The Eastern Cape Chess Association distances itself from the recent selection scandal surrounding Chess South Africa (CHESSA).
Reports have emerged that the selection policy was not followed, resulting in players being unfairly excluded from the national
team.
As a provincial chess association, we are committed to upholding the principles of fairness, transparency, and good governance. We
are deeply concerned that the selection process was not conducted in a manner that reflects these values.
We stand in solidarity with the players who have been affected by this scandal and demand answers to the questions that have been
raised. It is unacceptable that players who have dedicated their time and energy to the sport are being left in the dark.
We call on Chess South Africa and Players Commission to take immediate action to address this situation, provide clarity on the
selection process, and ensure that all players are treated fairly and with respect.
We will continue to monitor the situation and take appropriate action to protect the interests of our players. Regions and clubs
should take precautionary measures, parents and players must engage their clubs, clubs must escalate the matters to regions, and
we urge Regions to report such matters to the Province. In cases of emergency, we may entertain such queries so that Players may
not be deprived of opportunities they deserve due to time.
