used for arc welding must meet AWS Standards.
Welders will be qualified, with recent test certificates (less than six months) and must be
approved by the Construction Management.

3.6 Heat treatment:

The characteristics of the heat treatment to eliminate residual stresses and welding hardening
will be those established by the AWS Standards.

3.7 Cleaning and protection of parts

3.7.1 Cleaning:
All steel elements of the structure will be cleaned of rust, loose crusts, dust, mud, grease and
any other foreign substance, including welding slag, prior to the painting stage.

3.7.2 Paint:
3.7.2.1 Surface Preparation:
The surfaces to be painted will be prepared in such a way that the paint remains firmly adhered.
The surfaces do not necessarily have to be perfectly smooth, but rather they will be rough
enough in order to achieve adequate penetration and consequently effective adhesion of the
paint to be applied later. . The metal surfaces to be painted will be previously conditioned in the
workshop by cleaning with a brush, sandblasting, solvent and deoxidizers. Mill scales, oxides,
loose corrosion products, dirt, grease and moisture will be completely removed. When any
mechanical deoxidation method is used, whether using rotating elements, hard metal brushes,
wire strikers, etc., percussion instruments that could damage the structural elements should be
avoided as much as possible. In those places such as corners, angles that cannot be reached
sufficiently by mechanical instruments, mechanical derusting must be completed with manual
ones.

When a torch is used to clean structural elements, special care must be taken with thin-walled
elements so that the effect of the flame does not cause damage (change in resistance, danger of
deformation, appearance of stresses, etc.) The weld seams must be sandblasted.

Paint should be applied as soon as possible after cleaning and before any deterioration occurs.
No more than two (2) hours should pass between cleaning and applying the paint.

3.7.2.2 General Standards for the Application of Paints.

Prior to use, all paints, regardless of their type, must be mixed appropriately in order to achieve
perfect homogeneity between the bond and its pigment. During storage they should not be
subjected to extreme temperature conditions, according to the respective manufacturer's
instructions. Before proceeding to apply each coat of paint, it must be verified that the previous
layer is sufficiently adhered and hardened.

You should not paint on wet surfaces, and they must be free of condensation and dust before
applying each coat. The shop paint will be applied in an area or environment free of dust or any
other type of contaminant. Fats and oils will be eliminated using chemical degreasers (carbon
tetrachloride) with anti-flammable and anti-toxic characteristics. For industrial safety reasons, the
use of light petroleum derivatives will be avoided.

Decentralized Infrastructure Unit FACULTY OF DENTISTRY

UNIVERSITY OF SAN ANDRES Structural reinforcement and rehabilitation of
environments
Paint that is very viscous due to solvent evaporation, oxidation or age will be discarded.

Bolts that are embedded in concrete will not be painted, but must be completely clean and free
of rust.

3.7.2.3 Application of Paints:

First: “Shop Paint”: The first paint application will consist of a synthetic anti-rust base protective
layer based on zinc chromate, following the supplier's instructions. It can be applied with a brush
or roller, adding mineral spirits if necessary. For blowtorch application, a special diluent must be
added to prevent clogging of the nozzles. On this background, after twelve hours of application,
it can be finished with any type of finish.

The thickness of the paint layer cannot be less than 40 microns.

Once the components of the structure have been painted with the aforementioned protective
layer, they will be sent to the site for assembly.

Second: “Construction Painting”: Once the structure is assembled, the surfaces will be cleaned
using dry brushes and/or compressed air and where necessary it will be gently sanded and
touched up with a synthetic anti-rust primer. The last paint application will consist of applying one
(1) coat of synthetic enamel using a brush or blowtorch. The color will be orange.

The surface to be painted must be clean, dry, degreased and free of rust and dust particles.

It will be applied with a brush, roller or blowtorch, always in thin layers, adding good quality
mineral spirits if necessary.

3.7.2.4 QA:
The Construction Management will carry out a visual examination of the surfaces that have been
prepared for painting, by either mechanical or manual cleaning methods, to determine the
conformity of the work. The Construction Inspector will be able to observe the progress of the
painting work and will control the completed work to check whether it conforms to the conditions
of this technical specification.
The painted surface must have a uniform, smooth and continuous color appearance, free of any
inclusion, abrasive or foreign element.

3.8 Packaging:
Minor elements such as bolts, plates, etc., must be placed in appropriate boxes with the
corresponding identification specifying the characteristics of the content, quantity and which
structure they belong to.

3.9 Assembly on site:

The Contractor will be in charge of unloading and classifying the materials on the job. The
materials to be assembled on site will be conveniently distributed in the field according to the
assembly sequence. This will be arranged on supports that prevent contact with the ground and
damage to the pieces.

Prior to the start of assembly, the Contractor will verify on site the location of anchor bolts and/or
inserts, informing the Construction Management or whoever it designates about any anomaly in
this regard. The assembly must be governed by the levels, dimensions, axes and tolerances
defined in the documentation and in the applicable standards and specifications.

Decentralized Infrastructure Unit FACULTY OF DENTISTRY

UNIVERSITY OF SAN ANDRES Structural reinforcement and rehabilitation of
environments

For possible modifications to structures manufactured by third parties that must be carried out on
site, the directives of this Technical Specification will be valid, regarding the manufacturing of
metal structures in sizes. During assembly, the use of tools that could damage the structural
components and/or their paint will not be permitted. The execution of holes with a blowtorch will
not be permitted on site. The tightening method to be used when adjusting high resistance bolts
will be the calibrated wrench. The washers will be placed under the element, nut or head, on
which the tightening is carried out. When the angle formed by the surfaces under the head
and/or nut exceeds 5 degrees, wedge washers will be used (one or two if both faces are
inclined). Pneumatic wrenches will be calibrated at least once per work day.

The Contractor shall provide temporary shoring to ensure that the structure is plumb and
properly aligned during erection.

The Contractor must provide all equipment, labor, paint and consumables that are necessary for
the correct and complete execution of the work.

3.10 Security:
The Contractor must provide all the necessary measures, elements and personnel to ensure the
completion of the work in accordance with all current legislation in Bolivia, the Collective Labor
Agreements and any other provision of a National, Provincial, Municipal or Union nature that is
applicable to the time of carrying out the work. All costs of these provisions must be assumed by
the Contractor.

3.11 Inspection:
The Construction Management will have free access to all areas during work hours in order to
inspect the materials and/or quality of the work. However, any inspection carried out does not
release the Contractor from the responsibility of carrying out the work in full accordance with the
Standards and Specifications.

The Construction Management may require the execution of the tests and tests that it deems
appropriate to ensure the quality of the work.

The metal profiles are made up of 15/16” or 24mm aluminum profiles (PEAK FORM). The
uprights for vertical use and the rail for horizontal use located at the bottom and top of the pass-
throughs. The thicknesses and dimensions (section) may vary depending on the structural
design that is carried out, they are fastened with screws to each other and fixed to the floor, wall
or ceiling, forming the structure of the ceiling. The accessories used for the suspension system
are called retaining clamps.

1. MATERIALS, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

The tools needed vary depending on the type of pendants you use, but in general, you will
need: ladder or scaffolding, tape measure, pencil, hammer, electric fasteners, punch, rivet
trigger, screwdriver or drill, small sheet metal scissors, cutting pliers wire, utility knife, level
(water or laser), rope, and compass. Most job sites also require certain safety equipment such
as a hard hat and/or safety glasses.

The false ceiling plates that must be removed to install LED Panel luminaires must be delivered
to the construction supervisor for maintenance replacement purposes.

2. FORM OF EXECUTION
The following instructions must be followed to construct the Armstrong suspended ceiling
suspension system:

Although temperature and humidity recommendations vary from product to product, debris
should be cleared from the space and the space should generally be closed.
Ceilings should be kept clean, dry and protected from the natural elements. Panels should be
removed from boxes 24 hours before installation to allow them to adjust to interior conditions.
Determine the direction of the panel.- The panels can extend in the direction that gives a
pleasing appearance. In spaces with wood beams, the main “Tees” should be oriented
perpendicular to the beams.

Determine edge panel sizes - To determine edge panel sizes, divide one dimension of space by
60cm. You can't start with a full panel on one wall and leave a 20cm border on the other side; It
would look off-center.
Install the perimeter molding.- Leave at least 7.5cm free under the old ceilings, ducts, pipes or
wiring to maneuver a panel accommodated in the suspension opening. Mark the desired height
for the new ceiling, adding the height of the wall molding. Mark a level line around all three walls
and apply drywall tape to the fourth wall.

Secure the molding.- 6d (1- 1/2 in.) screws or nails work well for wood; use metal screws; Use
power fasteners or expansion anchors for concrete and stone walls. The joints between the
inside and outside corners of the molding should be tight.
Install the first main “Tee”.- Install the first section of the main “Tee” (cut the end so that the
route hole of the secondary “Te” is located an equal distance from the edge of the end wall).
Insert a pendant wire into a hole in the pendant wire near the other end of the main tee. Bend
the wire and wrap it around itself three times. Continue introducing all the other wires of the
pendant.

Install the pendants and fasteners.- The pendants must be installed above the main “Tees”,
generally at every 120cm maximum. Place a ribbon of each of the main “Ts”. Attach the
Decentralized Infrastructure Unit FACULTY OF DENTISTRY
UNIVERSITY OF SAN ANDRES Structural reinforcement and rehabilitation of
environments
pendants and wires to the ceiling above the first row of main tees at 120cm intervals. Stretch a
guide rope from one end of the room to the other, under the molding where the first main “Tee”
will be hung.

Install the Edge Cross Tees.- Find the location of the first edge cross tee. Place the end of the
white part of the cross tee against the edge of the perimeter molding on the side and cut the
cross tee where it crosses the guide rope.
Install two 120 cm cross tees between the two main tees, aligning them with the first two cross
tees on the edge. Measure across the diagonals of the 60x120cm opening. The measurements
will be the same if the suspension is square. If it is not, shorten one of the main “Ts” until the
diagonals are equal.

Install the main “Ts” and the remaining secondary “Ts”.- All the slots or routes of the secondary
“Ts” must be aligned so that the suspension is square.
Install the panels.- Tilt the panels slightly, lift them up from the frame and gently rest them on
the secondary “Tee” and on the edges of the main “Tee”. Measure and cut panel edges
individually. Using a secondary tee or section of excess main tee as a straight edge, cut the
panels face up using a very sharp knife or utility knife. Edge panels may need regular detailed
cutting.

Lighting And Other Devices.- Lighting and other devices can (but should not) be supported by
the suspension or the ceilings. Depending on the size and weight of the artifacts, more
pendants may be needed.

3. MEASUREMENT
This item will be measured on the surfaces (m²) of installed ceiling. There will be parts of the
design that require more material to achieve the desired effect, therefore the amount of material
used in square meters will be measured by area .
