GFPI-F-135 - Lubrication Learning Guide - Process 2021
• Project Name: Recovery and maintenance of Industrial machinery and equipment. • Project
Phase: Execution
• Project Activity: Lubricate industrial equipment or machinery.
• Learning Results: Lubricate the Mechanical system in accordance with technical parameters and
regulations.
• Duration of the Guide: 48 Hours.
2. PRESENTATION
Dear apprentice:
Figure 1
Gear Lubrication
Welcome to the Maintenance competition
Preventive of Industrial equipment and machinery.
The learning activities proposed here are designed to be developed in the training environment (Workshop), within
a collaborative environment (group work), and others individually. Your instructor, who has experience and
experience in lubrication processes, will guide you through each GFPI-F-135 V01
training session for you to acquire the knowledge, and thus be competent in the productive sector, therefore, we
invite you to have an attitude of interest, participatory and responsible.
Forward
The activities proposed in this first moment (before learning) are intended for you as a learner to become aware of
the importance of strengthening and expanding your knowledge in Lubrication, consequently, for you to be the one
who discovers the need to learn.
Lubrication is present in all the machines and mechanisms that we use daily, this is the case of cars, motorcycles,
bicycles, for which it is necessary to apply an appropriate lubricant, but for this we can ask ourselves and question:
What lubricant should I use? What oil reference should I use? What is a Monograde oil? What is a Multigrade oil?
The same oil that I use for

A: Lubrication, depending on the equipment that is going to be intervened, has its specific needs, so the operation
that it entails must be validated, determining what its specific needs are to apply the lubricant or oil that best suits
its operation and allows enhance your performance over time.
There are many elements that usually intervene in the application of this supply, it is not the same to apply an oil
with a high viscosity to another with a low viscosity, you have to look at the environment, temperature of the site,
a type of oil for a climate is not the same. cold or humid as for a hot climate, in short it is necessary to analyze the
part to be lubricated and determine the specific needs of the equipment to make the best decision for better
performance.
Starting from my knowledge, which in this field is rather little, or if I have done so, it is more from an empirical
basis but not from a theoretical foundation; I know that from this module I will expand and deepen my knowledge
to make the best decisions regarding what type of lubricant to use, quantities, what reference, what type of
viscosity and all this in favor of better functioning and enhancement of the equipment.
Carrying out these activities allows the first contact with the data, facts, concepts and procedures, to continue with
the correct development of the activities proposed in this learning guide.
Description of the activity : based on the knowledge acquired in other training processes or previous work
experiences, and based on the following video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ack3LV7f6w (Lubricants Part 1)
Individually , the apprentice recognizes his or her prior knowledge about types of lubricants, characteristics of
lubricants, tools for applying lubricants, interpretation of a lubrication chart on a machine.

Based on this prior knowledge, without resorting to
bibliographic sources, prepare a report
answering the following questions regarding
video:
R:// is lubricated starting with its wings, all flight control surfaces that change the shape of the wings, fins, aerodynamic
brakes, arelons, all turning points or mechanical actuators, rudder, landing gear, turbines, etc.
• What requirements are the lubricants used in wind turbines subject to?
In the report, present your point of view regarding the thermal, physical and chemical characteristics of the
lubricants that we currently use to lubricate the mechanisms of different machines. Socialize your points of view in
plenary and share your opinions with other colleagues, accompanied by the
moderation by your instructor. GFPI-F-135 V01
Evidence to be delivered : Word document showing the development of the questions based on the video seen
previously. The development of the workshop must be delivered physically or digitally in compliance with the
regulations for delivery of work.
Materials : Computer equipment – Lubrication Books – Sena Physical and Virtual Library.
A:// Currently we see that the most used lubricants are solid ones given the properties that this element has and offers
minimal internal molecular resistance, so due to its composition it offers optimal lubrication conditions without the
need for a liquid or lubricant contribution. semisolid.

Evidence to be delivered: Completely completed relational table with the application and use of the different
lubrication tools.
Lubrication is an essential element for the proper functioning of the bearing, 70% of bearing failures are due to
lubrication problems.
Lubrication aims to interpose a film of lubricant (called oil film) between the rolling bodies and the raceway, in
order to prevent wear and seizure of the elements in contact.
Didactic technique: Search and analysis of information, which allows the characterization of each topic that helps
its understanding through the strategy of organization and study of the information.
Description of the activity: Based on the explanation and information provided by the instructor, you, the
apprentice, must carry out the development of the following activity based on different applications of
grease in industry and automotive parts. For questions 1 to 4, consult the following catalogue:

1. GLOSSARY OF TERMS
• Oil : Any substance of animal, mineral, vegetable or synthetic origin formed by esters of fatty acids or
hydrocarbons derived from petroleum, generally less dense than water.
• Additive : A compound that enhances a certain characteristic, or imparts a certain new characteristic to
the base fluid, which may reach 20 percent of the final composition. The most important types are:
antioxidant, antiwear, corrosion inhibitors, viscosity index improvers, and foam inhibitors.
• Detergent : In lubrication, an additive or a compound lubricant that has the characteristic of keeping
insoluble matters in suspension, thus preventing their deposition where they could be harmful. A
detergent can also disperse deposits already formed
• Filter : Any device or porous substance used as a sieve for cleaning fluids by removing suspended
material.
• Hydraulic fluid : Any fluid used as a means of energy transmission in a pressurized hydraulic system is
called.
• Viscosity grade : Any system (SAE, ISO, etc.) that characterizes lubricants according to their viscosity.
• Grease : Solid or semi-fluid lubricant composed of an oil or oils thickened with a thickening agent called
soap. Depending on the characteristics of the thickeners or soaps, a mass of solid or semi-solid
consistency will be obtained.
• Lacquer : Deposit resulting from the oxidation and polymerization of fuels and/or lubricants when
exposed to high temperatures.
• Lubricant : Any substance interposed between two surfaces in relative movement in order to reduce
friction and/or wear between them.
• Synthetic lubricant : Lubricant produced by chemical synthesis, rather than by petroleum extraction or
refining, to produce a compound with planned and predictable properties.
• Oxidation : Effect of oxygen attacking petroleum liquids. The process is accelerated by heat, light, metal
