PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES
Before choosing a tool:

9 SCHOOL
“reF INGENIEROS YCOISULTORES SAC
Force operations:
The handle of simple grip tools (hammers, screwdrivers,...)
must allow the fingers to surround it. As a reference
criterion, the diameter of the handle should be between 30
and 50 mm.
In double grip tools (such as pliers) that are
handled with one hand, the distance between
handles will remain between 50 mm. (Closed
position) at 90 mm. (Open position).

• The length of the handle will be greater than the maximum width of
the hand (between 100 and 150 mm), thus
preventing the ends from pressing on the nerves
and blood vessels in the palm of the hand.
• For operations that require maintaining
permanent pressure, use double grip tools that
have a clamp holder or clamp lock.
• For operations requiring repetitive tightening,
use tools grip
double that have a return spring that facilitates
the opening of the handle.
• The handle of the tool will have no sharp edges
and its surface will have the highest possible
coefficient of friction.

• Blows and cuts in general.
• Particle projection.
• Exposure to noise.
Precautionary measures
• Select the chisel model according to the operation to be carried
out and use a hammer appropriate to its size.
• Hold it with your thumb and index and middle fingers near the
top. Whenever the characteristics of the work allow it, the
chisel will be held with the palm of the hand facing up.

CHISEL
• Keep the chisel head flat, without
S burrs, free of oils and greases.
Use handguards attached to the chisel to
avoid blows to the hand that holds it.
Work in the opposite direction to the body.
Install partitions or screens to prevent the
projection of particles onto other workers
who remain close to the workplace.
The edge of the chisel will remain well
defined. When sharpening the chisel,
You should try to maintain the original angle
of the cutting edge.

Precautionary measures
• Choose a saw suitable for the type of material and cut to be
made.
• The material to be cut must be sufficiently fixed. In your case, use
jacks, vices.
• Adjust the cutting speed to avoid overheating the blade.
• As a reference consider:
V For cutting medium hard metals, the saw should be operated at a
speed of 400 to 500 rpm per minute. For harder metals the
cutting speed will be reduced.
V For wood, the cut will be made with a long and unforced
movement.
V Before cutting pieces of wood, check the existence of metal
elements, points, staples.
08/09/2016 74
SAWS
• When changing blades in an already started cut, the new blade
usually jams. Therefore, in these cases, it will be necessary to
start the cut again.
• Before cutting hard material, it is advisable to make small grooves
to prevent uncontrolled movements of the saw.
• Apply pressure only on the forward path, lifting the saw slightly
on the reverse path.
• Store them in a dry place (shelves or hanging from the handle).

TOOL STORAGE
• The tools must be stored in an appropriate place, in an
organized and separated manner according to their engineering
characteristics.
• Store tools perfectly organized, in appropriate boxes, panels or

TOOL TRANSPORTATION
Various precautions will be observed when transporting tools:
• Use specially designed boxes, bags and belts if required.
• For sharp or sharp tools, use appropriate covers and never carry them in your pocket.
