1. Investigate and select a production in podcast format. Substantiate

that choice: why did we choose it? What did we like the most? What
catches our attention?

I chose an episode from the podcast channel called “General Interest”.

Within this channel, we talk about various topics ranging from economics or
different current social problems (such as budget cuts in disability), to topics
such as veganism or different health conditions. One of the things that
caught my attention, and I found it very interesting and is what led me to
choose one of these chapters, is how in a short time (each chapter lasts 5
min), it is developed and explained with simple and understandable to the
general public a specific topic and that often requires technical terminology
so it is not as accessible to most people. In this case we are talking about
color blindness.

2. Generate a technical sheet about the product: what topic does it

cover? who produces it? Who is it addressed to – audiences, ages?

Theme: in this case it deals with a health issue, an ophthalmological

condition: color blindness.

Production: Damián Fernández

Target: general public.

3. Analyze the sound treatment of the production: how do the four

elements of sound language – voice, music, sound effects, silences –
appear? What do you think each of these elements is used for?

The elements of sound language that appear in this podcast are: voice,
music and sound effects.

The voice is the main element. Two voices are distinguished: that of the
host who introduces the topic and carries out the dynamics of the program,
and that of an ophthalmology specialist, who develops and explains the
topic to be discussed.
In this case the music appears in the background, as an atmosphere while
the theme develops. When pauses arise in the voice, the music comes “to
the front” increasing its volume.

The sound effect used is closely linked to the voice. It is applied seeking to
highlight a phrase or concept that is being said, altering its sound in a way
that attracts attention.

4. Do you find an educational purpose in it? Base.

I consider that it has an informative purpose rather than an educational one,

because throughout the podcast it is about providing specific information
and developing a particular topic, in this case color blindness, describing
this condition, the different types and their treatments, but without
demonstrating a any pedagogical intention. That is, it is reduced to the
transmission and reception of information.

However, I believe that even though the podcast itself does not have an
educational intention, it is a good resource and good material to use in the
classroom as an input or trigger in case this or any other topic discussed is
worked on. In the channel.

5. Reflect on the potential that language has when thinking about

educational projects within the framework of initial education.

Within initial education, one of the most used resources when working in the
classroom and most striking for children is sound language. This language
has great potential for carrying out different proposals in the garden, either
through the songs that are taught both to generate habits or customs (such
as washing hands or organizing toys) and so that they are learned by the
children. children for a particular act, or use background music for play
moments. On the other hand, sound language is a very interesting resource
to create, for example, sound effects that could be used for the recreation or
dramatization of a story (like a short play), or as a resource to tell a sound
story.

I believe that as future teachers at this level, it is important that we take into
account all the possibilities that this language offers us, its different uses
and formats, in order to enrich the educational proposals that we bring to the
classroom, as well as to bring closer and encourage students. children to
the different uses of technology in our daily lives.
