CHAPTER I. INTRODUCTION

This systematic review is carried out because we want to know the greatest number

of techniques and methodologies used by companies worldwide in supply chain

management, and to be able to compare them taking into account the sector, size and

location of the company in the which applies certain techniques and methodology in

supply chain management, given that there are many ways in which companies carry out

supply chain management and there is also a wide variety of companies, this allows for a

broader vision of this topic, but we will focus on the ordering process part, to propose an

improvement in this process.

What are the techniques and methodologies used in supply chain management

in order to guarantee customer satisfaction in the last 5 years?

Identify the techniques and methodologies in supply chain management used in the

last 5 years and compare them to select one of them and propose it for the management of

the supply chain of a heavy machinery rental company.

CHAPTER II. METHODOLOGY

A “systematic review of the scientific literature” will be carried out on the supply

chain management techniques and methodologies of the last 5 years. The process of this

review is referenced to the systematic review guide prepared by Juan D. Velásquez, MSc,

PhD from the National University of Colombia, where said guide refers to the parts that

make up a systematic review. (Velásquez, 2014). Given that supply chain management can

vary depending on the company, products or services it offers, it is very important to be

able to review the greatest number of techniques and methodologies used in SCM, and to

be able to identify the advantages and disadvantages of each of them. These, in order to

select the most appropriate one for the SCM of a heavy machinery rental company and to

be able to define which one could be proposed, it is important to consider all of the last 5

years.

To carry out the systematic review:

First, a search will be made for primary studies on techniques and methodology of

supply chain management (SCM), in the online catalog of a UPN and in Google Scholar.

Second, from the primary studies found, those that have been published for a

maximum of 5 years will be selected.

Third, all primary studies that have reference to or consider companies that are in

the service provision field, if any, will be filtered.

Martos López, Angelica P. 12

“SYSTEMATIC REVIEW OF TECHNIQUES
AND METHODOLOGIES OF THE MANAGEMENT OF THE
“SUPPLY CHAIN”

Fourth, of those that are selected, a table will be prepared that presents all the

primary studies, where this table will contain the title of the article, author, year, link and

main idea.

Fifth, from this table, based on your own opinion, the option that is believed to be

the most correct and appropriate will be selected and proposed for a heavy machinery

rental company. As part of this selection, the reason for the selection will be briefly stated.

The development of the steps defined to carry out the systematic review is

described below:

The first step was developed, which was to search the UPN online catalog and

Google Scholar, in both, research on the topic was found, but those found or searched in

the UPN online catalog were rejected, since For this review it is important to have all the

information of the research referred to, and in the case of the searches carried out in the

catalog it only offers the summary of the research but the detail or completeness of the

research cannot be seen, so there is no way to evaluate these investigations to be able to

consider them for the proposal for the management of the supply chain of the heavy

machinery rental company. On the other hand, the research found in the search carried out

on Google Scholar provides the research in full, which widely allows us to review the

research and be able to reject it or consider it for the proposal, but the difficulty that has

been found is that the majority of research found exceed 5 years of publication, so if we

continue to consider research with a maximum of 5 years of having been published, this

would mean not being able to count on any research.

In the second step, as mentioned, only publications with a maximum of 5 years of

publication cannot be considered, since many of the literature found are older than 5 years

Martos López, Angelica P. 13

AND METHODOLOGIES OF THE MANAGEMENT OF THE

of publication, so all publications found that have been published have been considered.

reference to supply chain management.

Third step, it has been ignored due to the small amount of research carried out on

supply chain management.

Fourth step, of all the research found through Google Scholar, all of them have

been considered and placed in a table with the specified columns.

CHAPTER III. RESULTS

From the search carried out, it could be seen that both Scielo, Latindex, and

Redalyc did not display results for the search “techniques and methods of supply chain

management”, obtaining no results.

But when changing the search to “logistics”, the Scielo search engine does show results,
surpassing more than 1000 results.

The searches carried out in Google Scholar are the most complete, since it provides

us with complete research and in most cases downloadable.

Of all the researches consulted, it was considered not to exclude any of these

reviewed researches, which are mentioned in table 1, since all of the reviewed ones contain

something related to what we seek to investigate and it can be seen that each of them in a

different percentage contributes both to understanding the supply chain as well as its

management, and also applied to different contexts, all this allows it to be more beneficial

to consider all these qu and just consider a few.

CHAPTER IV. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS

It can be seen that there is a great variety of research on one or another part of the

supply chain. Among the research consulted, there are purchasing management, supplier

management, transportation management, supply chain management and inventory

management. .

It is enriching to see how different researchers have different contributions and

ways of seeing logistical reality. It is up to me to consider all these studies and define a

topic to investigate.

It can also be seen that certain researchers, due to the very close relationship that

logistics has with the supply chain, consider it as the same, and others highlight the

difference, because as is known, logistics is part of the supply chain.

Conclusions

From the review carried out and having made the weighting matrix, I can conclude

that the research topic to be addressed will be the supply chain.

Understanding that the supply chain is a very broad topic, as it covers everything

from supply to delivery of the good to the customer, I have decided to specifically address

the ordering process part, given that this part of the supply chain has a great impact on the

client, and it is important to be able to see that the process is carried out efficiently and

with high quality.
