ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

First and foremost, we are very grateful to Allah the Almighty due to His blessing that it is
possible for us to finish up this assignment right on time. We had finally managed to
complete this assignment with great determination. All the time we have spent to do
research on the criteria needed to build the bottle rocket were all worth all it.
Furthermore, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to our lecturer of Experimental
Construction (ADE444), Sir Nizar Bin Nazrin, who constantly motivated and helped us in
improving and to have a better understanding about this subject throughout the completion
of this assignment. Lastly, not to forget our classmates who were always ready to help
whenever we have questions regarding this assignment.
I hope that this assignment is complete and fulfilled all the criteria needed.
Thank you.
Criteria
Based on its technical aspect, we use recycle material such as plastic bottle, using hard
paper that has been used and also cardboard.

1) Dimensions:
 Bottle Size: Typically, a 1 or 2-liter plastic Cocola bottle is used.
 Height: About 30-35 cm (12-14 inches) for a 2-liter bottle.
 Diameter: Approximately 10 cm (4 inches) for a 2-liter bottle.

2) Basic Layout:
 Main Body: The bottle itself serves as the main body and pressure vessel.
 Nose Cone: Adds aerodynamics and houses any payload. Can be made from
lightweight materials like plastic or cardboard.
 Fins: Provide stability during flight. Usually, 3-4 fins are attached symmetrically
around the lower part of the bottle.
 Launch Lug: A small tube or guide for the launch rod, ensuring the rocket travels
straight until it gains enough speed for stable flight.

For the theme and concept applied, we only use simple things from a recycle thing. We
focus more on the wings and also to the rocket head. We make sure the head is very pointy
and straight. For the body part, we make sure that the bottle did not leak and break, if its
leak or broken the bottle cannot fly farther and higher because we use air pump to push the
rocket to fly.

3) Materials:
 Main Body: Plastic soda bottle
 Nose cone: plastic, cardboard, or lightweight wood like balsa
 Adhesives: hot glue or strong adhesive tape (duct tape)
 Parachute (optional): lightweight plastic or cloth for recovery.

4) Aerodynamic Considerations:
 Nose Cone Shape: The nose cone should be streamlined, typically conical or
parabolic, to reduce drag.
 Fin Design: Trapezoidal or triangular fins work well.
 Size: Large enough to provide stability but not so large that they create excessive
drag.
 Placement: Evenly spaced around the lower third of the bottle for balance.
 Surface Smoothness: Ensure all surfaces are smooth to minimize air resistance.
 Weight Distribution: Keep the center of mass (COM) toward the front by adding
weight to the nose cone if necessary. The center of pressure (COP) should be behind
the COM for stable flight.
5) Steps:
 Use 2 plastic bottles, cut one of them in half and tape them together.
 Cut 4 pieces of thin cardboard for its wings.
 Stick the wings to the rocket with a slight curve in the same direction so that the
rocket can spin spirally (to make sure that the rocket can fly straight).
 Cut hard cover paper and fold it into cone shape and tape it to the rocket.

Tips:
In order to make your rocket fly further and higher, we must choose a correct size of bottle,
small size of bottle is recommended, the bottle cap must be fit with the air pump so that we
can reduce the number of air release.
