Mahathir Mohamad's "Look East Policy" was an initiative implemented during his tenure
as Prime Minister of Malaysia from 1981 to 2003. The policy refers to both an emphasis
on economic trade with East Asian states i.e. Japan and Korea as well as an emulation
of East Asian values. Under status quo, Malaysia has adopted a foreign policy of
neutrality.
