SUPERMAN (2025)

THE SHOOTING

A new Superman set video has swooped online which shows the Man of
Tomorrow being apprehended by the reboot's villain and a closer look at that
surprise DCU cameo. We also have a new shot of Supes himself!

We'd thought the biggest reveal from Superman yesterday would be a first look
at David Corenswet as Clark Kent. However, as cameras continued rolling into
the afternoon, we caught a glimpse of Ultraman and The Engineer alongside
Creature Commandos and Peacemaker season 2's Rick Flag Sr.
Now, a set video has surfaced which shows Ultraman pinning the Man of Steel
to the ground, binding his hands, and then lifting him to his feet as The
Engineer, Flag Sr., and military watch on.

We then watch as Ultraman walks Superman down the street while Metropolis'
greatest superhero talks to Flag Sr. We'd imagine A.R.G.U.S. is somehow
involved and Ultraman's presence is bound to be a big talking point in the
coming months.

Rumour has it Lex Luthor creates a Superman clone using the hero's DNA but
this guy is even larger than the 6'4" Corenswet. How much do you want to bet
that, when the villain's mask is inevitably torn off, the monstrous visage of
Bizarro lies beneath?

You can watch this new Superman set video in the X post below.
According to Cleveland.com, the scene above saw Superman "smashed into
the ground during filming." You can see more photos of this exchange by
following the link to their site.

In other news, there's a shot of Corenswet's Man of Tomorrow floating around

The first photos from the set of Superman found their way online yesterday and

Studios and James Gunn's upcoming DCU reboot...

After spending the better part of a week transforming Cleveland into Metropolis,
DC Studios and James Gunn finally started shooting Superman in the city
yesterday.

As a result, we were treated to a series of thrilling reveals, including a new look

at David Corenswet suited up as Superman. Mister Terrific was also on hand,
as were characters like Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, and Perry White. Oh, and what
appears to be a spaceship, of course!
Many of the sets were taken down overnight and there's a chance this will be all
we see from Superman for a while. Even if another wave of photos are heading
our way this week, that first batch left us with a lot to discuss and we're delving
into the biggest reveals and spoilers in this feature.

You can check them out by clicking on the "Next"/"View List" buttons below...

5. Mister Terrific's Mysterious Injury

Edi Gathegi's Mister Terrific has been spotted in a shockingly comic-accurate

costume, a sign that DC Studios and Gunn will adhere to the source material
when bringing the DCU's heroes and villains to the screen.

Superman and Mister Terrific spent a fair bit of time on set together yesterday,
but upon closer inspection, we noticed that the latter's foot is bandaged and
bleeding. In fact, it looks like he's been shot through it! At the very least, this
may be an indication their conversation is taking place near the end of the
movie.

We have no context beyond that; however, it confirms the hero will see some
action alongside the Man of Tomorrow.
4. A Key Role For The Daily Planet Staff

While we were expecting Lois Lane to see some action either as an

investigative journalist alongside Clark Kent or when she meets Superman, it
seems the entire Daily Planet staff will do more than just hang out in the paper's
newsroom.

Lois, Jimmy Olsen, Perry White, Steve Lombard, and Ron Troupe were all
shown emerging from a ship we believe belongs to Mister Terrific.

Whether he saves them from an attack on The Daily Planet or they're forced to
go on the run, it's exciting to think they're all going to play bigger-than-expected
roles in Superman. There's also enough of them that we expect someone to
die...sorry, Steve!

3. Superman's Suit Looks MUCH Better Than Expected

When Gunn shared the photo above from Superman, it drew a mixed (if not
largely negative) response from DC fans. While the design itself received
praise, the presentation was flawed.

Now we've seen the suit on set, it's fair to say we should have given it the
benefit of the doubt. Not only is it much brighter than we expected, but it's very
comic-accurate right down to the trunks which - despite what the DCEU would
have you believe - look fantastic in live-action.

It's true that the costume still appears a little ill-fitting on Corenswet, though
we'd imagine that's something DC Studios plans to fix in post-production.
Honestly, this feels like classic Superman and, in that respect, how can you
fault it?
Something strange is happening in Metropolis. As well as Mister Terrific's T-
Sphere ship, a much larger craft has been spotted with a handful of
actors/extras decked out in what appear to be ancient robes.

Then, there are the people in black who some believe could be the Children of
Kaizen Gamorra (in cuffs are being apprehended by the military). The clone
army has ties to The Authority and, with rumours swirling that Lex Luthor
creatures a Superman clone, it's possible Gunn has found a new use for them
here.

Whether Superman will feature an alien threat remains to be seen, though that
mysterious orb and now the presence of a ship has left us convinced we're
going to see the Man of Tomorrow do battle with Mongul.
Superman And Lois Just Look Right Together

You'd think that casting Superman and Lois Lane would be as simple as finding
a really good actor and actress and throwing them on screen together.
However, we see now why Gunn went to such great lengths to cast these two.

Based on what we've seen of Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan standing side-
by-side as these iconic DC Comics characters, they really are the ideal fit to
bring them to life in the new DCU.

This is subjective, we know, but they just look right together and Gunn's
apparent nod to Superman: The Animated Series by having Lois dressed in
purple is definitely something we can appreciate. Now, we just need to hope
that Corenswet and Brosnahan have as much chemistry acting alongside each
other as the photos suggest.

SUMMARY
Corenswet's Superman suit draws comparisons to past live-action versions
through details like boots and the iconic red trunks.
The DCU Superman logo, reminiscent of the Kingdom Come symbol, marks a
notable departure from prior iterations in movies.
Corenswet's suit features unique elements like a cape that connects differently
and a high-collar design inspired by the New 52 Superman.

David Corenswet's outfit for the DCU's Superman has been revealed, bringing
to light the ways it is different, similar, and unique in comparison to comics and
movies past. Although the film has been in production since February 2024,
updates about James Gunn's DCU Superman movie have been somewhat rare
since the barrage of casting announcements that confirmed the film's main
characters. As the next upcoming DCU movie after 2024's Joker: Folié a Deux,
updates about Superman have been highly anticipated.

This anticipation caused the first look at Superman's cast of characters to

explode onto the internet as audiences compared actors David Corenswet,
Rachel Brosnahan, and Edi Gathegi to their comic book counterparts. These
Superman set photos revealed new costumes, character dynamics, and the first
look at the DCU's Metropolis, with Superman's suit being the most dissected.
Combined with the official look at Superman posted by James Gunn on May 6,
2024, the set photos from the DCU production offer the chance to break down
Corenswet's look, how it compares to past live-action iterations, and how it
connects to DC Comics.

David Corenswet Shows Off His Impressive Superman Physique After DCU
Costume Reveal

Superman's Boots
How Does Corenswet's Superman Footwear Compare To Other Iterations?
David Corenswet pulling on his boots as Superman in the DCU

As far as costume elements go, it is admittedly more difficult to compare boots

to other, more notable aspects. That said, some details can be pulled from the
various set photos, with more available thanks to the image posted by Gunn
(via Instagram). In the latter, Corenswet's Superman can be seen pulling his
boots on before going to work as the Man of Steel. The boots are fairly clunky,
looking more like footwear than usual superhero spandex offers, such as
Spider-Man. The red coloring of the boots contrasts with the blue legwear and
has lined patterns running down either side.

As alluded to, it is difficult to compare boots to other costumes be it live-action

or comics, as footwear is hardly something that requires regular changes.
However, the boots draw comparisons to Christopher Reeve's Superman
costume from the 1978 movie. They have the same V-shaped delve at the top,
an element shared by other live-action Superman actors including Brandon
Routh, Henry Cavill, and Tyler Hoechlin. This links to most iterations of
Superman in DC Comics, with the boots not changing too much over the
decades.

Superman's Trunks & Belt

The Trunks Return To Live-Action Superman
What the initial Instagram image did not make abundantly clear is whether the
DCU's Superman would sport the iconic red trunks over his costume. Thanks to
the newest set photos, the red trunks can be seen over the suit in classic DC
Comics fashion. Interestingly, the trunks are longer than other iterations that
wore them, namely Reeve and Routh. This extra length could be seen as
making up for the lack of red trunks in more recent versions of Superman, with
Cavill and Hoechlin forgoing the outfit detail.

For the first time in both mediums in a while, Superman will sport an iconic part
of his original costumes...

The red trunks being part of Superman links to the comics, with most versions
across the decades also wearing them. However, much like how Corenswet's
Superman is bringing the trunks back for the first time in years in live-action, the
same can be said for the comics. Most classic versions of Clark wore red
trunks, though the New 52 DC rebrand saw the DC comic Superman costume
change this. For the first time in both mediums in a while, Superman will sport
an iconic part of his original costumes.

With the reintegration of the red trunks comes a reversion to a classic

Superman belt. Due to the absence of trunks with Cavill and Hoechlin's versions
of the Son of Krypton, their belts were simple red bands going around their
waist. Before this, with Routh, Reeve, and the more classic comic book designs,
Superman's belt is yellow to offset against the blue above it and red trunks
below it. Corenswet's Superman has this belt also, though it is unclear whether
it is emblazoned with the Superman logo as it was with Routh and Reeve.

Superman's Logo
The DCU Superman Logo Is Rare In Live-Action

The easiest aspect to compare between iterations of Superman is the iconic

logo. Corenswet's new DCU logo has been visible in multiple reveals about the
movie, marking a notable difference from prior versions. For only the second
time in live-action and the first in a movie, Superman's logo will be reminiscent
of the Kingdom Come symbol from DC Comics. Kingdom Come Superman was
introduced in the 90s and had a distinct logo that less emphasizes the "S"
shape of the symbol, something Corenswet shares with Routh's second version
of Superman in the Arrowverse's Crisis on Infinite Earths.

Arrowverse Crisis On Infinite Earths Superman

Six different actors have played Superman in the Arrowverse, from short
cameos to alternate Earths to leading the upcoming Superman and Lois spinoff.
Aside from these two versions, no other Superman has had the Kingdom Come
symbol. Reeve and Routh from Superman and Superman Returns respectively
had very similar logos, sporting the classic "S." Cavill's appearance beginning
with Man of Steel was slightly more modernized, but the S-shape was still
clearly visible. The same can be said for Hoechlin, meaning Corenswet's
Superman is breaking new ground for movies, linking to only one comic version
of the character.

Superman's Cape
The DCU Superman's Cape Is Both Different & Similar To Past Versions

Grant Morrison's All-Star Superman superman looks back in his cape with a
badge

Concerning differences from prior iterations, Corenswet's cape in Superman is

different from every other live-action version in one specific way. This detail
surrounds how the cape connects to the rest of the suit. All other live-action
versions have a cape that fastens normally, to either side of the neck.
Corenswet's cape, though, goes further over the top of his shoulders and
connects beneath the collar bones, giving the effect of the cape feeding into the
suit material.
The style of cape fastenings links to the more alien look of Superman's origins
than past iterations.

This is the main way the cape is different and links to the suit that inspired
Corenswet's from DC Comics, the New 52 suit. The latter has the same cape-
fastening details as the former which itself was a big difference from past comic
versions. One way the cape is different from every other live-action version
barring Reeve's is that it contains the yellow Superman symbol on the back, a
detail not found in the DCEU, Routh's movie, or Hoechlin's series, Superman &
Lois.

Superman's Collar
The Collar Also Links To The New 52 Superman

A split image of Davis Corenswet and art of Superman from DC's New 52
continuity-1Custom Image by Quinn Levandoski

With the New 52-style cape of Corenswet's Superman costume comes the New
52-style collar. With the cape attaching differently to both suits, they have a high
collar, which is a massive difference from other live-action Superman outfits.
Most other Superman collars are much lower wrapping around the neck at the
same height. With Corenswet's suit, his collar rises higher, almost halfway up
his neck, solidifying its similarities to the New 52 Superman of DC Comics.

David Corenswet’s Superman Costume Breaks 1 Major 46-Year Tradition
The first look at David Corenswet’s Superman suit has been revealed, with
attention placed on one element that breaks nearly 5 decades of tradition.

Superman's Overall Suit Texture

How Does The DCU Superman Suit Compare As A Whole?

The final element of Corenswet's suit worth pointing out is its overall texture.
The suit has been somewhat criticized for being "MCU-ified" with needless lines
separating aspects of the suit. These lines are found on both the top and bottom
half of the DCU Superman costume, though are not too noticeable and are all
the same color. These lines were not found on other suits, though Corenswet's
shares similarities to Cavill's and Hoechlin's in its overall texture.

The texture is more alien, lacking the smoother, spandex-like texture of Reeve's
and Routh's. This makes the most recent three iterations of Superman feel
more like they are from Krypton, aided by the ribbed textures. This marks the
last major element worth pointing out concerning Corenswet's DCU suit for
Superman, proving it to be similar, different, and fresh in comparison to other
iterations, all at the same time.
‘Superman’ movie filming underway in Cleveland
BY CASSIDY WILSON OHIO
JUN. 24, 2024
CLEVELAND — Cleveland is looking a whole lot more Hollywood as the actors
hit the streets of what’s becoming “Metropolis” for the new Superman movie
shooting downtown.

"Superman' filming has begun in downtown Cleveland

Streets are blocked off to film the movie

People have been gathering around trying to see the actors and watch the film
production
Superior Avenue has completely turned into Concord Street in Metropolis,
where Superman and Lois Lane work at The Daily Planet.

“Superman was born here, and it’s only right that it should be filmed here in
Cleveland,” said Lisa Conner, a Cleveland resident.

Hundreds of people were lining the streets, trying to spot actor David Corenswet
as the Man of Steel. The security crews have parts of the street blocked off, but
that hasn’t stopped people from peering in to try and see the action.

“Any movie production that they do down here, doesn’t matter if it’s an alien
movie, doesn’t matter what it is, I’m going down here to see it,” said Jullian
Mitchell, a Cleveland resident.

Clevelanders said the downtown buildings make it a popular city for some
movie magic.

“It’s a great thing for the city with the whole history of our movies with the
Avengers, Fast and Furious, I think that it’s a great opportunity and this is great
for the whole city just to see and watch how everything’s being brought up until
the movies actually hit, and they we can say that we’ve actually seen that
scene, that part of the movie,” Mitchell said.

And residents said they don’t think movie production will slow down anytime
soon in their city.

“Actually it’s becoming kind of normal — a lot of films are coming here to film.
We’ve got some beautiful buildings here that make great backdrops for it,”
Conner said.

“Superman” crews are also shooting scenes at Mentor Headlands Beach State
Park, where what looks like military barracks are set up for the set.

The creators of superman, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, grew up in the
Glenville neighborhood of Cleveland, and there’s a nonprofit to honor their work.
The Siegel & Shuster Society is working to raise money to put up an 18-foot
statute of superman. The goal is to preserve the creators’ legacy for future
generations.

The City of Cleveland said road closures will be in effect for the safety of the
film crew and the public.

Detour signs will be posted to safely guide drivers to alternate routes. Some
closures will be extended closures for more than a few hours or longer.

Following our first look at David Corenswet suited-up as the Man of Steel and
Edi Gathegi in costume as Mr. Terrific early today, some more photos from the
set of James Gunn's Superman have been shared online.

While these shots aren't quite as revealing, they do give us an intriguing insight
into the sequences being filmed on the Cleveland streets that are doubling for
Metropolis.

The photos reveal a couple of new characters, one of whom appears to be

played by actress and producer Paige Mobley (Instant Dream Home, America's
Next Top Model). There's speculation that she's been cast as a TV presenter
covering the situation in Metropolis.

As for what exactly is going on in the iconic DC Comics location, another photo
spotlights a group of black-clad individuals with their hands cuffed behind their
backs. Did they come from one of the alien crafts (one belongs to Mr. Terrific,
but there are believed to be others), or is this some sort of prisoner exchange
which requires Superman's presence?

Finally, a set video may give us our first glimpse of Rachel Brosnahan as Lois
Lane. It's difficult to be certain, but the woman in purple does certainly look
quite a bit like the Marvellous Mrs. Maisel star.

Check out the photos at the links below.

It's been an exciting day for DC fans as we've finally seen Superman star David
Corenswet suited up as the DCU's Man of Tomorrow.

A great deal of work has been put into transforming Cleveland into Metropolis
and we'd imagine the plan is to shoot there for most of this week. As a result,
we can surely look forward to many more set photos in the days ahead (and
perhaps even later today)
.

There's already speculation that Rachel Brosnahan's Lois Lane is present and it
appears Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor will be getting in on the action as well.

While he doesn't appear to be in costume (at least not yet), here's your first look
at the actor arriving on the set of Superman:

We've been unable to decipher what's happening in the scenes being filmed (it
looks like a large spaceship lands, prompting Superman and Mister Terrific to
team up) but Lex being there suggests he'll have a role to play in the chaos
that's hit Metropolis.

There's also a rather lovely shot of the Man of Steel and his fellow superhero
floating around on social media which could quite easily be an official still from
Superman. For a closer look at the suit, click here.

While not quite as exciting as the other photos we've seen today, it's also been
confirmed that The Daily Planet's iconic globe - spotted above the iconic
newspaper's entrance - lights up.

We'd imagine the building itself will also be topped with a much larger version,
though it's likely going to be added when visual effects are used to create the
Metropolis skyline.
There are also some snaps doing the rounds which confirm the city's streets will
pay homage to comic book writers Grant Morrison, Mark Waid, and Jeph Loeb.

Over the past week or so, Cleveland has been transformed into the DCU's
Metropolis for Superman. Now, DC Studios boss and filmmaker James Gunn
has arrived on set to begin shooting.

David Corenswet has been spotted as the new Man of Steel, though he's
mostly covered up in a cloak (meaning we get to see Superman's collar and
little else). He certainly looks the part of the hero, anyway, and should be
revealed in all his red and blue glory soon enough.

The military and police have also arrived in Metropolis, seemingly in response
to whatever will emerge from that massive spaceship that's landed near The
Daily Planet.

People dressed all in black have been spotted with their hands zip-tied behind
their backs, while we can see that there's a fair bit of destruction on the city
streets. We're assuming they're hostages and, on closer inspection, there are a
couple of extras decked out in old, faded robes. Who do they serve? We're still
betting on Mongul.

How much else will be revealed in Superman set photos and videos remains to
be seen. We're hearing that security is very tight, meaning the paparazzi could
be blocked from snapping anything too revealing or spoilery.

We'd be shocked if Corenswet isn't spotted in full costume before the day is
over, though.

New photos from the Cleveland/Metropolis set of Superman have seemingly
revealed who will pilot the mysterious ship that arrives just outside The Daily
Planet. Find more details on that right here...

Yesterday, we shared more photos from the set of Superman showing a ship of
some sort with stairs descending from a doorway. With the idea clearly being to
create all but those steps with VFX, we were left in the dark when it came to
who might be piloting the thing.

Well, another round of set photos showing the interior prior to its construction
have seemingly confirmed that it belongs to Mister Terrific!
Not only does this explain the ship's relatively small size, but it means the
Justice League International member will likely arrive at The Daily Planet to help
fend off whoever might be attacking Metropolis. We'd bet on him being joined by
the movie's other heroes as well.
Cameras are expected to begin rolling tomorrow, meaning we should get to see
them in action...unless DC Studios manages to completely close off the street
and surrounding buildings.

Michael Holt debuted in Spectre #54 in 1997 and was created by John
Ostrander and Tom Mandrake. He's a technological genius with 14 PhDs and is
an Olympic-level athlete. As Mister Terrific, he uses T-Spheres, advanced
gadgets that provide holographic projection, hacking, and offensive capabilities.

And yes, he's often arrived on the battlefield in his own ship which you'll see in
the X posts below...
A closer look at David Corenswet's Superman has also been revealed and,
upon closer inspection, it seems the Man of Steel used his Freeze Breath to
help save the day.

Superman tells the story of Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian

heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is
the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human
kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.
David Corenswet is playing the Man of Steel, while Rachel Brosnahan has been
tapped to star as Lois Lane.

The cast includes Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific,
Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, and Gabriela
de Faría as The Engineer.

The transformation of Cleveland into Metropolis for Superman appears to be
complete, with an entire street now featuring stores and bars boasting various
nods to the wider DC Universe.

We've also caught sight of newspapers with David Coresnwet's Man of Steel
doing his thing as the city's protector. In recent days, debris has slowly been
added to the street and we're hearing that cameras will start rolling on Monday
(meaning we're likely to get a first look at Superman and the cast in action next
week).

Surprisingly, we may even get to see the reboot's big bad.

While Nicholas Hoult will play Lex Luthor, it's still unclear whether he'll don a
Power Suit to go toe-to-toe with the Kryptonian. The first teaser image for the
movie featured a bizarre alien globe in the background many fans believe could
be Warworld, the ship which belongs to Mongul.

Now, a large set of stairs has been erected on the street, with the idea clearly
being to show someone or something emerging from a ship which will be added
with VFX down the line. That's evident from the fact the steps are metal and a
fan mentioning that there are lights within what looks to be a doorway.

The question is, why is this ship landing outside The Daily Planet and what is
that going to mean for Clark Kent/Kal-El's secret identity?

DC Studios and James Gunn have been so careful up until this point that we'd
imagine they'll go to great lengths to stop any leaks so only time will tell how
much we eventually see. However, the presence of an alien ship does seem to
suggest rumours about Ultraman were false.
Take a closer look at the latest Superman set photos below and let us know
what you think in the comments section.

June 22, 2024 Fans are walking through the streets of downtown Cleveland
getting great photos from the sets being constructed for the new “Superman”
movie.

With virtually unrestricted access, photos are emerging of more storefront signs
and newspaper stands, in which we can see action photos of David Corenswet
as Superman.

The Daily Planent front pages headline reads “Superman Stops MTA Rail from
Running Off the Tracks” (with an action photo of Superman stopping the train)
written by Clark Kent, while the other from the Metropolis Eagle reads
“Superman Saves 20 After Downtown Building Collapse” with a subheading
reading, “No fatalities in what could have been a tragic outcome” written by Erin
Morrell featuring a photo of Superman standing with hands on hips. A side
Analysis column reads, “Questions remain as to cause of incident”.

Work to transform Cleveland into Metropolis is ongoing, and while we've already
caught sight of the DCU's Daily Planet, the newspaper's iconic globe has now
arrived on Superman's set!

It's been shown on banners, of course, but the physical prop...well, it's an
absolute beauty.
The globe will seemingly hang above the entrance to the Planet's headquarters;
Clark Kent will work there in the movie, with Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, Cat Grant,
Steve Lombard, Ron Troupe, and Editor-in-Chief Perry White joining him.
.
We'd say it's likely some or even all of those characters will soon make their
presence felt, though it's possible we won't get to see them if the set is heavily
protected. So far, we've only caught a glimpse of Gabriela de Faría as The
Engineer and that was several months ago; with that in mind, it may be wise not
to get your hopes up for any big reveals.

Interestingly, fake debris is also being delivered to Superman's set, suggesting

an action scene could take place at the iconic Metropolis location. If so, we may
well see the Man of Steel emerge from those spinning doors to do his thing and
save the day.

After the divisive first shot of David Corenswet, some shots of him suited up
would go a long way in easing the minds of sceptical fans.

Check out these newly revealed Superman set photos below.

The latest photo from the set of DC Studios' Superman features what appears
to be a nod to Maxwell Lord, a character we know will be played by Guardians
of the Galaxy star Sean Gunn in the new DCU...

While we wait with bated breath to see whether the paparazzi can snap some
photos of the Superman cast on the reboot's Cleveland/Metropolis set, another
interesting DC Comics Easter Egg has just been spotted.

In the window of Quitely & Sons Electronics (which itself is a nod to All-Star
Superman artist Frank Quitely), we see that they stock "Lordtech."

This has to be a nod to the company run by Maxwell Lord in the DCU; it
appears he'll specialise in tech, and it wouldn't be overly surprising for Lordtech
computers and cell phones to be featured in place of a real-life brand like Apple.

Of course, there's likely to be more to Maxwell than that as he'll be portrayed by

The Suicide Squad star Sean Gunn. While he's already lending his voice to G.I.
Robot and Weasel in Creature Commandos, Gunn's take on the Wonder
Woman 1984 villain (where he was played by Pedro Pascal) is expected to be
more in line with Lord's comic book counterpart.

"The other one you mentioned — who I'm not sure I can still technically mention
publicly, even though obviously the word is out — all I can say is [Maxwell Lord]
is a little bit more grounded in being," Gunn previously teased. "A lot more
grounded, obviously, as a human being. And so that's a character that I'll tackle
in a more traditional way."

On the page, Maxwell Lord was initially depicted as a shrewd entrepreneur and
an ally to superheroes before later becoming a major antagonist, using mind
control and manipulation to further his goals. He has clashed with various
heroes, including the Justice League and in some storylines, his actions have
had significant repercussions on the wider DC Universe.
The character may be best known for his death; after he became too dangerous
to the world, Wonder Woman snapped Lord's neck. His role in the DCU remains
a mystery to us for the most part, though we expect him to be heavily involved
with the Justice League International team.

James Gunn has shared a new behind-the-scenes photo of a few friends
checking out some Superman footage on a monitor, and we also have a first

Before we go any further: No, Chris Pratt is not in Superman (as far as we
know, anyway), but the Guardians of the Galaxy star did pay a visit to set along
with some more of director James Gunn's pals for a little preview of some
footage.
Gunn shared a behind-the-scenes photo to Instagram of himself, Pratt and
several other people watching a monitor, presumably as a scene from the
upcoming DCU reboot was being filmed.

Shooting is currently underway in Cleveland, Ohio, and the city streets have
been transformed into Metropolis. We recently caught a glimpse of one of the
storefronts displaying the Daily Planet logo, and we now have a first look at The
Leader Building doubling as the iconic newspaper's base of operations itself.
The photos spotlight the main entrance and lobby. We're not sure if the Planet's
signature globe will sit atop the skyscraper, but that's something that would
likely be added in post, anyway.
Check out the photos at the links below.
So far, the only major reveal that has come from set photos is a glimpse of
María Gabriela de Faría in-costume as The Engineer, but we did get a first
official look at David Corenswet in his Super-suit a few weeks ago.

The image, which showed an already battle-tested Man of Steel putting his
boots on to go deal with another potentially catastrophic threat to Metropolis,
was effective enough, but it's probably fair to say that the majority of fans
weren't overly impressed.

Superman will also star Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion as Green
Lantern Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Anthony Carrigan as
Metamorpho.

Sara Sampaio is on board as Lex's assistant/lover Eve Teschmacher, Pruitt

Taylor Vince and Neva Howell will play "Ma" and "Pa" Kent, and Wendell Pierce
will play Perry White. Milly Alcock's Supergirl is also rumored to make her debut
ahead of her own Woman of Tomorrow movie, but that's yet to be confirmed.

We're still not sure exactly how these other superheroes will factor into the
story, but Gunn has previously revealed that Superman's dual-life as both Clark
Kent and the Man of Steel will be explored in the film, suggesting that these
characters will be his "super friends." Whether they'll be part of an actual team
or not remains to be seen.

“Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN

today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned
– Superman’s birthday,” Gunn captioned the first official photo earlier this year.
“When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film ‘Superman: Legacy.’
By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN,” he
added. “Making our way to you July 2025.”
Another photo from the set of Superman has found its way online and it reveals

Work continues on James Gunn's Superman reboot and a new photo from the
movie's set has caught the interest of fans. As you'll see below, the
"LuthorCorp" logo is emblazoned on militaristic vehicles, suggesting there will
be a link between them and Lex in this movie.

We've already seen what appeared to be a makeshift military base, and the
comics have also occasionally gone down this route. The question now is, does
Lex work alongside the military or is this LuthorCorp more weapons-based than
what we may be used to seeing on the page?

Either way, it seems likely that the villain is going to be targeting Superman with
all manner of weapons...including a certain power suit if we're really lucky (it's
about time that join Lex on the big screen).

Rumour has it he creates a Superman clone - likely a new take on

Bizarro/Ultraman - and if that's true, Lex more than likely will still be portrayed
as a "mad scientist."

"I have been working out," Hoult previously said of his preparation for the role.
"There’s that bit in 'All-Star Superman' where he talks about his muscles being
real and hard work and all that. I kind of took that as a little bit of a fuel for the
fire."

Superman director James Gunn may not have shared a new look at David
Corenswet as the Man of Steel for Superman Day, but thanks to a new set
video, we do have what might well be our first glimpse of another DC Comics
hero that's set to make his big-screen debut in the upcoming DCU reboot.

After initially setting up at the Headlands Beach State Park in Cleveland, Ohio
last week, production has moved to Mentor, Ohio, and this video appears to
show a stunt sequence either being filmed or rehearsed.

While most of the footage is taken from a fair distance above the set, the
camera does zoom in towards the end, giving us a quick look at who is believed
to be X-Men: First Class actor Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific.

It's impossible to tell for certain, but the guy in the red shirt is a tall, well-built
Black man who launches himself into the air at one point, so there's a decent
chance this is indeed Curtis Holt using his T-Spheres to take down some bad
guys.

received $11 million in Ohio Motion Picture Tax Credits from the State of Ohio.

Sets are being constructed in Public Square, with production expected to film in
Cleveland through July 16.

We got a first look at the new LexCorp logo earlier today, and as filming
continues on James Gunn's DCU Superman reboot in Cleveland, Ohio, these
videos from the Headlands Beach State Park set give us a glimpse of some
stunt rehearsals.

The footage was shot from quite a distance away, but we can make out several
figures practising combat moves in the sand.
Are these stunt performers or some of the actors from the movie? It's very
difficult to tell, but there's been speculation that the guy in the black shirt moving
into shot from the left might be David Corenswet (he certainly has the right
build).
At the very least, this confirms that we're going to see some super-powered
individuals engage in a hand-to-hand scrap.

James Gunn is filling out the Daily Planet newsroom.

Mikaela Hoover and Christopher McDonald have joined the cast of Gunn’s
Superman, the inaugural movie of DC Studios.

The feature is currently in production in Atlanta with David Corenswet starring

as Clark Kent/Superman, and Rachel Brosnahan playing Daily Planet reporter
Lois Lane.

The duo will have company on the news desk. Earlier this week, The Hollywood
Reporter reported that Saturday Night Live alum Beck Bennett had joined the
production to play Steve Lombard, a blowhard and self-serving reporter who in
the comics serves as a foil to boy scout reporter Kent.

Sources tell THR that Hoover is playing Cat Grant, who in the comics was a
gossip columnist who had her eyes set on Kent. The character, created by Marv
Wolfman and Jerry Ordway, has appeared in several TV shows, most notably in
CW’s Supergirl in which she was played by Calista Flockhart.
McDonald is playing Ron Troupe, one of the best reporters in the newsroom. In
the comics, the character, created by Ordway and Tom Grummett, ended up
having a son with Lois Lane’s sister, Lucy Lane.

Superman, which has a release date of July 11, 2025, also has Nicholas Hoult
as villain Lex Luthor.

The movie will feature classic members of Superman’s supporting characters,

such as Jimmy Olsen (Skyler Gisondo), Eve Teschmacher (Sara Sampaio) and
Daily Planet editor in chief Perry White (Wendell Pierce).

It will also feature a variety of DC heroes. Edi Gathegi is playing Mister Terrific,
Anthony Carrigan is Metamorpho, Isabela Merced is Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion is
Guy Gardner and María Gabriela de Faría is playing The Engineer.

Hoover has appeared in in bit parts in several Gunn productions, Guardians of

the Galaxy, The Suicide Squad and The Belko Experiment, among them. She
also appeared in Netflix romcom Love Hard. She is repped by Buchwald, Luber
Roklin and Felker Toczek.

McDonald is a newcomer to the screen.

June 6, 2024
On May 6, DC Studios released the first official look at David Corenswet in the
new Superman costume for the upcoming 2025 movie. Now, exactly one month
later, Superman Homepage contributor Michael Moreno gives his own analysis
of that photo.

He Looks Super, man!

An analysis on the first official look of David Corenswet in the Superman suit.

By Michael Moreno
Throughout the decades Superman has been played by various actors – actors
who have played Superman on the big and small screen – actors such as
Christopher Reeve, Brandon Routh, Henry Cavill, Dean Cain, Kirk Alyn, George
Reeves and Tyler Hoechlin. These actors have all worn a variation of
Superman’s iconic and heroic super suit, a super suit that has inspired
generations of Superman fans, and will continue to inspire for a new generation
of Superman fans. Next year there will be a new actor to don the cape and
tights in director James Gunn’s “Superman” film, and this actor’s name is David
Corenswet. In this article, I will analyze and critique the new Superman’s super
suit.

For director James Gunn’s interpretation of Superman’s suit, there appears to

be many influences from the Man of Steel’s history, starting with the most
noticeable part of the suit, i.e., the iconic Superman logo. Taking influence and
inspiration from legendary comic book artist Alex Ross’s Superman insignia
from the “Kingdom Come” story, Superman’s crest is stylized in a red diamond
shape but with a yellow outline. Inside of the crest, there is a single red stripe
that is very reminiscent of Alex’s work. While not an obvious “S” shape, the red
stripe blends into the red boarders of the diamond, giving an S-like impression.
However, unlike Alex’s insignia, which has a black background surrounding the
red stripe, a yellow one is used instead, giving off a hopeful and bright feel to
the logo. However, in the first official look at the full suit, the insignia appears to
have had some dust and dirt added on, giving the impression that Superman
has been in some kind of a fight and received a bit of battle damage.
Kingdom Come
Moving on from the “S” logo and onto the suit itself, the material looks like it
could be made of a stiffer material rather than a flexible one. Evidence of this is
shown at the wrists of the suit – very reminiscent of a jacket. There also
appears to be a “New 52” influence with a collar. While not the first collared look
for a live action Superman (the first being Tyler Hoechlin’s black super suit),
David’s Superman is the first one to wear this style on the big screen. There
looks to be a lined pattern on the shoulders and arms, a pattern that resembles
the Superman’s New 52 suit. The suit wrinkles at the shoulders, something that
has received wide criticism among Superman fans. The wrinkling is most likely
due to the fact that the actor is bending over to put on his boot.
Tyler Hoechlin
Speaking about the boots, the new style has a “space age” appearance, rather
than the traditional standard style, although the boots do retain the traditional
bright red color. There is also a pattern to them, a 3D pattern that pops out, plus
shin guard protection that reminds me of Tyler Hoechlin’s first pair of
Superman’s boots.

As David is sitting, we see a hint of what most likely is the red trunks. The
trunks have not been seen on the big screen since Bryan Singer’s and Brandon
Routh’s interpretation of Superman in the 2006 film “Superman Returns”, and
have since been forgone in favor of Zack Snyder’s and Henry Cavill’s version of
Superman in all of Snyder’s Superman films “Man of Steel”, “Batman v
Superman: Dawn of Justice”, and in both versions of the “Justice League” film,
one of them known as “the Snyder cut”. With the trunks, there is a hint of a
yellow belt, but the shape of the belt buckle is unclear.

Moving up to the red cape, we see that it’s attached to the suit rather than being
tucked under the collar. Because David is sitting down, the cape is touching the
floor. While this doesn’t give an exact impression on how long it is, it is very
likely that the cape is a long one due to how much of it is touching the ground.
The material looks to be cloth, rather than leather or something CGI. It’s
possibly made out of a material of the type that a blanket would be made out of.
If this is correct, then James Gunn would have incorporated the lore of
Superman’s cape having been made from the blanket that he was wrapped in
as a baby, when his adoptive parents found him in his space craft.

Last but certainly not least, I look at the actor (David Corenswet) who is now the
new torch bearer of Superman’s legacy (yes that is a nod to the original title of
the movie prior to James changing it to “Superman”). Based on the image, I can
tell that David has worked out for the role. His chest and arms are muscular,
and he is sporting an S-curl on his forehead. While some have said that David
Corenswet looks like Henry Cavill, I have to be honest. I just don’t see the
resemblance. He looks like Superman. It’s the same with every Superman
actor. They don’t look like other Superman actors (with the exception of
Brandon Routh, who has an almost uncanny resemblance to Christopher
Reeve), but they all look like Superman. So while, for now, we may not know
how David’s acting will be like for the role, we know at least that he looks like
Superman.

While there have been some criticisms on the first official look at James Gunn’s
and David Corenswet’s Superman, I for one am grateful for this first glimpse at
the future for Superman. After almost a year of speculation about how the new
Superman will look, and after months of asking James Gunn for the first image
of his Superman, I say “Thank you James”.

“Superman” will premiere on July 11, 2025 in movie theaters.

Following months of speculation about Steve Lombard making an appearance

in James Gunn's Superman, a new behind-the-scenes photo may reveal who
will play Clark Kent's colleague at The Daily Planet...
By JoshWilding –

There's been chatter online for a while that James Gunn's Superman might
include Steve Lombard. While it's still not confirmed, a new behind-the-scenes
photo of the movie's cast has sent speculation into overdrive.

As you'll see below, Saturday Night Live alum Beck Bennett was spotted
alongside the cast and crew, leaving many fans convinced he's playing the
Daily Planet's cocky sports columnist.

He may have just been visiting friends, of course, but the facial hair does feel
like a dead giveaway!

In the comics, Lombard - created by Cary Bates and Curt Swan in 1973's
Superman #264 - is a sports reporter and later sports anchor for the Daily
Planet, the same newspaper where Clark Kent and Lois Lane work.

Known for his brash and often arrogant personality, Steve is depicted as a
former professional football player who brings his jock mentality to the
newsroom. He is notorious for playing practical jokes on his colleagues,
especially Clark, whom he perceives as a mild-mannered and unassuming
reporter.

As for Bennett, the comedian was an SNL cast member between 2013 and
2021 and has appeared in the likes of Zoolander 2, The Angry Birds Movie, and
Bill & Ted Face the Music. If he is in Superman, we'd bet on it being a minor
role.

Stay tuned for updates.

The movie's supporting cast includes Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi
as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as
Metamorpho, Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Sara Sampaio as Eve
Teschmacher, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen,
Pruitt Taylor Vince as Pa Kent, Neva Howell as Ma Kent, and Nicholas Hoult as
Lex Luthor.
Milly Alcock is also expected to make a cameo appearance as Supergirl before
taking flight in her own movie, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

Superman is currently set to be released in theaters on July 11, 2025.

Jack Quaid's costumed Clark Kent about to fly into battle in My Adventures with
Superman.
The premiere of My Adventures with Superman and the influx of news
concerning the upcoming Superman movie were just two of the reasons 2023
was a great year to be a fan of the Man of Steel. Cut to now, My Adventures
with Superman Season 2 is now airing on the 2024 TV schedule, and James
Gunn recently shared that Superman is a little over halfway through shooting. It
will be a while until the public gets to see footage from this upcoming DC movie.
In the meantime, cast and crew members from the Adult Swim series told us
what they’re looking forward to most from Gunn’s reboot that’s one of the first
projects set in the DC Universe shared continuity.

Creators Brendan Clogher, Josie Campbell And Jake Wyatt

Let’s kick off with the people who created My Adventures with Superman and
serve as its showrunners: Brendan Clogher, Josie Campbell and Jake Wyatt. At
the end of our conversation tied to My Adventures with Superman Season 2’s
release, which included them talking about Lex Luthor’s alliance with Amanda
Waller, Supergirl’s forthcoming arrival and that big Jor-El twist in “More Things
in Heaven and Earth,” I asked them what they were hoping to see from James
Gunn’s Superman movie. After Wyatt noted that none of the prior interviewers
had posed that question to them during the junket that day, Clogher responded:

Clark Kent at the Daily Planet. That's the one thing I want that I've missed the
most.

While Henry Cavill’s Clark Kent did get hired by The Daily Planet at the end of
Man of Steel, and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice showed him working
as a reporter, that aspect of his life didn’t get a ton of attention. That’s not to say
Superman will rectify that for the Clark David Corenswet is playing, but Clogher
is hopeful that’ll be the case. Next, Campbell mentioned her satisfaction with
Rachel Brosnahan being cast as Lois Lane:

I think Rachel Brosnahan is such good casting as Lois. My fervent hope is that
Lois gets almost as big as spotlight or as big as spotlight is Clark/Superman.
She's fantastic.
She’s not alone in feeling that way, as our own Riley Utley declared Brosnahan
playing Lois to be perfect casting when the news initially came out. Then Wyatt
mentioned both being interested to see how these versions of Clark and Lois do
paired together, saying:

I've been excited to see her in the promo being played as, like, the co-lead.
Yeah, I'm really excited for those two. I’m excited for Clark Kent and Lois Lane.
People got mad at us because they're like one of America's great screen
romances. They're one of pop culture's great couples. So that is what I'm most
excited for. She's so good. The Lois casting is unbelievable. David Corenswet,
so handsome. I'm excited to see them love each other and maybe get torn apart
dramatically.

Now that we’ve covered the creative minds behind My Adventures with
Superman, let’s shift over to two of the show’s leading trio of actors.

Actors Ishmel Sahid And Alice Lee

In addition to Jack Quaid voicing Clark Kent/Kal-El, My Adventures with
Superman stars Alice Lee as Lois Lane and Ishmel Sahid as Jimmy Olsen, with
both characters frequently tagging along on their Kryptonian buddy’s superhero
exploits, as the title of the show lays out. Along with Brosnahan coming aboard
the Superman movie, Skylar Gisondo has has been cast as that project’s Jimmy
Olsen. When I asked Sahid and Lee (who also commented on their characters’
“dynamic” with Lex Luthor) what they’re hoping to see from these live-action
cinematic takes on the characters they voice in the animated television space,
the former started off by saying:

I'm open to anything. Obviously throughout the years, we have seen different
iterations of Superman, Jimmy, Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, all these fun characters
and villains. So I'm just curious and open to seeing how these actors portray
these characters. Because everybody throughout the years has brought
themselves to all these DC characters. Yeah, I’m just excited for Gunn’s vision
for this Superman.

Hey, there’s nothing wrong with just waiting to see how James Gunn does with
one of pop culture’s most famous superheroes. Lee echoed Sahid’s thoughts,
as well as joined in on giving Rachel Brosnahan props:

Alice: Yeah, me too. I'm just excited to see what iteration, what vibe it's gonna
be. And Rachel Brosnahan is awesome, so I'm sure she's gonna bring baddie
vibes to Lois Lane as usual. But yeah, it'll be so cool, also knowing our show
exists and seeing this other version of it. Yeah, I'm excited to see it, for sure.

Superman is James Gunn’s third DC project under his belt, having previously
helmed The Suicide Squad and the first season of Peacemaker. Although
Superman is still rolling cameras, Gunn shared that filming has also begun on
Season 2 of the latter TV series, which can be streamed with a Max
subscription. As if that wasn’t enough to keep him busy, he’s also co-running
DC Studios with Peter Safran, and together they came up with the opening
“Gods and Monsters” slate of DC Universe movies and TV shows.

Superman flies into theaters on July 11, 2025, and new episodes of My
Adventures with Superman premiere Sundays at midnight ET on Adult Swim.

As filming for James Gunn's Superman continues, production has moved to
LaGrange, Georgia, which will be the location for the scenes taking place at the
Kent Farm.

No matter where his adventures took him, the Man of Steel has always returned
home to see his folks in all previous Superman-based movies and TV shows,
and it seems the upcoming DCU reboot will be no different.

While they don't reveal very much, the first photos from the set have now been
shared online. We're not sure if one of these buildings is the actual Kent home,
as they may simply be other structures on or around the property.

"Pa" and "Ma" Kent will be played by Pruitt Taylor Vince and Neva Howell.
Gunn has also taken to Instagram to share another behind-the-scenes photo.
Though it doesn't look like any of these guys are in-costume here, the shot
gives us a look at the filmmaker alongside Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner), Skyler
Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), and two actors who may or may not have joined the
cast of the movie: Mikaela Hoover and Christopher McDonald.
Gunn revealed our first look at David Corenswet in his Super-suit a few weeks
ago, and the reaction was somewhat mixed. The image, which showed an
already battle-tested Man of Steel putting his boots on to go deal with another
potentially catastrophic threat to Metropolis, was effective enough, but some
fans were hoping for a clearer glimpse of our new Man of Tomorrow and his
updated costume.

Superman will also star Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Isabela Merced as
Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.

More recently, Sara Sampaio signed on to play Lex's assistant/lover Eve

Teschmacher. Milly Alcock's Supergirl is also rumored to make her debut ahead
of her own Woman of Tomorrow movie, but that's yet to be confirmed.

As filming continues on James Gunn's DCU Superman reboot, the Guardians of
the Galaxy director has shared an update on the progress of the production.

Responding to a fan on social media who asked when we can expect a first
trailer, Gunn revealed that we're going to be waiting another while, as the movie
is now "just over halfway through" shooting.

Production recently moved to Macon, Georgia, and a photo was shared to

X/Twitter of a heavily tarped-up set. Cameras are not expected to start rolling
until early next month, but Gunn and co. definitely seem to be taking every
precaution to ensure that spy shots don't leak online.
In addition, Nicholas Hoult took to Instagram earlier today to share some photos
from his visit to Laguna Seca, where he got to test the Ferrari 296 challenge
car. He is not in-costume as Lex Luthor here (obviously), but he is sporting the
villain's signature shaved head.

13WMAZ.com reports that filming is taking place in Macon, Georgia for the new
“Superman”, boosting the local economy.
James Gunn’s upcoming movie moved in this past week and is set to film at
Terminal Station in downtown Macon, with casting directors searching for extras
as the production takes over the Terminal Station to prepare for scene work.

Overlooking all the construction is the Tubman Museum, and curator Jeffrey
Bruce says he can see all of the developments from his second-floor office.

“People get especially excited about movies and films being made here,” Bruce
said. “It draws a lot of attention. It draws a lot of activity. It draws a lot of people
and that’s good for us. Like I said, it’s good for downtown, it’s good for the
museum. We love to have people walking around downtown coming to see
what we’re about.”

Previously known as “Superman: Legacy”, the cast of the film, now simply titled
“Superman”, features David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel
Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Terence Rosemore as
Otis, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher,
Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi
Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, María Gabriela de
Faría as The Engineer, Neva Howell as Martha Kent, and Pruitt Taylor Vince as
Jonathan Kent.
Directed by James Gunn, “Superman” is scheduled to be released July 11,

James Gunn Confirms Casting of Ma and Pa Kent for “Superman” Movie

May 18, 2024
Director James Gunn has confirmed the casting of Pruitt Taylor Vince as
Jonathan Kent and Neva Howell as Martha Kent, Superman’s adoptive parents,
in the upcoming “Superman” movie.
On his social media accounts, Gunn wrote, “Happy Anniversary to my favorite
Kansas farmers Ma & Pa Kent who will be played by Pruitt Taylor Vince (an
actor I’ve wanted to work with since I saw him in James Mangold’s Heavy in
1995) & the delightful Neva Howell.”

“Ma & Pa Kent 1st appeared in Superman #1 May 18, 1939.”

“Clark’s parents had a few names until they were formally named John and
Mary Kent in SUPERMAN #53 in 1948, a retelling of Superman’s origin story.
Jonathan & Martha as their formal names were established in later issues.”

Accompanying the post Gunn included a page from 1988’s “Superman For All
Seasons #1”, written by Jeph Loeb and drawn by Tim Sale.

Henry Cavill as Superman.

DC's new co-CEO, James Gunn recently took to Instagram to give fans their
first look at David Corenswet suited up as the new Superman. The
unsanctimonious torch passing from Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill to Gunn and
Corenswet after the shared universe reset certainly stirred up a storm, and
things are still heating up on social media now that we have our first look at the
new Supes in his beloved red trunks.

While many are eager to see how the Pearl actor will interpret the character of
The Last Son of Krypton in Gunn's Superman, a significant portion of very vocal
Snyder fans have responded in a way that's both amusing and revealing. The
internet has been inundated with memes about this upcoming DC movie, many
of which pay tribute to Cavill's portrayal of the Man of Steel. And this blend of
homage and playful protest encapsulates the distinct fan culture surrounding
the Snyderverse.

Snyder diehard @KMB_1186 shared fan art they found on Vero depicting a
stylized take on Henry Cavill, replacing David Corenswet in Gunn’s reveal
image, suited up once again – albeit in a much more comic-accurate suit. The
art, which you can see below, was accompanied by the following caption:

Now there's a Supes suit #HenryCavillSuperman #SellSnyderVerseToNetflix

#RestoreTheSnyderVerse.

Self-described movie enthusiast @AkkiZac019 humorously used the reactions

of the former WWE CEO, Vince McMahon, to represent the overwhelming
approval for Cavill's Superman compared to others. Each frame captures
McMahon's increasingly dramatic reactions, culminating in awe at Cavill's
depiction. They claim the meme depicts their genuine response to each Supes
casting.

Adding another layer to the tapestry of fan reactions, superhero super fan
@restoreZSJL contributed a meme that encapsulates the sentimental longing
for Henry Cavill's portrayal of Superman. The meme uses an image of
Wolverine from the X-Men: The Animated Series, shown nostalgically looking at
a photo, cleverly edited to feature Cavill’s Kal-L. The caption "I miss him so
much. #HenryCavillSuperman #RestoreTheSnyderVerse" succinctly expresses
the deep emotional connection and yearning for the return of Cavill's iteration of
the character.

As the debate rages on over the new direction of Superman and the broader
DC universe, fans continue to advocate passionately for a return to Snyder’s
original vision. X (formerly Twitter) user @SnyderQueen_ echoed this sentiment
vividly, criticizing the current offerings from Warner Bros:

Now we've seen the burnt food WB is trying to serve, lets continue to remind
them what the fans want to see. On Nov 17 we trend for Zack & Henry 💪 🔥
#RestoreTheSnyderVerse #HenryCavillSuperman

Zack Snyder fans are nothing if not passionately loyal.

However, I am excited to see what the former Guardians of the Galaxy director
brings to this first chapter of the new DCU. What we know about Superman is
limited. But, based on the first look alone, Gunn revealed on Threads that the
photo “was taken on set by Jess Miglio and was entirely in-camera,” I'm already
stoked.

The image in question looks fantastic. And in my humble opinion, Corenswet

looks perfect in the costume, and I think he will do a great job leading the
Superman cast. The new super suit seems both modern and classic. The high
collar feels like a definite nod to DC’s New 52 reboot take on the character, but
we are also getting the return of the classic red trunks! Who would have thought
we’d see the day?

We still have a bit of a wait until Clark Kent flies back onto the big screen, as
Superman doesn’t land in theaters until July 11, 2025. Until then, you can check
out our 2024 movie schedule to see what upcoming superhero movies are
headed to a nearby theater.
The 6'6" David Corenswet has reportedly packed on 40 lbs. of muscle to play

In a new interview with GQ, celebrity trainer Paolo Mascitti is revealing the tips
and tricks he used to turn the lean David Corenswet into a jacked, powerhouse
ahead of filming on the DCU's Superman.

Said Mascitti, "This is a James Gunn film, and he has a specific vision of the
entire project. David had been working out intensively before I met him, but he’s
naturally a very lean guy. He’s 6’6” but we wanted to put more bulk on him. He
probably went from 200lbs to 240lbs, but some of that mass will be shed as he
continues to tone up.”

He revealed that he and Corenswet had very intense training sessions for about
5 months before filming started on Superman. However, even though the
cameras are now rolling, they're still training.
"He’s very busy right now so we’re only fitting in three or four sessions a week,
but he’s still working out for two hours a day...He is Superman. James Gunn is
amazing at casting people, and this guy was born to be Superman. Ask any
cast or crew member, David is the nicest guy, and I think, the perfect
Superman.”

The interview eventually took a more humorous turn as Mascitti revealed that
Corenswet's "kryptonite" during training was cereal.

"Half of his training had to be done over FaceTime and half in person as he
wasn’t in Los Angeles all the time. We’d speak remotely and I’d ask him about
his diet and he’d be eating cereal! He’d ask What’s wrong with cereal!? But
that’s why he’s the perfect Superman, he has a realistic expectation of himself
and the role."

In terms of how they added on size for Corenswet, Mascitti stated that David's
training started with a caloric surplus and big, traditional compound movements.

They started with 4 sets of 10 reps, upping the weight with each subsequent
set. An example workout would be:

Incline Dumbell Press

Bench press / cable fly superset
Seated overhead shoulder press / front raise superset
Reverse triceps extension / bicep curl superset
Squats
Reverse to forward lunge superset with kettlebell
Leg raises
CrossFit sit-ups
Incline treadmill run
As mentioned above, perform 4 sets of 10 reps for each exercise, progressively
overloading each set.

Earlier this week, James Gunn, DC Comics, and Warner Bros. unleashed the
first official image of the Superman suit, likely due to the fact that filming is set
to leave the tightly-guarded confines of the Trilith Studios in Fayetteville,
Georgia and film on-location in Macon.

In addition to the on-location filming in Macon, Georgia, the cast and crew will
also be traveling to Ohio soon, where they'll likely shoot at a site that could
potentially be used for the Hall of Justice.

It was also recently revealed that Gun will be pulling double-duty over the next
few months, as he'll also be helming a few episodes of Peacemaker season 2,
which is also filming at Trillith.

The James Gunn-directed (and written) film stars David Corenswet as Kal-
El/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nathan Fillion as Guy
Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister
Terrific.

Rounding out the cast are Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord, María Gabriela de
Faría as Angela Spica/The Engineer, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Wendell
Pierce as Perry White, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, and Anthony
Carrigan as Metamorpho.

Additionally, Nicholas Hoult has been confirmed by Gunn to portray Lex Luthor
in the film. Milly Alcock was also recently cast as Supergirl and is also expected
(but unconfirmed) to appear, as well.

More recently Pruitt Taylor Vince was cast as Jonathan 'Pa' Kent, while Neva
Howell signed on to play Martha 'Ma' Kent.

Currently set for release on July 11, 2025, Superman: Legacy Superman is the
first film in Gunn's reboot of the DCEU.
Why the first in-costume photo of David Corenswet as the Man of Steel,
revealed today on director James Gunn's Instagram, has purists cheering a pair
of red briefs.
By William Goodman

Look, up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s our official first look at the
Superman costume! After a few months of waiting—and with roughly 14 months
still left to go until the new Superman movie opens on July 25, 2025—DC
Studios head and Superman helmer James Gunn revealed the first look at the
costume for David Corenswet’s take on the Man of Steel, via an image of
Corenswet's Superman pulling his boots on in preparation to defend the world
from the unspecified cosmic threat visible through the window of his
apartment— and the biggest takeaway is that the trunks are back.

Trunks are a bit of a contested costume design element among comic book
fans. Underpants worn outside tights were originally signifiers of strength
donned by stage-bound bodybuilders and athletes in the 1930s and harkened
back to the original comic book adventures of Superman. Before he flew and
fought aliens, Superman lifted bridges, wrestled elephants, and stopped trains
— all activities more in line with strongmen of the times. So the trunks made
sense, as a visual nod to carnival-style feats of strength and daring—and then
they stuck around, for decades, even as the character evolved. Both
Christopher Reeve and Brandon Routh rocked trunks during their tenures as
Supes before Henry Cavill and Zack Snyder jettisoned them for 2013’s Man of
Steel.

It may sound ridiculous, but the trunks are an ideological litmus test. Gunn's
decision to go with the trunks is a literalization of his desire to return to the
classical conception of Superman as a Big Blue Boy Scout, saving kittens from
trees and helping the common folk, rather than the tortured Christ-like figure
Superman became in the Snyderverse era. Along with the trunks come a few
different design elements pulled from other sartorial sources. The (previously
teased) S-symbol evokes costume designs from Mark Waid and Alex Ross'
famed 1996 miniseries Kingdom Come, in which an older Superman and other
heroes of his generation returned to action after decades away, while the mock
neck and textural elements on the sleeves and pants feel very similar to 2011’s
New 52 reboot suit, which also excluded trunks. The mock neck is a bolder
choice for a superhero costume, so we asked GQ's style team for their take on
it. “We are longtime mock-neck supporters here at GQ, so that’s a plus on my
end,” said style editor Yang-Yi Goh, who also notes that exterior underpants
have been having a moment lately.

It’s also worth noting that Corenswet’s pose is similar to how artist Frank Quietly
often renders the character in All-Star Superman, his acclaimed 2005-2008
collaboration with writer Grant Morrison. All-Star is universally hailed as one the
best recent takes on the character, a streamlined modern story that still
managed to harken back to the foundational, traditional conception of
Superman; back in March 2023, when Gunn confirmed that he'd be directing
the next Superman film, he posted a Quitely image of the Man of Steel from the
cover of All-Star Superman #1 on his Instagram.

Gunn stated on Instagram today that the new costume image was shot entirely
in camera by his longtime set photographer Jessica Miglio, which means
whatever that giant alien orb in the background is, it's part of the film in some
capacity. Is the creature there as part of a scheme by Lex Luthor (Nicholas
Hoult)? Or is it some other intergalactic threat? Either way, this won’t be the last
time we’ll likely get a costume reveal, as we still have plenty of other heroes to
see in Superman, including Kal-El’s cousin, Supergirl.

SUMMARY
David Corenswet's Superman suit breaks tradition with a lived-in, realistic
appearance, avoiding common tight, CGI-heavy trends.
James Gunn's grounded debut of Superman captures a human moment,
showcasing Clark Kent's Kansas boy heart over flashy heroics.
Gunn's approach to Superman's visual debut offers a refreshing departure from
overuse of CGI in big-budget superhero movies.

The world finally knows what David Corenswet's titular hero will look like in
Superman, and the DCU's lead-off superhero is already bucking a common
super-suit trend. Ever since James Gunn announced the first few years of DC
Universe projects would start on the big screen with the then-titled Superman:
Legacy (now simply called Superman), debates have raged over what exactly
Clark's outfit should be. Finally, Gunn has revealed the first image of Corenswet
in his full Superman outfit, which sports a mix of apparent inspirations both old
and new.
While almost every superhero has an important relationship with their costume
and overall visual design, few pairings inspire as heated opinions as Superman
and his red and blue get-up. From the classic simpleness of Christopher
Reeves' 1978 Superman franchise to Henry Cavill's more alien design,
Superman has looked markedly different from actor to actor. However,
Corenswet's unique Superman reveal is bold and manages to avoid a
frustrating trend all too common in modern superhero movies.

David' Corenswet's Superman Suit Looks Like Actual Clothing

Gunn posted Corenswet in his full Superman outfit on Threads and Instagram
early on May 6, and while the design has been met with general positivity,
there's also been a bit of surprise and confusion about the composition of the
photograph and some details of the suit itself. For lack of a better phrase,
Superman's suit looks lived in. Not only is it dirty, but it's also not a painted-on-
tight mystery of physics mysteriously clinging to Corenswet's body.

For lack of a better phrase, Superman's suit looks lived in.

Likely anticipating questions about the suit's fit, Gunn clarified in his Threads
post that the image is entirely "in-camera." What this means is that everything
seen by viewers is what the camera registered, devoid of touch-ups or digital
alterations (the Metropolis skyline and energy blast is likely a large, wrap-
around digital screen often used in film production). Corenswet's suit has bulk
and weight to it, and wrinkles adorn his arms, shoulders, and torso. The cape
hangs down to the ground without billowing. The fabric actually looks real.

While the unique approach to Superman's visual debut likely won't be for
everyone, it stands in contrast to a disappointing trend in big-budget superhero
movies. While practical suits can be incredibly challenging to make and film, the
over-use of CGI often detracts from the overall experience. Recently, The Flash
faced criticism for its overall visual effects, but notably for the bizarre, uncanny
valley effect of seeing Ezra Miller in a suit over-altered by special effects.
However, the MCU has also earned notable and often justified criticism for poor
CGI taking the place of more tangible feeling practical suits and sets.

James Gunn's Superman Reveal Is Shockingly Grounded

DCU Superman New Logo With David Corenswet Custom ImageCustom Image
by Kevin Erdmann

More than just Clark's suit, though, the entire Superman reveal is surprisingly
grounded. Many likely and reasonably expected Superman's debut image to be
overly heroic. Perhaps Clark would be flying through the sky, brightly lit by the
sun in front of a clear Metropolis sky. Instead, Corenswet's Clark is shown in a
surprisingly human moment, sitting down and putting on his boots.

While less action-packed or vibrant than some may like, this picture highlights
the best part of Clark Kent. Despite being an alien and one of, if not the most
powerful beings on the planet, he's got the heart of a boy from Kansas and is
perhaps more human than anyone. While Superman's official marketing
materials will likely be as bombastic as other heroes', Gunn's first look is a great
sign that he knows what makes Superman special.

SUMMARY
David Corenswet's first official image wearing the full Superman suit suggests
that James Gunn's movie is focusing on the hero's humanity rather than on his
godlike persona.
Superman's humility and values, rather than just his superhuman abilities, are
what makes him special.
James Gunn's down-to-earth approach to Superman could set a standard for
the DCU's heroes, emphasizing their relatability and kindness.
James Gunn's first official glimpse at David Corenswet's full Superman suit is a
great sign for the DCU's adaptation of the Man of Steel. Expectations for every
movie and show in James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Universe are soaring,
but Gunn's upcoming Superman movie especially so. Henry Cavill's Superman,
despite the DCEU's issues, left the bar quite high, and Superman will lay the
foundations for the whole DCU with its plot, cast, tone, and setting. With dozens
of projects already in motion for the DCU's "Gods and Monsters" chapter,
Superman needs to guarantee a good reception.

First impressions truly matter, and Superman's full DCU suit reveal is no
exception. James Gunn heightened anticipation with the chest logo's reveal and
various posts and comments on social media hinting at different parts of the
costume. On May 6, 2024, Gunn posted an image of David Corenswet's
Superman wearing the suit as he gets ready for battle. Unlike previous first
glimpses at live-action Superman suits like Henry Cavill's in Man of Steel and
Brandon Routh's in Superman Returns and The CW's Crisis on Infinite Earths,
David Corenswet's first Superman image shows a visibly tired and battered
hero.

David Corenswet's Superman Reveal Image Is Surprisingly Mundane

The DCU's Superman Looks Beaten Up And Weary In Between Battles

Superman is synonymous with hope and power. It would have been sensible for
David Corenswet's Superman to be shown flying or posing heroically in
Superman's first official image. Instead, the Man of Steel appears weary, bent
over, putting his boots on. Superman's suit is also damaged and dirty, and
unlike every other live-action iteration, it's thick and prone to wrinkling. In short,
the DCU's Superman is presented to the world as a human being rather than as
an untouchable deity.

David Corenswet's Superman Reveal Breaks A Frustrating Superhero Costume

Trend
After months of anticipation, James Gunn has released the first image of David
Corenswet's Superman in costume, and it breaks a common outfit trend.

Despite having the possibility to ignore conflicts that don't require his help or
solving every problem by brute force, Superman approaches his job as a
responsible duty he must fulfill, like any humble worker does. Superman's first
official image perfectly represents this aspect of the character, with Superman
preparing himself for battle despite his exhaustion. He might be faster than a
speeding bullet and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, but he also
grows frustrated and feels personally affected by his battles.

Superman Is At His Best When He's Human

Clark Kent's Regular Human Lifestyle Is The Hero's Core Quality

Superman's Kryptonian nature makes him one of the most powerful characters
in the DC universe, but his humble upbringing makes him the most modest.
While he's basically an invincible god, Superman chooses to live as a regular
human, interacting with others as a soft-spoken Clark Kent when he's not
saving the world. It's Superman's humility that makes him such a special
superhero. No superhuman feat or temptation corrupts him. Kal-El is technically
a higher being with everything he needs to take over the world, yet he sacrifices
his time, relationships, and his emotional well-being to serve and protect it.

Instead of an unstoppable god trying to be human, David Corenswet might be

depicted as a human being facing the trials of a god.

The DCEU captured Superman's struggle to fit in quite nicely. Henry Cavill's
Superman was depicted as a godlike figure who insisted on saving a world that
judged him and rejected him, which is a valid take on one of the many dramatic
elements of Superman's history. James Gunn's Superman seems to explore a
similar struggle from the opposite angle. Instead of an unstoppable god trying to
be human, David Corenswet might be depicted as a human being facing the
trials of a god.

In the DCEU, Henry Cavill's Superman spent very little time as Clark Kent , and
his job at the Daily Planet was mostly glossed over.

Why A Down-To-Earth Superman Is Perfect Right Now

Superman's Humble Personality Helps Him Stand Out In The Superhero Movie
Genre
Christopher Reeves' Clark Kent Talks with Pa Kent at the Kent Farmhouse in
DC Comics Superman Panel
The superhero movie genre has gotten pretty crowded with powerful heroes in
recent years. The MCU has gone from Super Soldiers and armored heroes to
multiverse-changing sorcerers and star-igniting aliens. The DCEU's 16 movies
introduced a wide variety of powerhouses like Aquaman, Black Adam, and the
Flash before the franchise's premature conclusion. Superman's usual feats of
power are no longer as impressive as they used to be when Christopher
Reeve's Superman first took flight in 1976. An invincible superhero isn't a
groundbreaking sight anymore.

Superheroes' world-saving exploits can age quickly, but their values and morals
are timeless. Regardless of whether Superman is fighting Darkseid, stopping
Lex Luthor, or rescuing a cat from a tree, it's his willingness to help that sticks
with viewers and readers. Emphasizing Superman's generosity and humility
could be the basis for his DCU arc, which could help avoid the age-old
challenge of making the Man of Steel relatable for the general audience.
Beyond James Gunn's Superman, gentleness and relatability could also be the
overarching theme across the whole DC Universe.
David Corenswet's physical transformation as Superman was revealed through
a workout image shared by his trainer.
Corenswet's muscular physique is comparable to Henry Cavill's Superman,
establishing him as a physically imposing Superman.
Corenswet's height advantage over Cavill at 6'4'' enhances his portrayal of
Superman in James Gunn's upcoming film.

The first look at David Corenswet as the lead hero in James Gunn's Superman
has been revealed, and now a new look at the actor's impressive physical
transformation to play the DC Universe's Kal-El has been shared. Despite
having started filming in February, Gunn managed to keep the Superman suit a
secret until now, with the reveal likely coming ahead of outdoor filming, so the
first look at David Corenswet's Superman did not come through set photos.
Corenswet went through quite the workout routine to achieve his Superman
look, and a new photo spotlights his physical journey.

On Instagram, the personal trainer of the Superman cast, Paolo Mascitti, shared
a workout image of Corenswet showing off his Superman physique.

Corenswet has clearly bulked up for the role, with the actor flexing his new
Superman muscles in the workout image. Mascitti had previously shared the
physical transformations that other actors in the Superman cast had gone
through, including Mr. Terrific actor Edi Gathegi and The Engineer star María
Gabriela de Faría. Corenswet's physique is bound to be compared to that of
other Superman actors.

How David Corenswet’s Superman Physique Compares To Other Clark Kent

Actors

Henry Cavill Was The Latest Superman Movie Star

As his workout photo clearly shows, Corenswet has packed on a lot of muscle
to portray DC's Man of Steel. The actor's physique is most akin to the latest
actor to don the Superman mantle in theaters. Corenswet has been compared
to the DCEU Superman actor Henry Cavill since he was first announced to be
on the run for the DCU Superman role. However, this new workout image
cements that comparison, as no other Superman actor has bulked up as much
as the two.

Corenswet, however, has an advantage over Cavill, as the DCU Superman is a

few inches taller than the DCEU star. Corenswet stands at 6'4'', while Cavill's
height reaches the 6'1'' mark. As one of the two tallest actors to have ever
played the Man of Steel in live-action and looking very similar to Cavill's
impressive Superman physique, there is a chance that throughout Gunn's
Superman and his future DCU appearances, Corenswet will cement himself as
the most physically imposing Superman star yet.

Corenswet's physique is also impressive due to him sharing the record for the
tallest Superman actor with perhaps the very best to ever play the role.
Christopher Reeve was also 6'4'', just like Corenswet. However, different from
the DCU's Man of Steel, Reeve always sported a leaner look during his four
movies as Superman. Other impressive Superman actors in the physical
department include Superman Returns' Brandon Routh, who looked even
bigger in the Arrowverse's Crisis on Infinite Earths than in his solo film, and
Smallville's Tom Welling. Corenswet's Superman debuts next year.

The upcoming DCU Superman movie, directed by James Gunn, promises a

fresh take on the iconic character's costume and symbolism.
SUMMARY
David Corenswet's Superman suit breaks tradition with a high collar, marking a
departure from past live-action interpretations.
Corenswet's suit draws inspiration from the New 52 era, adding seam lines,
while also taking inspiration from "Kingdom Come" by adding this symbol to the
classic design.

David Corenswet's Superman suit has been revealed, prompting much

discussion over an element that breaks 46 years of tradition. Since James Gunn
announced that David Corenswet would be the DCU's Superman, many have
been eager to get a glimpse at how the actor looks as Clark Kent. This has
included how the Superman suit will be designed, which holds great importance
for both the symbolism of the character and the overall DCU, of which Clark will
be the central pillar.

Although the first looks at other members of Superman's ensemble cast are
also anticipated - such as Lois Lane, Hawkgirl, Guy Gardner, and Lex Luthor -
none were positioned as important as Corenswet's debut. In May 2024, James
Gunn took to social media to give DCU audiences what they wanted, revealing
the first image from the Superman movie that highlighted Corenswet's suit. With
much to dissect and discuss, the discourse around Superman has been
focused on one specific aspect of the costume that breaks 46 years of tradition
regarding the Son of Krypton.
David Corenswet's Superman Costume Is The First Live-Action Version To
Have A Collar
Corenswet's Superman Has A Notable Collar

The aspect in question is a high-rising collar sported by David Corenswet's

Superman. This makes the costume in Superman the first in live-action to have
a high collar, going all the way back to 1978's Superman. Since Christopher
Reeve's debut as the Man of Steel, no version of Superman's costume in live-
action has includeda collar, though Gunn's iteration bucks that trend.
In the image, Corenswet's Clark can be seen fastening his bright red boots as a
mysterious beam of light engulfs Metropolis in the background. While the boots,
the glimpse of red trunks, and the Superman symbol have caused a lot of
discussion, the collar has undoubtedly stood out to those dissecting the first
image of the DCU's flagship film. This is likely due to the aforementioned break
in tradition. Change can often be difficult for fandoms to overcome, specifically
with a character as iconic as Superman. With the collar present, 46 years of
collar-less Superman suits come to an end.

James Gunn's Superman hits theaters on July 11, 2025, just over 14 months
after the first suit for Corenswet's Superman was revealed.

The DCU Superman Costume's Collar Has Comics Precedent

The DCU's Superman Collar Is Honoring A Specific Era Of DC Comic

New 52 Superman DC

Interestingly, the DCU's Superman suit is primarily taking inspiration from the
New 52 era of DC Comics that ran between 2011 and 2016. The suit seems to
be a blending of three iterations of Superman from the comics, with the collar
and seam lines found on Corenswet's costume being taken directly from the
New 52 design. The other elements are taken from the classic Superman suit,
such as the trunks, high red boots, and bright colors, while the Superman
symbol emulates the "Kingdom Come" version of the character.
This [collar], combined with the seam lines scattered throughout the suit, saw
many criticize the New 52 Superman look as they felt it was overdesigned...

Concerning the New 52 specifically, this suit was divisive upon its reveal. Many
did not care for how Superman's suit had become more militaristic, with the
bulkiness of the suit giving it an armored feel. This, combined with the seam
lines scattered throughout the suit, saw many criticize the New 52 Superman
look as they felt it was overdesigned and thus fit closer with a video game
version of the character such as Injustice, not matching the usual tone of Clark
in DC Comics.

As evident by James Gunn's image of Corenswet's Superman costume reveal,

these seam lines can be spotted for the DCU suit. This gives Corenswet's suit a
similar militaristic feel, with the collar garnering criticism as it did in the New 52.
Many thought that Superman's New 52 collar made the suit look unnatural
when combined with the seams of his cape. It gave the suit the appearance of
having two separate parts for the neck and shoulder area, needlessly
complicating the classic design without a collar. Given this divisiveness,
Corenswet's Superman collar is facing similar criticism from DC Comics fans.

Other Ways David Corenswet's Superman Costume Is Different

Corenswet's Superman Suit Has Other Differences From Past Live-Action
Iterations

All-Star SupermanCustom image by Felipe Rangel
When comparing Corenswet's Superman suit to other live-action versions, it has
some notable differences besides the collar. As alluded to, the seam lines on
Corenswet's suit are not as prominent on any other Superman suits, be it
Reeve's, Brandon Routh's, or Henry Cavill's from the major movie
interpretations or Tyler Hoechlin's from the CW's Superman & Lois. Similarly,
the "Kingdom Come" Superman symbol is new for live-action, at least where
movies are concerned. Only Brandon Routh's version of Superman from the
Arrowverse's Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover possesses this logo, besides
Corenswet's Clark.

Feature Opinion

May 06, 2024
Predictably, the first look at David Corenswet's Superman suit from the James
Gunn-directed reboot is going viral on search engines and social media.
However, while most comic book fans are focusing on the nature and potential
origin of the costume (whether it's something Kryptonian or a Ma Kent original)
it's worth noting that there seems to be a gigantic planet/ship/alien attacking
Metropolis in the background.
Given that James Gunn has asserted that the main (and potentially only) villain
in Superman is Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor, it's something of a headscratcher to
see the giant object attacking the city.
Below, we'll examine some possible identities for the floating object but we'll
also caution that this could be an original creation for the film.
Sun-Eater

First appearing in All-Star Superman, the Sun-Eater resides in the Fortress of

Solitude and is something of a pet for the Man of Steel, albeit a powerful one,
as the creature literally eats suns. When the villainous Solaris (more on him
later) comes to attack Earth, the Sun-Eater comes to aid Kal-el but ultimately
meets his demise. We know the Fortress of Solitude is set to appear in James
Gunn's reboot, so what are the odds that the Sun-Eater makes a cameo?
Solaris
As Superman is said to be taking inspiration (partly) from All-Star Superman,
another giant entity that appears in the comic is Solaris. It's an artificial solar
computer that works with Lex Luthor to depower the Man of Steel by turning the
sun red. While Superman manages to defeat the powerful computer, it uses the
last of its power to turn the sun blue, a condition that usually gives Kryptonians
more power. However, in the case of All-Star Superman, the Man of Steel was
already dying due to having his cells oversaturated by solar energy and the sun
turning blue merely sped up his demise.
Warworld
There's been no hint that Mongul will show up in Superman (although his
daughter did show up in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad) but the sphere
attacking Metropolis definitely seems eerily similar to the villain's ship,
Warworld. More of a mobile planet than a space ship, Warworld serves as an
irreplaceable asset in Mongul's quest for galactic domination. If the DCU wants
to distinguish itself from past cinematic iterations of the Man of Steel, there
aren't too many better options than introducing Mongul and Warworld.

Brainiac Ship
Image

This is likely high on the wishlist of many DC Comics fans. Though the image
lacks the distinguishable tentacles that typically adorn Brainiac's ships, various
versions of the Kryptonian computer's spacecraft have been known to have
retractable tentacles...As mentioned above, there aren't many villains better
than Mongul for the Man of Steel to face on the big screen, however, Brainiac is
one of them.

what it tells us about the reboot, DC Studios' divisive design changes, and even
the movie's possible villain. Check it out...

After first teasing the costume at the end of February, yesterday saw us finally
get a proper look at David Corenswet's Man of Steel in DC Studios and James
Gunn's SUPERMAN. Unfortunately, the response has been mixed.

That's typically the case with any suit reveal, but the image makes some
noteworthy missteps in its presentation that have left some fans concerned with
the creative direction of the DCU.
In this feature, we take a look at those and what the image itself reveals about
SUPERMAN. From a possible villain tease to the suit's finer, possibly MCU-
inspired finer details, we're breaking it down for you in as much detail as
possible.
So, to find out what we've discovered, simply click on that "Next"/"View List"
button below...

5. He Has The Red Trunks

It's easy to miss, but yes, this version of Superman has his red trunks.
Unfortunately, we only catch a glimpse of those and what looks like a yellow
belt, meaning we don't know whether these are underoos or more like shorts.

Either way, it's a fan-pleasing addition and arguably an upgrade over the sparse
belt design/lack of trunks when Henry Cavill was still playing the character.

This look can work on screen; Superman Returns and, more recently,
Superman & Lois, have proven that. We're sure many of you will have been
overjoyed by the presence of the hero's classic hair curl too.

.
4. The New 52 Inspiration
While the red trunks are present, the rest of Superman's suit is heavily inspired
by the character's appearance during DC Comics' New 52 relaunch.

There are minor changes, but he has a collar, the same style cape, and lines
across the suit that give it a little more texture. As for the previously revealed
chest logo, we're sure the Kingdom Come fans among you will be instantly
familiar with the design.

Gunn has reteamed with The Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.
3 costume designer Judianna Makovsky for SUPERMAN. We're sure you won't
be surprised because it 100% feels like a design we could see in the MCU.

3. Warner Bros.' VFX Haven't Improved

Visual effects have never been Warner Bros.' strong suit, particularly in its
DCEU offerings. The Flash was the perfect example of that and there's a certain
level of inconsistency which can be seen throughout all of its comic book
adaptations.

The effects used in this first look are atrocious. Where the red of the cape
attaches to the blue part of Superman's suit, there are obvious signs of
Photoshop and something about the front of the collar and even Corenswet's
right eyelid also looks off.

Then, there's the background. It should have been easy to get this looking
flawless when it's a mere still. Instead, the glowing orb is oddly flat and perhaps
even AI-generated. We can only hope it isn't indicative of what we'll see in the
movie itself.

Oh, and could Metropolis look any more bland than it does here?

2. A Possible Mongul hint

Rumour has it Lex Luthor creates a Superman clone in the reboot, pitting our
new Man of Steel against an evil version of himself dubbed Ultraman. That
might be true, but we don't think Lex is responsible for that glowing orb.

As we first suggested yesterday, this looks a lot like Warworld and Gunn has
previously shared cryptic clues on social media suggesting he has an interest in
the villain who commands that ship: Mongul.

He seeks domination and control over other civilizations, often clashing with
heroes like Superman and the Green Lantern Corps. Driven by a desire for
power and glory, and willing to commit any atrocity to achieve his goals, he's a
threat we could get on board with seeing in SUPERMAN.

1. Who Thought This Was A Good Idea ?

SUPERMAN is not going to live or die on a costume reveal photo. This thing will
be a distant memory by the time official stills and footage are released, so
there's no need to panic. It does, however, leave us questioning DC Studios'
current decision-making process.

We respect Gunn for trying something new; rather than posting a typical
Superman pose or epic flying shot, he dreamed up an image which reminds us
that Kal-El is just like us, putting on one boot at a time. The execution, however,
is flawed.

It's already generating unflattering memes, while the pose means the costume
appears creased and ill-fitting (almost what you'd expect from a set photo). And
why does Supes appear to be ignoring the mass destruction taking place
outside his window?

This is not the good start to the new DCU we hoped for after the disaster that
was the DCEU...

James Gunn’s first official look at David Corenswet in 2025’s “Superman” brings
a new version of the Man of Steel and his iconic costume to the big screen.
Hollywood has been depicting Superman in the live-action format for 76 years
and counting, as the first actor to assume the superhero role onscreen was Kirk
Alyn in the 1948 serial movie “Superman.”

Since then, a handful of actors have brought Superman to life at the movies and
on television screens over the decades. Corenswet has a long legacy to live up
to, from Christopher Reeve’s iconic turn in the 1970s to Henry Cavill’s grittier
Man of Steel in Zack Snyder’s DC Universe. Back in 2019, Corenswet
told Entertainment Weekly that his biggest acting goal was “definitely to play
Superman.”
“I would love to see somebody do an upbeat, throwback [take on Superman],”
he said at the time. “I love the Henry Cavill dark and gritty take, but I would love
to see the next one be very bright and optimistic.”

Given that Corenswet appears sullen and wearing a dirtied-up Superman suit
in the first look at James Gunn’s movie, it appears his Man of Steel might still
retain some grittiness. Gunn previously told Variety that his Superman actor
had “to be someone who has all the humanity that Superman has but he’s also
an alien. It’s gotta be somebody who has the kindness and the compassion that
Superman has and be somebody who you want to give a hug.”

Check out the evolution of Superman’s costume in film and television (and the
actors who wore the cape) in the list below.

Tom Welling played a teenage Clark Kent/Superman in the television series

“Smallville,” which ran for 10 seasons and 217 episodes between 2001 and
2011. The series took the Superman story and reimagined it as a coming-of-age
drama focused on Clark’s family life and high school life. Welling reprised his
version of Superman on an episode of The CW series “Batwoman.”

Brandon Routh played Superman in the 2006 comic book movie “Superman
Returns,” which followed the Man of Steel as he returns to Earth after a
prolonged absence and reconnects with Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth) and faces
off against Lex Luthor (Kevin Spacey). Although Routh earned acclaim for
channeling Christopher Reeve, the film nosedived at the box office with just
$391 million worldwide and did not lead to a new franchise for the actor. Routh
reprised this iteration of Superman on episodes of The CW comic book series
“The Flash,” “Legends of Tomorrow” and “Batwoman.”
Henry Cavill ('Man of Steel,' 'Batman v Superman,' 'Justice League')

Henry Cavill played Superman in Zack Snyder’s DC Uni

verse, starting with his own 2013 standalone movie “Man of Steel” and
continuing with 2016’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and 2017’s
“Justice League.” He intended to return as the superhero after reprising
Superman in the post-credits scene of 2022’s “Black Adam,” which set up a
future in the DC Universe where he’d go toe-to-toe against Dwayne Johnson.

Just over a month later, Warner Bros. and DC Studios announced Gunn and
Safran as the latter company’s new bosses. The duo were tasked with
overhauling the DC Universe on the big screen, and their plan included bringing
in a new Superman actor to anchor their universe. It was an especially tough
blow for Cavill, who had exited his starring role on Netflix’s “The Witcher”
presumably because his future appeared to include more Superman projects
prior to Gunn and Safran’s hiring.

Tyler Hoechlin debuted as Superman on The CW’s “Supergirl,” starring in six

episodes of the series before continuing with the character on “The Flash,”
“Arrow” and “Batwoman.” Starting in 2021, Hoechlin got his own standalone
series “Superman & Lois,” which co-stars Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane. The
show has aired three seasons and will return for a fourth and final one.

suit in “Zack Snyder’s Justice League,” the four-hour version of the at-first
maligned superhero team-up film that gave its filmmaker more creative control.
The different suit is one of the most prominent differences between the final
acts of the two versions of “Justice League.”
Nicolas Cage ('The Flash')

Nicolas Cage made a surprise cameo appearance as the Man of Steel in 2022’s
“The Flash,” closing the loop on a role that he was supposed to play for director
Tim Burton in a failed Superman movie that never got off the ground. The duo
were supposed to make “Superman Lives” in 1998 from a script by Kevin Smith.
The plot focused on Superman’s fight against Doomsday. Despite spending
over $30 million on the film’s casting and pre-production, Warner Bros. pulled
the plug on “Superman Lives” due to creative differences.

“If you really wanted to know what I was going do with that character, look at my
performance in ‘City of Angels,’” Cage once told USA Today about what fans
could’ve expected from his iteration of Superman. “I was supposed [to play]
Clark Kent after that and I was already developing this alien otherness playing
this angel. That is a perfect example of the tonality you would’ve gotten for Kal-
El and for Clark Kent: Clark would’ve been a little more amusing but Kal-El had
the sensitivity and the goodness and the vulnerability and all those feelings that
were kind of angelic and also terrifying.”

David Corenswet is making his debut as the Man of Steel in James Gunn’s
2025 tentpole “Superman,” previously titled “Superman: Legacy.” The movie is
kicking off a brand new DC Universe that will span movies, television series and
video games. Gunn is overseeing the DC Universe along with Peter Safran.

Corenswet is getting the big break of a lifetime as the star of “Superman,” which
marks his first time leading a major Hollywood tentpole film. The 30-year-old
actor is best known for his supporting roles in two Ryan Murphy-created Netflix
series, “The Politician” and “Hollywood.” His most notable film role prior to
“Superman” was in “Pearl,” the Ti West-directed horror movie starring Mia Goth.

According to director James Gunn, “The above photo was taken on set by Jess

With a higher collar and suit design reminiscent of the New 52 Superman comic
books, the new costume does appear to feature a yellow belt and red trunks.

The new Superman suit has officially debuted. As filming on James Gunn‘s
“Superman” (formerly “Superman: Legacy”) continues, the writer-director shared
to his Threads account a first look at star David Corenswet in costume as the
Man of Steel. The first thing fans might notice is the suit is quite dirty and
weathered, which suggests Superman will be doing plenty of down and dirty
fighting in the movie.
Gunn added on Threads that the first look photo “was taken on set by Jess
Miglio and was entirely in-camera.”

Corenswet is getting the big break of a lifetime as the star of “Superman,” which
marks his first time leading a major Hollywood tentpole film. The 30-year-old
actor is best known for his supporting roles in two Ryan Murphy-created Netflix
series, “The Politician” and “Hollywood.” His most notable film role prior to
“Superman” was probably “Pearl,” the Ti West-directed horror movie starring
Mia Goth.
Starring opposite Corenswet in “Superman” is “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”
Emmy winner Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Nicholas Hoult is taking on the
role of Superman’s infamous villain Lex Luthor, while Gunn’s cast also includes
Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), Edi Gathegi
(Mister Terrific), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl) and
more.

While originally titled “Superman: Legacy,” Gunn revealed in February that he

trimming the title down to just “Superman.” Around the same time, Gunn posted
the first cast photo from the movie’s first table read of the script. Speaking to
Variety at the SAG Awards this year, Brosnahan said it was thrilling to hear
Gunn’s words aloud.

“It was pretty amazing,” Brosnahan said about the table read. “Some of us met
for the first time. Some of us got to see each other again. It was amazing to
hear the script out loud. As with all of these films, there’s a lot of action
sequences and things. So to hear the pacing of the film and to get to hear these
characters occupied by the actors who play them is really fun. It’s also a great
group. You can’t ask for more than that when doing something like this.”

“I have always loved Lois Lane,” the actor added. “She’s smart, ambitious and
can be funny. She knows she’s the smartest person in the room more often
than not. When the opportunity came on…I’m such a fan of James Gunn from
afar…we’re still finding these characters. We haven’t started shooting yet. You’ll
meet the final version of them.”

David Corenswet is super, man! Don't believe this severe dad-joke pun? Then
check him out as Hollywood's next big-screen strongman from Krypton.

Corenswet arrives in the first look at Superman, the film written and directed by
James Gunn that will anchor the newly made-over DC cinematic universe.

Gunn, who also leads DC Studios with Peter Safran, showed a mere glimpse of
the costume while announcing the start of filming on Superman in February. But
now we have our full look.

David Corenswet debuts as the Man of Steel in 'Superman'. DC
"The above photo was taken on set by Jess Miglio and was entirely in-camera,"
Gunn wrote in a post on Threads Monday.

The filmmaker has been actively shooting down rumors about the film left and
right, often on social media platform Threads. When production began, photos
started circulating online with the apparent leaked look at Corenswet in his full
costume. However, Gunn was quick to confirm those were doctored.

The Superman cast also includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas
Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Milly Alcock as Supergirl,
Nathan Fillion as the Earth-based Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced
as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho,

Despite an ensemble full of various DC comics staples, Gunn reiterated in a
recent post on Threads for skeptical fans, "The primary protagonist of
Superman is, shockingly, Superman. The main villain of Superman is,
shockingly, Lex Luthor."

Previously titled Superman: Legacy, Superman revolves around Kal-El trying to

balance his Kryptonian heritage with his upbringing as Clark Kent from
Smallville. "When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film
Superman: Legacy," Gunn explained in a social media post in February. "By the
time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was Superman. Making our way
to you July 2025."

James Gunn is overseeing the DCU's launch alongside Peter Safran at DC
Studios and has now explained why he took the job after being accused of
always plotting to oust Henry Cavill from his Superman role.
News
By JoshWilding –
Apr 28, 2024

If 2023 proved anything, it's that the DCEU desperately needed to be rebooted.
Movies like Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, and Aquaman and the Lost
Kingdom were disasters, and those all-important box office numbers confirmed
fans had reached the end of their tether with the franchise.

Warner Bros. Discovery formed DC Studios at the end of 2022, tapping

filmmaker James Gunn and veteran producer Peter Safran to oversee a new
slate of projects set in the DCU.

Not everyone has been happy about that, of course, particularly as it's meant
saying goodbye to some fan-favourite actors. Man of Steel star Henry Cavill is
near the top of the list and his stint as Superman ended in less-than-perfect
circumstances.
After his Black Adam cameo, Warner Bros. gave the actor a green light to
announce his return as Superman. A couple of months later, Cavill was fired
from the role because Gunn, now heading up DC Studios, wanted to cast a new
Kal-El for his reboot.

We've since learned the SUPERMAN helmer had plans to tell a story about the
Man of Tomorrow as far back as 2021. This has somehow led to a conspiracy
theory surfacing that claims Gunn always planned to oust Cavill and take over
the DCEU..

"I don’t quite understand how that fits," the DC Studios co-CEO said,
responding to a fan on Threads. "Aside from the fact I had no interest in running
DC until Peter decided to do it with me so he could do the exec stuff [and] I
could focus on creative, when I was hired to write Superman it was always
intended as & pitched as a new Superman story."
"So why would I lie about not planning that at the Squad premiere which would
have amounted to the same thing at the end of the day? How does this
particular conspiracy theory make sense?"

Gunn continued fending off some wild accusations which stemmed from Nathan
Fillion accidentally saying he'd been cast as Guy Gardner at The Suicide Squad
premiere when, in reality, it happened at the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
one.

The whole thing is pretty bizarre and there's clearly no truth to Gunn having a
secret masterplan to make this franchise his own. However, not helping matters
is the fact he's bringing back many of the actors he worked with in the DCEU, all
while moving on from the likes of Cavill and Ben Affleck (who, like Zack Snyder,
have a rabid fanbase).

SUPERMAN is currently set to be released in theaters on July 11, 2025.

Justin Howell, stunt performer who is acting as David Corenswet’s stunt double
on the upcoming “Superman” movie, has participated in an interview with Be
More Super on YouTube, revealing interesting details about the film.

Among the information Howell was able to share was the revelation that the film
looks to wrap filming “end of July”. Having started on February 29, that would be
a total of 5 months worth of production.

As for David Corenswet as an actor and a person, Howell says he’s “so down to
earth and just a sweet guy,” adding that he “embodies the character so well”
and he’s eager for fans to see for themselves when the film is released in 2025.

Although he’s unable to divulge any details about the Superman costume,
Howell did say that it “is the most mobile of any of the other suits I’ve worn”.
Having worked as a stunt double for Chris Hemsworth in “Thor in Love and
Thunder” and as Master Chief in “Halo,” Howell says that being Superman’s
stunt double is the “mountain top” of his career to date, and that it “feels like a
very, very cool experience”.

As for the movie as a whole, Howell says that it “feels like the start of a new era.
The things James [Gunn is] doing with it are very interesting.”

Hawkgirl actress Isabela Merced opens up about working with Nathan Fillion's
Green Lantern and the other DC Universe superheroes in James Gunn's
Superman movie. With the DCEU movie timeline officially concluded, Warner
Bros. Discovery is actively working on their new superhero universe in the form
of the DC Universe from Gunn and Peter Safran. The first film that is currently in
production from DC Studios is Superman, featuring David Corenswet as the
new live-action Man of Steel.

However, Gunn's Superman movie will feature several iconic DC heroes,

including Hawkgirl, played by Merced. In a new interview with Screen Rant
while promoting her new Max film Turtles All The Way Down, Merced was
asked for an update on her Superman filming process. While she couldn't give
spoilers, Merced opened up on her excitement about working with Nathan
Fillion as Green Lantern and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific sharing the
following:
Isabela Merced: Oh, well, I have to say your house reminds me of Nathan
Fillion's house, he has a Superman doormat, and he has a doorbell [that]
actually plays the theme of Superman entering his Fortress of Solitude. It plays
the theme when you walk into the house, and I'm really excited to work with
him. He's a great Green Lantern casting choice and Edi Gathegi is amazing, as
well, as Mr. Terrific. We're actually going this Sunday, I think, to film the first
stuff. [Editor's Note: this interview was conducted on Friday, April 5, two days
before the Sunday that Merced was referencing]

Screen Rant: In the suit, I am hoping?

Isabela Merced: Yeah, yeah, of course!

How Hawkgirl, Green Lantern & Mr. Terrific Fit Into James Gunn's Superman
Movie
The New DC Universe Has Multiple Superheroes Already Established In-
Universe

While exact plot details haven't been revealed yet, the Superman movie cast
also includes Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, alongside Guy Gardner,
Hawkgirl, and Mister Terrific. It's unclear if any other DC heroes will make their
way into Gunn's Superman movie, as there hasn't been any new casting for
other roles. Even though there has been concern that there are a lot of
superheroes in what is meant to be Superman's first DC Universe solo film,
Gunn has made it clear that they are there in a supporting capacity.

One of the points that Gunn has been stressing about Superman is that this will
introduce a DC Universe where superheroes are already established. That is
why Clark Kent is already going to be operating as the Man of Tomorrow but
during his early days. Having Hawkgirl, Metamorpho, Green Lantern, and Mister
Terrific helps visualize the world of heroes existing around Superman already in
Chapter 1, "Gods and Monsters." That is also why characters like The Engineer
- played by Maria Gabriela De Faria - from The Authority will also show up, as
this allows for a wider variety of DCU superheroes.

While Merced's Hawkgirl costume hasn't been revealed to the public yet, it's
possible that whenever they film more scenes on location, a few glimpses will
finally emerge. With a lot of details still being kept under wraps, time will tell
when Gunn will reveal more to the world about his Superman movie. But for
now, the DC Universe audience will have to wait and see what else is in store
with the Superman film.

April 21, 2024

James Gunn has revealed that he’s already editing together scenes for the
upcoming “Superman” movie, even though the production is still in the early
stages of filming.

When asked if it was normal to be editing together footage while they were still
shooting, Gunn responded by saying, “When shooting a movie for five months
it’s really normal to edit. I can pick up shots if I need to but, more importantly, I
can start turning shots over to VFX so they’ll be awesome by the time we lock
the picture. Most films are put into theaters with subpar
effects because the edits were rushed.”

Interestingly, James Gunn today randomly posted an image of the original “S”
shield seen on the cover of “Action Comics #1”.

Previously known as “Superman: Legacy”, the cast of the film, now simply titled
“Superman”, features David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel

Central Casting Georgia has posted a couple of casting calls for extras and
actors for filming on the new “Superman” movie taking place in Macon, Georgia.

Superman Casting Call

While the casting call doesn’t specifically state that the feature film is
“Superman” it’s an open secret that the film is working under the title of
“Genesis” for casting purposes.

Central Casting Georgia is looking for people who can portray the role of South
Asian or Caucasian for a particular part of filming that will require those chosen
to “run in the sand with loud sounds going off occasionally around you”.

The casting call states that filming will take place in Macon, GA in late May to
early June 2024, with fittings taking place in Fayetteville, GA in April/early May
2024.

Anyone interested should send contact information and a current photo with the
subject line “MACON” to zoltar@centralcasting.com.

Another casting call for the film is for a “Punk Rock Male” role to work on
Wednesday, April 24 in Fayetteville, Georgia.
They’re seeking guys who can portray ages 18-25 that are 18 years or older,
“all ethnicities who are male that can portray a PUNK ROCKER, in a punk rock
band! Specifically looking for those with piercings, and if you have a mohawk…
EVEN BETTER!”

Superman Casting Call

Fans are speculating on whether this is an attempt at filming a scene
reminiscent of the sequence in “All-Star Superman #10”, in which Superman
saves a young girl, Regan, from jumping off a building.

DCU film.

While filming has already begun, many Superman experts knew that some fairly
important roles in the film were yet to be cast- the roles of the Man of Steel's
Earth parents, Ma and Pa Kent.

Today, The Wrap has unveiled who's playing one of these roles as veteran
character actor Pruitt Taylor Vince has been selected to play Pa Kent.
Pruitt Taylor Vince (63), previously won an Emmy for his role as Clifford Banks
in the 1997 American legal drama, Murder One. He most recently played Rick in
Bird Box, Angelo Ruggiero in Gotti, and Grill in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Pa Kent has previously been played by Kevin Costner in Man of Steel and
Glenn Ford in 1978’s Superman.

In other recent Superman news, Gunn took to social media to address rumors
that Lex Luthor would be creating a Superman doppelganger in the form of
Bizarro or Ultraman to challenge David Corenswet's Clark Kent.

Said Gunn, "The primary protagonist of Superman is, shockingly, Superman.

The main villain of Superman is, shockingly, Lex Luthor. I don’t know where all
the stuff is coming from that it’s something other than this."

"There are so many stories coming out every day it’s difficult to deal with and
everytime I strike something down I’m giving it attention. So, I’ll say again, don’t
believe anything unless you see it HERE (& why would you want to know
everything before the movie comes out anyway?"

Superman, formerly titled Superman: Legacy, is currently filming at a sound

stage in Atlanta, with on-location filming in Ohio on the horizon, at a site that
could potentially be used for the Hall of Justice.

It seems Gun will be pulling double-duty, as he'll also be helming a few

episodes of Peacemaker season 2, which is also filming in Atlanta.

With cameras set to film out in the open soon, the hope among the fandom is
that Gunn and DC Studios will soon reveal the first, official full look at
Corenswet's Man of Steel costume.

(but unconfirmed) to appear in Legacy, as well.

Currently set for release on July 11, 2025, Superman: Legacy Superman is the
first film in Gunn's reboot of the DCEU.

According to TheWrap.com, Pruitt Taylor Vince has been cast to play Jonathan
Kent, Clark Kent’s adoptive father, in the upcoming 2025 “Superman” movie.

Pruitt Taylor Vince has appeared in many movies and TV shows, including an
Emmy Award winning role in “Murder One”. He will next appear in Apple TV’s
“Lady in the Lake” starring Natalie Portman, and has had recurring roles in
“Stranger Things,” “The Walking Dead” and “The Mentalist”.

Previously known as “Superman: Legacy”, the cast of the film, now simply titled

A newly surfaced photo from the set of SUPERMAN offers another look at the
Man of Steel's logo on a director's chair. Is this the best possible design for the
reboot or a misfire on DC Studios' part?
News
By JoshWilding –
Apr 10, 2024
SUPERMAN was mentioned during Warner Bros. Discovery's CinemaCon
presentation yesterday evening, but it sounds like we'll have to wait until this
time next year to see the movie showcased at the event.

That makes sense given where the reboot is in terms of filming. However, many
fans were left disappointed with the lack of DCU updates, not to mention the
fact DC Studios' contribution boiled down to a brief message from James Gunn
and a blurry logo.

The Kingdom Come-inspired design has already divided opinions, but you can
take another look at it thanks to a newly surfaced set photo.
While this logo was used in The CW's Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover when
Brandon Routh donned it to play an older version of Superman Returns' Clark
Kent, those DC TV shows weren't exactly mainstream. As a result, many
moviegoers will eventually see this take for the first time when SUPERMAN is
fully unveiled and it should be interesting to see what they make of it.

The big question now is whether Superman has the trunks or not. The Engineer
remains the only character spotted on set and with Gunn confirming he won't be
at Comic-Con, it might be wise to reign in expectations for a splashy DCU
event.

After all, it could be that our first look at the Man of Tomorrow ultimately comes
in the form of a set photo or an image which debuts in the pages of a
publication like Entertainment Weekly or PEOPLE on a random day of the
week. We'll see.

For now, take a closer look at SUPERMAN's take on this iconic emblem in the X
post below.
SUPERMAN tells the story of Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian
heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is
the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human

Director James Gunn sent a video message to attendees of CinemaCon in Las

Vegas during the Warner Bros. panel yesterday, revealing that the cast of the
upcoming “Superman” movie will be attending CinemaCon 2025 to “kick off the
summer of Superman.”

Also appearing in the video message were David Corenswet (Superman/Clark

Kent) and co-star Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane) who jokingly passed on a
“spoiler” by saying, “Can we disclose something? There’s a man in a cape. Yes,
there’s at least one man in a cape. Here they heard it first”.

At the end of the video the film’s official Superman “S” shield was shown,
revealing a red and gold version of the emblem reminiscent of the symbol seen
in the “Kingdom Come” graphic novel written by Mark Waid and illustrated by
Alex Ross.

DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has assembled an impressive cast for
SUPERMAN, including The Wire and Jack Ryan star Wendell Pierce.

The actor appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers yesterday evening and was
asked about his role as Daily Planet editor-in-chief, Perry White. He played coy
but seems to be relishing the opportunity to board the DCU.

"The great James Gunn is directing that film. That's what I hear," Pierce teased.
"You may know more about it than I do!"

"Like I said, I can remember my lines, but not my characters. I'm looking
forward to this. I never grew up reading comics so I relied on my friends to tell
me about it," he continued. "As you can see, I have a problem with memory. I'm
excited about [it]."

When Pierce's casting was made official, Gunn said he too was "excited" to
welcome the actor into this world. With both Clark Kent and Lois Lane expected
to be front and centre in this story, we anticipate spending a lot of time at The
Daily Planet; that likely means Pierce's role will be significant.
"I completely relate to Superman because he’s everything I am," Gunn said of
the Man of Tomorrow last year. "He’s somebody who is an outsider who feels
like an alien, but also the ultimate insider, because he’s [frick]ing Superman.
And that’s kind of like what I feel like."

"How can I make it different from the Superman movies that have been made
so far, but also have it respect all the Superman movies that have been made
so far? [It] just took me some time to try to figure it out," he'd later say when
asked about turning down the chance to helm a Superman project before The
Suicide Squad.

You can hear more from Pierce in the players below.

Great Caesar’s Ghost, Perry White has been found.

Wendell Pierce, perhaps best known for his work as a detective on HBO’s
seminal crime series The Wire, has been cast as the iconic editor-in-chief of
The Daily Planet in James Gunn’s Superman.

The new feature based on the DC Comics character began rolling in Atlanta on
Thursday. It was previously titled Superman: Legacy.
David Corenswet is starring as Clark Kent/Superman, with Rachel Brosnahan
playing Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane. The cast also includes Nicholas Hoult
as classic villain Lex Luthor.

The character of Perry White is a Man of Steel fixture, first introduced in a

Superman radio serial in 1940. He is the boss of both Kent and Lane, and
depending on the incarnation, can be a tough-as-nails boss, the harried-by-his-
reporters boss, or a father-figure boss. The character has been played on the
big screen by Jackie Cooper (in the Christopher Reeves movies), Frank
Langella (in Bryan Singer’s take) and Laurence Fishburne (in the Snyderverse
movies of the 2010s).

Rounding out Gunn’s cast is Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Sara Sampaio
(Eve Teschmacher), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), Terence Rosemore (Otis),
Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), Nathan Fillion
(Guy Gardner) and María Gabriela de Faría (The Engineer).

The feature marks the first solo Superman project in more than a decade
following Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, which starred Henry Cavill. Warner Bros.
has set a July 11, 2025, release date.

Pierce was most recently seen in the Amazon series Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan,
where he played Clancy mainstay character James Greer. He also did a stint on
Starz’s Power Book III: Raising Kanan. The actor is repped by Paradigm and
Essential Talent.

James Gunn announced that Feb. 29 marked the start of filming on his new
“Superman” movie, which will kick off the rebooted DC Universe under the
supervision of him and his DC Studios co-boss Peter Safran. Gunn also
revealed that his movie, which had been titled “Superman: Legacy,” is now
simply called “Superman.”

“Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN

today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned
– Superman’s birthday,” Gunn wrote in a caption to a photo of what appears to
be a close-up of his version of the Superman costume.

“When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film ‘Superman: Legacy.’
By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN,” he
added. “Making our way to you July 2025.”

David Corenswet, best known for supporting roles in Ryan Murphy shows such
as “Hollywood,” is playing the eponymous superhero opposite “The Marvelous
Mrs. Maisel” Emmy winner Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Nicholas Hoult is
taking on the role of Superman’s infamous villain Lex Luthor, while Gunn’s cast
also includes Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho),
Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), Nathan Fillon (Guy Gardner), Isabela Mercad
(Hawkgirl) and more.

Gunn posted the first cast photo on Instagram last week following a table read
of the script in Atlanta. Speaking to Variety at the SAG Awards, Brosnahan said
it was thrilling to hear Gunn’s words aloud.

“Superman” is set to open in theaters July 11, 2025, from Warner Bros.
