transformer noise.
At joints between columns and yokes, laminations should be properly cut to minimize leakage.
The core will need to be treated with nonhygroscopic and corrosion-resistant paints.
The core and windings should be able to withstand all possible dynamic and thermal stresses
during operation, including those caused by three-phase short circuits at the terminals.

Windings
The windings will be of the anti-resonant type and, unless otherwise stated in SdA, will be made
of aluminum.
The regulation sockets, installed on the MV winding, shall be made so as to avoid amperspire
imbalance. Regulation will be executable through suitable terminal blocks, with the transformer
disconnected.
Compared with the nominal value, the adjustment will be ±2x2.5%.
The connections of the LV side should be soldered.

Insulation
The windings will generally be drowned in the insulating resin by autoclave pressure process, or
similar procedures. The resin used should be free of additives similar to trihydrated aluminia.
The insulating resin should be of the epoxy type; the curing process should take place under
vacuum at high temperature to allow the elimination of any gases present in the still-flowing resin.
The resin used should ensure the following main properties:
 Tightness to impulse stresses;
 Tightness to short-circuit stresses;
 Self-extinguishing upon cessation of the cause of fire
 coefficient of thermal expansion as close as possible to the coefficient of thermal expansion
of the conductors used.
The transformer shall have a partial discharge level less than or equal to 10pC in accordance with
IEC 60076-11.

Unless otherwise stated in SdA, transformers will be made with natural ester insulation, with
natural circulation air cooling (ONAN) throughout the operating range.
If indicated SdA, tangential fans may be provided for forced ventilation of the machine (ONAF).

The MV/MV elevating transformers, will generally be enslaved to generating sets

(turboalternators); these transformers should be sized keeping in mind that they may be subject to
the effects due to load shedding; consequently, they should be able to withstand for 5 seconds a
voltage equal to 1.4 times the rated voltage at the terminals connecting with the generator.

In the case of mineral oil-insulated transformers, the latter must comply with current standards,
with no PCBs.

Core
The magnetic core shall be made of low-loss crystal-oriented silicon plate, insulated with carlite
or other equivalent product. The magnetic core, the armature and the magnetic flux conveyors,
shall be electrically connected to the box at one point only by means of a copper rope with a cross
section of not less than 150 mm2.
The connections between the core, armature, and case, to be arranged at the top of the core, must
be accessible from the outside through suitable loops protected with removable guarding and easily
disconnected to allow verification of the insulation between armature and laminations during the
life of the machine on the installation.
Any magnetic flux conveyors mounted on the case and armatures must be grounded individually
at a single point by means of a disconnectable connection for the purpose of enabling verification
of the insulation with the active part removed.

Fans must have IP20 degree of protection. Fan motors must have no fewer than 8 poles and IP55
degree of protection.
Fan impellers must be made of metal material and protected by wire mesh in accordance with CEI
EN 60529. In addition, suitable protection must be provided between the radiator and the fan (grille
or other constructive device), to prevent splinters from hitting the radiator in case of breakage of
the latter with the possibility of damage or other suitable system, to be submitted for prior approval.
The transformer supplier must make the panel containing the fan starters and related cooling
system management logic so that possible malfunctions are reported.
Any AC power failure is signaled using discord logic i.e., switch closed and contact open.

 Maximum oil: 60K,
 Average winding temperature: 65K,
 Hot spot windings: 78K.

No-load current
In operation, the transformer may have to operate under overexcited conditions relative to rated
operation; therefore, the no-load current requirements place constraints that relate to this condition;
the prescribed no-load current must be ≤ 0.1% of rated current; under overexcited condition, with
flux corresponding to voltage increased by 10% of rated value, the no-load current must not exceed
0.2% of rated current.

current must be determined as per IEC EN 60076-5 not considering the impedance of the upstream
network. Short-circuit exposure times, as an exception to the standard, are 0.5 seconds.

Overload
The transformer must be overloadable according to the specifications given in IEC 14-15.
No limitation to such use should therefore result from the sizing of the feedthroughs, the on-load
tap-changer or other components.

Noise levels
Noise power levels of transformers energized at rated voltage must not exceed the following
values:
 LwA sound power level: 74dB
 Sound pressure level LpA: 58 dB

The prescribed limits, in accordance with IEC EN 60076-10, are the sum of the sound pressure

approval.

6.3.2. Certification and testing documents

The outcome, as well as the quantities measured during acceptance testing, should be recorded on
special forms.
These forms must be countersigned by the Supplier and the TME Inspector.

7. GUARANTEED PERFORMANCE
The supplier shall guarantee the following performance at the rated operating value:

 Electrical power output

 Power factor
 Voltage
 Yield
 Noise level

8. MAINTENANCE
The equipment should require little maintenance.
Under no circumstances should the equipment require scheduled maintenance with intervals of
less than 1 year.

The Supplier shall take responsibility for minimizing the risks associated with planned
maintenance activities, such as exposure to hazardous parts, accessibility, parts handling, spills,
etc.

9. TARGETS

11. REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION

12.1. Generalities
All work and activities related to what is supplied must be carried out according to a plan to be
developed by the supplier based on the elements communicated by TME and in accordance with
the listed reference standards.
The supplier is fully responsible for the design and must therefore take a diligent part in requesting
from TME, in a timely manner, any clarifications, missing data and documents and, in performing
the necessary checks and controls, noting any discrepancies between the documents provided.
If no deviation to the documentation delivered by TME is clearly evidenced at the bidding stage,
it will be considered fully accepted.

The degree of detail in the drawings must allow the identification of each circuit and component,
to allow both inspections and interventions for repairs and maintenance.
Listed below are the types of drawings that, in general, must be provided and developed on the
basis of a detailed design plan; TME reserves the right to specify particular requirements in the
SdA.

The documents should be written on standard TME formats and should be properly completed
according to the criteria outlined in the TME procedure.

The Supplier shall prepare the design in full compliance with this Technical Specification and shall
submit it to TME for approval prior to the start of construction.

Approval for construction will be given after the Final Customer's approval of the drawings;
therefore, the supplier must take on board any comments from the Final Customer.

The approval issued by TME to the design drawings does not imply the assumption of
responsibility by TME itself and, therefore, does not change or reduce the responsibility of the
supplier who remains fully responsible for the design entrusted to it.
The supplier must keep its own drawings (its own and third-party) up to date according to the
actual "as built" situation by increasing the edition (revision number) on its originals.

12.2. List of required papers

All documents must be prepared in an electronic version. At the approval stage, it will be sufficient
to send the "PDF" version; for as-built editions or those related to a particular phase of the project,
it will be necessary to receive the editable version as well.
Documents should also be prepared in hard copy version to be provided to the End Customer; the
number of copies will be indicated in SdA
Documentation may be requested in bilingual versions, depending on what is indicated in SdA.

In principle, a single document (with a unique TME identification number) should be produced
for each transformer supplied, containing at least the following:
 Overall and dimensional drawings (including weight and heat dissipation data)
