FACILITATOR CALA GUIDE

LEARNING AREA: BIOLOGY
LEVEL: O LEVEL
CALA TYPE: MODEL
TOPIC: CHEMICALS OF LIFE
SUB TOPIC: WATER
Competency and skills
 Problem solving
 Hands on
 Psychomotor
 Communication
 Critical thinking
 Decision making
 Drawing skills
 Model construction
Background

Learners face challenges in understanding the structure of a water molecule.to enhance understanding, learners should design a model of a
water molecule.
Objectives
 To identify properties of water
 Explain meaning of properties of water
 Relate properties to uses of water
 Draw the structure of a water molecule

LEARNER CALA GUIDE

The CALA has two separate parts A, and B.
You are required to construct a model of a water molecule. This will help you understand the concept. Use the locally available material.
LEARNER’S CALA GUIDE
PART A

1. Research on the properties of water. Explain the meaning and biological significance of each property. [10]
5 properties, mark for each property and meaning and one mark for biological significance
PART B
2. Use the locally available material only to construct the model of a water molecule. Attach the model in the space provided [10]
3. Draw two adjacent water molecules and show clearly the position of the hydrogen bond. [3]

4. Explain how the bond between the first and second molecule is formed. [2]
