GROUP RESEARCH CASE STUDY – FINANCIAL STATEMENT

ANALYSIS
Students will be required to produce one group research case study, which will be subject to formal assessment.
This case will be performed in collaborative groups to stimulate interaction and cooperative learning, group
communication and team building. The case will be evaluated on the basis of group performance. Students will
form into assigned groups of 6 students. Teams, once formed, cannot be changed without permission of the course
lecturer.
For this group research case study, each group will be assigned a listed multi-national company based on the Group
Number (in the list below), for which they must collect case information and then perform a detailed analysis of the
firm by using the skills learnt in this course and other courses.
The company for the research case study must be chosen by lecturer as the following table:

The group research case study will be worth 30% of the unit’s assessment in the form of a written paper.
The case must be submitted by the hardcopy handover and softcopy via email by 11:59pm on the date noticed on
LMS.
Students must keep a copy of the submitted work. Should submission problems occur, students should contact the
unit coordinator as soon as possible and send an electronic copy of the submission via email before the submission
cut-off time.
Penalty for late submissions will be 10% per day. No (late) case studies will be accepted beyond 7 days after the
due date/time. After this date, members of groups with no submission for the Group Research Case Study will
receive an FAIL grade for Mid-term result.
Submissions take the form of a business report, demonstrating the skills learnt in this course and other courses to
address interesting business questions, in a logical format. While the length of the report required will depend on
the individual case and its complexity, group submissions should not exceed 30 pages excluding appendices. Each
page must use Times New Roman 11 points Multiple line (1.2) spaced font for body text. Paper size is A4
with page margins being 2.54 cm top and bottom and 2 cm left and right. All sources of information will
need to be referenced following the APA referencing style.
These submissions will be assessed taking into account the following elements:
• identification of key issues
• use of analytical procedures
• use of available data
• detail and quality of analysis
• clear conclusions, and
• grammar and written expression quality.

The group research case study will focus on the below questions:
1. Analyze the external environment by PESTEL and 5 Forces model, evaluate how the company competes
(cost leadership or product differentiation) and what is the source of its competitive advantages?
2. Prepare a report that explains the financial performance, the company position and the cash flow
performance in 2023 for presentation to the Board of Directors including reference to the impact of its
strategy and of its industry to its financial ratios.
3. Compute the value of Altman’s Z-score for each year from 2021 – 2023. Discuss the most important
factors that signalled the likelihood of bankruptcy in 2022.
4. Estimate sales growth rate in the next five years and forecast the budgeted financial statements for the
period from 2024 to 2026.
 5. Use a residual income-based valuation model to estimate share price and contrast with market share price
at the year-end 2023.
