TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION FOR TRUCK MOUNTED FIRE FOAM TENDER OF 2000 LITERS CAPACITY.
GENERAL:
Fabrication of Fire Foam Tender mounted on 7 ton GVW cabin chassis (TATA/Ashok Levland/Eicher
for _equivalent_make, WB approx. 3400-4200mm of BS-VI_model) with factory bullt cabin
accommodate with 2 seats (driver + officer) and all accessories & equipment’s. These specifications
cover the design, manufacturing, inspection, testing supply and delivery of Fire Foam Tender with
accessories strictly as per the specifications laid down.
WATER TANI
The water tank should be of 2000 litres capacity made of Mild Steel (MS) 2062 5.0 mm thick sheet
complete and baffles made from Mild Steel (MS) 3.00 mm thick sheet fitted on the chassis so as to
full flow of the water to the pump. The tank should have baffles plates to avoid surge when the
vehicle is breaking, accelerating and cornering. All welding areas should be smoothened with the
use of grinder. Tank should be cleaned and dried before painting.
‘A cleaning hole of 250 mm dia should be provided at the bottom of the tank. The cleaning hole
should be fitted with a 25 mm dia drain pipe with a valve and plug connection and should be taken
down toa point well below the chassis without reducing the effective ground clearance.
The tank should be fitted with a minimum 50 mm dia, overflow pipe taken down to a point well
below the chassis without effecting the effective ground clearance when fully loaded and discharge
away from the wheels. A 63mm instantaneous hydrant connection incorporating a strainer should
bee provided close to the pump control panel for filing the tank thraugh a 80 mm dia pipe for
feeding the hose reel equipment. A 80 mm pipe line shall be taken from the tank to the suction
Inlet of the pump incorporating @ 80mm quick action spherical valve.

Tank— Pump-Cooling TankFOAM TANK:
The foam tank should be rigid type of 200 litres capacity and should be fabricated out of die
pressed $§ 304 of 4.00 mm thick sheet. The Foam tank should be mounted on the chassis as.
separate and distinct unit which can be removed for replacement and maintenance etc.
The foam tank should be tested hydraulically at a pressure of 0.3 kg/em?.The foam tank should
have a filling orfice of not less than 250mm dia with a removable strainer fitted to it. The strainer
should be of such material that it should not have any adverse effect on it as its in constant touch
with foam compound which is in the foam tank. The strainer screening should have an adequate
area for quick filing of compound in the foam tank. The filler cap should be clearly marked as
tOAM",
The tank should be suitably baffled to prevent surging while the vehicle is in motion, standing on
uneven ground or when sudden brakes are applied for stopping. The design of the tank should
incorporate a removable sump fitted with a drain valve. The foam compound draw off tube should
be positioned in the centre of the sump in such a manner that foreign body or sludge should not
pass into the compound line.
The draw off tube should be fitted with gauge strainer of suitable material, mesh size and adequate
straining area,
Means should be provided for automatic venting of the foam compound tank when the foams are
produced or filling of the tank. This vent should not be in the cap.
A suitable transfer pump should be provided for transferring foam compound from drums to the
foam compound tank without causing any frothing in the tank. Necessary connection should be
provided for transferring the foam compound through this pump.
Provision should also be made for drawing foam compound in to the foam producing system from
the external source through a pick up tube while producing foam.
FOAM COMPOUND PROPORTIONATOR:
‘Automatic foam proportionate arrangement should be provided where the induction ratio of foam
compound/water solution and flow of water are automaticaly varied as desired merely by opening
and closing the monitor or hand lines. This should be achieved without any complex system of
linkage that may be susceptible to distortion due to chassis flexion. Auxiliary pick up foam external
source should be provided with a shut off valve.
DELIVERY OUTLETS:
There should be 2 numbers delivery outlets having standard gun metal instantaneous female
couplings with screw down type delivery valves with blank caps. It should have twist type lugs made
of gun metal
HIGH PRESSURE HOSE REE!
Two high pressure hose reels with high pressure guns to facilitate operation of the high pressure
section of the fire pump should be provided and should be such mounted so it can be easily
accessible for use from either side of the appliance. The hose should be prevented from kinking.
The hose should be light weight PVC and the working pressure should not be less thandOke/em2
without affecting the discharge pattern. The weight of the gun should not be more than 3 kg.‘MULTIPURPOSE WATER CUM FOAM MONITOR:
Multipurpose water cum foam monitor should be light in weight and should be suitable for ground
‘as well as deck mounting. The monitor body should be made of anodized aluminium allay. It should
hhave SS ball bearing swivel joint. It should have 3600 rotation in round mode and. It should have =
150 downward to +450 upward movements with safety lock in deck/stand post mode. It should
hhave two 63mm size male instantaneous coupling as per IS: 903/BS: 336 with NRV. It should have a
suitable discharge to match with pump of 2250lpm at 7 bar pressure, The monitor should be
‘mounted on SS legs having carbide tips for providing better stability on hard surface, The monitor
should be equipped with a safety closing valve (Automatic) which should
Reaction force in case monitor lifts from the ground in ground operation. The reach of water
discharge stream should not be less than AOmeters at 7kg/em2. Monitor should be provided with 3
hollow jet water foam nozzle, The weight ofthe monitor with nozzle should not exceed more than
28g.
PIPELINE AND VALVES:
All pipeline and pipe fittings of ‘8-lass Gland all valves up to SOmm size should be 3- piece
design $5304 ball valve. All valves above 50mm size should be standard Butterfly valves
‘Al piping should be sized so as to have minimum pressure drop and achieve the required
pressure and flow at various locations.
All piping shall be designed for 10% over the maximum pressures encountered in the pipe.
The piping shall be flanged for ease of maintenance, However flange joints to be kept
minimum,
All lines should be hydraulically tested at 1.5 time ofthe design pressure and pressure should
be hold for two hours
All lines shall be suitably supported so as to provide rigidity and avoid vibrations
Allies les than SOmmNB size can be socket welded to matching rating fittings
Alllines above SOmm NB size shall be butt welded with full penetration welds.
All Bots Nuts and Weshers used should be of $5304.
CONTROL PANEL:
‘Adequately illuminated control panel should be provided near the pump.
The control pane should include the following:

@ Pressure gauge 0-17.Skg/em2 for low pressure(Glycerin filled)
@ Pressure gauge 0-50kg/em? for high pressure(Glycerin filled)
@ Compound gauge(Glycerin filled) calibrated as under:

pum:
The centrifugal pump should be single stage UL certified, HP/LP made of copper alloy (Gun Metal)
having discharge capacity of 1800 LPM @ 7 kg/cm2. The pump body should be made of gunmetal
with SS pump shaft and should be carried in anti-riction bearing. Shaft seal should be self-adjusting
maintenance free mechanical ype.The delivery outlet of pump should be connected to monitor with two nos. screwed 63 mm delivery
female outlets instantaneous type with blank caps at the rear side along with the twist type lugs
‘made of GM. The monitor and other outlets should be fitted with lever operated valves. The pump
should have one suction inlet of 100 mm size on rear side and should be provided with the strainer,
which should be removable easily.
POWER TAKE OFF
Syall / VAS make PTO of heavy duty type and the lever for engaging the PTO should be provided in
the driver's cabin. PTO provided should take into consideration the available engine power when
the highest requirement of the pump power. Light indication for engagement of the PTO should be
provided on the dashboard in driver's cabin,
CABIN BODY AND STOWAGE:
Separate crew cabin for four persons shall be provided. The cab should be covered with
2.0mm aluminum chequered plate rigidly fixed to the under frame cross members by means of
nuts and bolts or riveting except for mudguard arches which shall be covered with 1.6mm.
aluminum chequered plates or of suitable MS sheet.
One roof light in the cabin to be provided.
The crew cabin should be provided two full doors. All the doors should be fitted on the
superstructure members and should hang on three invisible coach type MS stout hinges and must
be fitted with best type handles.
Below the crew seat two lockers/suitable space should be provided one each for battery box
and for keeping tools and other small accessories. To connect batteries extra battery cable is to be
provided
‘The crew seat should be rigidly fixed to floor by means of nuts and bolts. it should have length
as per the width of the vehicle and should be suitable for accommodating of five numbers
fireman/crewmembers. Seat should be covered with 75mm x SOmm cushion latex foam rubber
upholstery of good quality and of approved shade.
‘The rear body should be fabricated in continuation and inline. The under frame cross
members should be provided from MS rolled channel of size of 100 x50 xSmm.
The runner of size of 100 x50 xSmm should be provided over the entire length of the chassis,
for uniform distribution of load over the chassis.
Each cross members should be secured to the chassis by 16mm dia ‘U’ bolts with alurninum
ppacking and self-locking nuts.
Balata packing of thickness of 6.0mm should be provided between the chassis frame and
cross members.
The structure/frame work should be of welded construction and of size 2.0mm thick
galvanized MS pressed section square tubes of size 38 x 38mm. The angles and channels should
hhave minimum thickness as 2.0mm. Two coats of epoxy paint should be applied on the entire
welded structure. The structure/frame work should be so fabricated/designed that so that it can
avoid any vibrations/ratting/deformation during the use of the vehicle.
The details of superstructure are as follows:
@ Under frame cross members: 100 x50 x5mm minimum@ Floor longitudinal members: 50 x50 x6mm minimum
The interior paneling should be done from 1.2mm thick aluminum sheet and the exterior
ppaneling should be dane from1.6mm thick aluminum sheet.
The roof on the cabin of the vehicle should be covered with 1.6mm aluminum chequered
plate. All the locker sides and complete rear of the vehicle should be covered by minimum
1.22mm aluminum chequered plate. The complete rear deck and all locker floor and rear foot
‘board should be covered with minimum 2.0mm thick aluminum chequered plate.
Sufficient number of lockers with suitable shelves/partitions/roll in roll out trays on both sides
of vehicle for secure stowage. One through and through locker should be provided immediately
behind the driver's cabin. All space available below the chassis level frame should be utilized by
providing lockers with proper doors. These doors should be fitted with suitable chains and hooks on
booth sides so that these can be used as faot board.
All lockers should be provided with internal automatic lighting arrangement with the master
switch in the cab.
All lockers above chassis floor should be covered with hinge type doors.
Suitable storage space should be provided to store 4Nos, 2.5 meter length suction hoses with
couplings.
(MISCELLANEOUS:
Bumper which is supplied by the vehicle manufacturer should be fixed at rear on the
superstructure members by means of nuts and bolts.
‘Two cat ladders made out of SS round/square pipes of size 25mm dia should be provided.
2.Nos, 25mm dia aluminum pipe railing with sufficient number of aluminum double socket,
brackets should be provided to the rear body over the deck.
‘Aheavy duty towing hook should be provided and fitted on the rear dumper by means of nuts
and bolts,
‘Six numbers aluminum hooks for keeping the uniform clothing should be provided in crew
compartment.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:
All the important electrical circuits should have separate fuse and indication of the group to
be provided. The wiring should be single pole with negative earthing,
Electrical siren working on12/24V, DC supply should be fitted at suitable place along with two
controlling push buttons one on the officer's side and another one at driver's side.
Two rotation beacon lights with Amber lens are to be provided at the top of the driver's cabin,
All other lights, pump cabin light, locker’ lights, controlling switches of lights on dash board
should be of reputed make.
Two fog lamps of approved make should be provided and fitted on the front bumper with
controlling switch on the dash board.
‘Adjustable search light assembly should be provided at a convenient position on the top of
the rear body deck with 30meters cable drum with rexene cover.
Hooter cum PA system should be provided with a speaker on the driver’s cabin with rexene
cover. The output of the system should be 25W.
‘An adjustable light at a convenient position should be provided at the rear of drive’s cabin to
Bive a flood/beam of light.
PAINTING:
The complete structure material should be treated for anti-corrosion by epoxy. Two coats of
epoxy paint should be applied on the complete welded structure.‘The complete external and internal aluminum paneling of driver cum crew cabin and rear
body should be painted with two coats of zinc chromate paint
The complete exterior of the vehicle should be painted with two finis coats of “POST OFFICE
RED” polyurethane paint manufactured by ICI Dulex/Nerolac/Dupont.
‘The internal painting of cabin lockers etc should be done with two coats of grey synthetic
enamel paint manufactured by ICI Dulex/Nerolac/Dupont,
‘The name of the fire service/organization should be painted/pasting stickers on both side of
vehicle in letters of suitable size in golden yellow color with black color shading.
‘The "EMBLEM" of the department should be painted pasting stickers on both sides of vehicle
in natural colors at suitable place.
LADDER WITH GALLOWS:
The gallows shall be provided to carry a 10.5 m Aluminium extension ladder. Ladder can be
released without difficulty from a reasonably accessible position and shall embody rollers to permit
‘easy withdrawal by one man. Means shall also be provided for locking the ladder when stowed.
