Dear apprentice:

Figure 1
Gear Lubrication
Welcome to the Maintenance competition
Preventive of Industrial equipment and machinery.

The use of Industrial Lubricants comes from almost the beginning

of civilization. The first historical developments are
focused on fats/oil from animals or vegetable origins
for the first machinery and means of transport.
Inscriptions show examples of lubrication used to
move large earthenware rocks in the construction of the
pyramids in ancient Egypt, and the question is why is it so
important to use Industrial Lubricants, what is the
Lubrication technique? What are the types of lubricants?
What is a lubrication chart and route?

To answer these questions and others that will follow

formulating during the training, this guide of
learning will allow you to address concepts and techniques that are
Image 1 – Gear Lubrication – They must be taken into account in the machine lubrication processes
Source to all images and graphics according to the operating conditions in order to ensure the reliability
and useful life of the equipment.

The learning activities proposed here are designed to be developed in the training environment (Workshop), within
a collaborative environment (group work), and others individually. Your instructor, who has experience and
experience in lubrication processes, will guide you through each GFPI-F-135 V01
training session for you to acquire the knowledge, and thus be competent in the productive sector, therefore, we
invite you to have an attitude of interest, participatory and responsible.

3. FORMULATION OF LEARNING ACTIVITIES

3.1 Initial Reflection Activities. 2 HOURS

The activities proposed in this first moment (before learning) are intended for you as a learner to become aware of
the importance of strengthening and expanding your knowledge in Lubrication, consequently, for you to be the one
who discovers the need to learn.

Teaching technique : Reflection and argumentation.

Description of the activity :

Lubrication is present in all the machines and mechanisms that we use daily, this is the case of cars, motorcycles,
bicycles, for which it is necessary to apply an appropriate lubricant, but for this we can ask ourselves and question:
What lubricant should I use? What oil reference should I use? What is a Monograde oil? What is a Multigrade oil?
The same oil that I use for
Figure 2

Motorcycle engine is the same for the car or to lubricate the
bicycle chain? What components must an oil have to resist high
temperatures and high loads? What oil can I use in a Hydraulic
System where pumps are used? of pinions, vanes and pistons?
Record your comments and keep them in your evidence folder.
Based on your previous answers, analyze the importance of your
knowledge about Lubrication in your performance as a technician
in the industrial sector. Finally, participate in group socialization
with the participation of your classmates and feedback from your
Instructor.

Activity execution time : 2 hours

Evidence to be delivered : Document in which the development of the questions stated in the description of the
activity is evidenced. The development of the workshop must be delivered physically or digitally in compliance
with the regulations for delivery of work.

Required environment : SENA environment, virtual environment.

Materials : Computer equipment – Lubrication Books – Sena Physical and Virtual Library. GFPI-F-135 V01

A: Lubrication, depending on the equipment that is going to be intervened, has its specific needs, so the operation
that it entails must be validated, determining what its specific needs are to apply the lubricant or oil that best suits
its operation and allows enhance your performance over time.

There are many elements that usually intervene in the application of this supply, it is not the same to apply an oil
with a high viscosity to another with a low viscosity, you have to look at the environment, temperature of the site,
a type of oil for a climate is not the same. cold or humid as for a hot climate, in short it is necessary to analyze the
part to be lubricated and determine the specific needs of the equipment to make the best decision for better
performance.

Starting from my knowledge, which in this field is rather little, or if I have done so, it is more from an empirical
basis but not from a theoretical foundation; I know that from this module I will expand and deepen my knowledge
to make the best decisions regarding what type of lubricant to use, quantities, what reference, what type of
viscosity and all this in favor of better functioning and enhancement of the equipment.

3.2 Activity of contextualization and identification of knowledge necessary for learning

Carrying out these activities allows the first contact with the data, facts, concepts and procedures, to continue with
the correct development of the activities proposed in this learning guide.

Didactic technique : Argumentation based on the experiences obtained by the learner.

lubrication, understanding the interaction of
surfaces in relative motion, in natural and artificial
systems.

2 WEAR It is the erosion of material suffered by a solid surface

due to the action of another surface. It is related to
interactions between surfaces and more specifically to
the removal of material from a surface as a result of
mechanical action.

3 VISCOCITY is an important property of liquids that describes the

liquid's resistance to flow and is related to internal
friction in the liquid.

4 FRICTION It is the force that exists between two surfaces in

contact, which opposes sliding. It is generated due to
imperfections, which are mostly microscopic, between
contacting surfaces.

5 INFLAMMABILITY or flash point is the set of conditions of pressure,

temperature, gas mixture in which a
combustible/flammable substance, usually a liquid,
GFPI-F-135 V01

6 UNTUOSITY It is the property of liquids to adhere to the surface of

solid bodies.

7 DEMULSIBITY Demulsifier is understood as the term for a

compound that is used to make emulsions or a
dispersion of a liquid, it is also used for a
medication or any pharmaceutical product that is
used to soften a swelling.

8 MINERAL OIL It is a light and highly purified ingredient that is

used in baby lotions, cold creams, ointments and
many other cosmetics and personal care products
as it reduces water loss from the skin and thus
keeps it moisturized.

3.3.7. Grease applications in industrial equipment.

Lubrication is an essential element for the proper functioning of the bearing, 70% of bearing failures are due to
lubrication problems.
Lubrication aims to interpose a film of lubricant (called oil film) between the rolling bodies and the raceway, in
order to prevent wear and seizure of the elements in contact.

Didactic technique: Search and analysis of information, which allows the characterization of each topic that helps
its understanding through the strategy of organization and study of the information.

Description of the activity: Based on the explanation and information provided by the instructor, you, the
apprentice, must carry out the development of the following activity based on different applications of

3.3.10. OIL SAMPLING

Teaching technique: Search for information

Figure 40
Oil Analysis
Sampling is the most critical aspect of the analysis
of oil. If a representative sample is not obtained,
all subsequent oil analysis efforts
will be cancelled. There are two main objectives for the
obtaining a representative oil sample:

Maximize information density

Minimize information distortion

To ensure good information density and

minimize information distortion in sampling
oil, the following factors must be considered:

• Location of the sampling port
