TOOL
DEFINITION

Manual tools are work utensils generally

used individually that only require human
motor power to operate; The use in an
infinite number of work activities gives
them great importance, therefore they
must be in perfect condition and be
properly inspected, they can be
operational or standards

PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES
Before choosing a tool:

• Consider the conditions of the work you are going to do.

• Observe that the shape, weight and dimensions correspond
to its intended use.
Consider that a bad choice can be
direct cause of an accident, increase the
fatigue and even cause muscle injuries

Force operations:
The handle of simple grip tools (hammers, screwdrivers,...)
must allow the fingers to surround it. As a reference
criterion, the diameter of the handle should be between 30
and 50 mm.
In double grip tools (such as pliers) that are
handled with one hand, the distance between
handles will remain between 50 mm. (Closed
position) at 90 mm. (Open position).

• The length of the handle will be greater than the maximum width of
the hand (between 100 and 150 mm), thus
preventing the ends from pressing on the nerves
and blood vessels in the palm of the hand.
• For operations that require maintaining
permanent pressure, use double grip tools that
have a clamp holder or clamp lock.
• For operations requiring repetitive tightening,
use tools grip
double that have a return spring that facilitates
the opening of the handle.
• The handle of the tool will have no sharp edges
and its surface will have the highest possible
coefficient of friction.

Team Selection Criteria
Do not use saws that have:

• Handle not very resistant or cracked.

• Lack of sharpening or irregular sharpening.

• Twisted blade.
• Poor state of conservation.

Risks

SAWS
Precautionary measures
• Choose a saw suitable for the type of material and cut to be
made.
• The material to be cut must be sufficiently fixed. In your case, use
jacks, vices.
• Adjust the cutting speed to avoid overheating the blade.
• As a reference consider:
V For cutting medium hard metals, the saw should be operated at a
speed of 400 to 500 rpm per minute. For harder metals the
cutting speed will be reduced.
V For wood, the cut will be made with a long and unforced
movement.
V Before cutting pieces of wood, check the existence of metal
elements, points, staples.

SAWS
• When changing blades in an already started cut, the new blade
usually jams. Therefore, in these cases, it will be necessary to
start the cut again.
• Before cutting hard material, it is advisable to make small grooves
to prevent uncontrolled movements of the saw.
• Apply pressure only on the forward path, lifting the saw slightly
on the reverse path.
• Store them in a dry place (shelves or hanging from the handle).

• The cutting part of the chisel must always be sharp. For manual
sharpening, the stone will be held on a workbench (do not
sharpen by holding the stone with your hand).
• When not in use they will be stored on shelves or inserted in
sections with slots. Do not leave them loose in drawers or among
other tools.
