THE SHOOTING
A new Superman set video has swooped online which shows the Man of
Tomorrow being apprehended by the reboot's villain and a closer look at that
surprise DCU cameo. We also have a new shot of Supes himself!

We'd thought the biggest reveal from Superman yesterday would be a first look
at David Corenswet as Clark Kent. However, as cameras continued rolling into
the afternoon, we caught a glimpse of Ultraman and The Engineer alongside
Creature Commandos and Peacemaker season 2's Rick Flag Sr.
Now, a set video has surfaced which shows Ultraman pinning the Man of Steel
to the ground, binding his hands, and then lifting him to his feet as The
Engineer, Flag Sr., and military watch on.
We then watch as Ultraman walks Superman down the street while Metropolis'
greatest superhero talks to Flag Sr. We'd imagine A.R.G.U.S. is somehow
involved and Ultraman's presence is bound to be a big talking point in the
coming months.
Rumour has it Lex Luthor creates a Superman clone using the hero's DNA but
this guy is even larger than the 6'4" Corenswet. How much do you want to bet
that, when the villain's mask is inevitably torn off, the monstrous visage of
Bizarro lies beneath?
You can watch this new Superman set video in the X post below.
According to Cleveland.com, the scene above saw Superman "smashed into
the ground during filming." You can see more photos of this exchange by
following the link to their site.
The cast includes Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific,
Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, and Gabriela
de Faría as The Engineer.
After spending the better part of a week transforming Cleveland into Metropolis,
DC Studios and James Gunn finally started shooting Superman in the city
yesterday.
You can check them out by clicking on the "Next"/"View List" buttons below...
Superman and Mister Terrific spent a fair bit of time on set together yesterday,
but upon closer inspection, we noticed that the latter's foot is bandaged and
bleeding. In fact, it looks like he's been shot through it! At the very least, this
may be an indication their conversation is taking place near the end of the
movie.
We have no context beyond that; however, it confirms the hero will see some
action alongside the Man of Tomorrow.
4. A Key Role For The Daily Planet Staff
Lois, Jimmy Olsen, Perry White, Steve Lombard, and Ron Troupe were all
shown emerging from a ship we believe belongs to Mister Terrific.
Whether he saves them from an attack on The Daily Planet or they're forced to
go on the run, it's exciting to think they're all going to play bigger-than-expected
roles in Superman. There's also enough of them that we expect someone to
die...sorry, Steve!
Now we've seen the suit on set, it's fair to say we should have given it the
benefit of the doubt. Not only is it much brighter than we expected, but it's very
comic-accurate right down to the trunks which - despite what the DCEU would
have you believe - look fantastic in live-action.
It's true that the costume still appears a little ill-fitting on Corenswet, though
we'd imagine that's something DC Studios plans to fix in post-production.
Honestly, this feels like classic Superman and, in that respect, how can you
fault it?
Something strange is happening in Metropolis. As well as Mister Terrific's T-
Sphere ship, a much larger craft has been spotted with a handful of
actors/extras decked out in what appear to be ancient robes.
Then, there are the people in black who some believe could be the Children of
Kaizen Gamorra (in cuffs are being apprehended by the military). The clone
army has ties to The Authority and, with rumours swirling that Lex Luthor
creatures a Superman clone, it's possible Gunn has found a new use for them
here.
Whether Superman will feature an alien threat remains to be seen, though that
mysterious orb and now the presence of a ship has left us convinced we're
going to see the Man of Tomorrow do battle with Mongul.
Superman And Lois Just Look Right Together
You'd think that casting Superman and Lois Lane would be as simple as finding
a really good actor and actress and throwing them on screen together.
However, we see now why Gunn went to such great lengths to cast these two.
Based on what we've seen of Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan standing side-
by-side as these iconic DC Comics characters, they really are the ideal fit to
bring them to life in the new DCU.
This is subjective, we know, but they just look right together and Gunn's
apparent nod to Superman: The Animated Series by having Lois dressed in
purple is definitely something we can appreciate. Now, we just need to hope
that Corenswet and Brosnahan have as much chemistry acting alongside each
other as the photos suggest.

SUMMARY
Corenswet's Superman suit draws comparisons to past live-action versions
through details like boots and the iconic red trunks.
The DCU Superman logo, reminiscent of the Kingdom Come symbol, marks a
notable departure from prior iterations in movies.
Corenswet's suit features unique elements like a cape that connects differently
and a high-collar design inspired by the New 52 Superman.
David Corenswet's outfit for the DCU's Superman has been revealed, bringing
to light the ways it is different, similar, and unique in comparison to comics and
movies past. Although the film has been in production since February 2024,
updates about James Gunn's DCU Superman movie have been somewhat rare
since the barrage of casting announcements that confirmed the film's main
characters. As the next upcoming DCU movie after 2024's Joker: Folié a Deux,
updates about Superman have been highly anticipated.

The red trunks being part of Superman links to the comics, with most versions
across the decades also wearing them. However, much like how Corenswet's
Superman is bringing the trunks back for the first time in years in live-action, the
same can be said for the comics. Most classic versions of Clark wore red
trunks, though the New 52 DC rebrand saw the DC comic Superman costume
change this. For the first time in both mediums in a while, Superman will sport
an iconic part of his original costumes.

The DCU Superman's Cape Is Both Different & Similar To Past Versions

This is the main way the cape is different and links to the suit that inspired
Corenswet's from DC Comics, the New 52 suit. The latter has the same cape-
fastening details as the former which itself was a big difference from past comic
versions. One way the cape is different from every other live-action version
barring Reeve's is that it contains the yellow Superman symbol on the back, a
detail not found in the DCEU, Routh's movie, or Hoechlin's series, Superman &
Lois.

With the New 52-style cape of Corenswet's Superman costume comes the New
52-style collar. With the cape attaching differently to both suits, they have a high
collar, which is a massive difference from other live-action Superman outfits.
Most other Superman collars are much lower wrapping around the neck at the
same height. With Corenswet's suit, his collar rises higher, almost halfway up
his neck, solidifying its similarities to the New 52 Superman of DC Comics.

David Corenswet’s Superman Costume Breaks 1 Major 46-Year Tradition
The first look at David Corenswet’s Superman suit has been revealed, with
attention placed on one element that breaks nearly 5 decades of tradition.
The final element of Corenswet's suit worth pointing out is its overall texture.
The suit has been somewhat criticized for being "MCU-ified" with needless lines
separating aspects of the suit. These lines are found on both the top and bottom
half of the DCU Superman costume, though are not too noticeable and are all
the same color. These lines were not found on other suits, though Corenswet's
shares similarities to Cavill's and Hoechlin's in its overall texture.
The texture is more alien, lacking the smoother, spandex-like texture of Reeve's
and Routh's. This makes the most recent three iterations of Superman feel
more like they are from Krypton, aided by the ribbed textures. This marks the
last major element worth pointing out concerning Corenswet's DCU suit for
Superman, proving it to be similar, different, and fresh in comparison to other
iterations, all at the same time.
‘Superman’ movie filming underway in Cleveland
BY CASSIDY WILSON OHIO
JUN. 24, 2024
CLEVELAND — Cleveland is looking a whole lot more Hollywood as the actors
hit the streets of what’s becoming “Metropolis” for the new Superman movie
shooting downtown.
People have been gathering around trying to see the actors and watch the film
production
Superior Avenue has completely turned into Concord Street in Metropolis,
where Superman and Lois Lane work at The Daily Planet.
“Superman was born here, and it’s only right that it should be filmed here in
Cleveland,” said Lisa Conner, a Cleveland resident.
Hundreds of people were lining the streets, trying to spot actor David Corenswet
as the Man of Steel. The security crews have parts of the street blocked off, but
that hasn’t stopped people from peering in to try and see the action.
“Any movie production that they do down here, doesn’t matter if it’s an alien
movie, doesn’t matter what it is, I’m going down here to see it,” said Jullian
Mitchell, a Cleveland resident.
Clevelanders said the downtown buildings make it a popular city for some
movie magic.
“It’s a great thing for the city with the whole history of our movies with the
Avengers, Fast and Furious, I think that it’s a great opportunity and this is great
for the whole city just to see and watch how everything’s being brought up until
the movies actually hit, and they we can say that we’ve actually seen that
scene, that part of the movie,” Mitchell said.
And residents said they don’t think movie production will slow down anytime
soon in their city.
“Actually it’s becoming kind of normal — a lot of films are coming here to film.
We’ve got some beautiful buildings here that make great backdrops for it,”
Conner said.
“Superman” crews are also shooting scenes at Mentor Headlands Beach State
Park, where what looks like military barracks are set up for the set.
The creators of superman, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, grew up in the
Glenville neighborhood of Cleveland, and there’s a nonprofit to honor their work.
The Siegel & Shuster Society is working to raise money to put up an 18-foot
statute of superman. The goal is to preserve the creators’ legacy for future
generations.
The City of Cleveland said road closures will be in effect for the safety of the
film crew and the public.
Detour signs will be posted to safely guide drivers to alternate routes. Some
closures will be extended closures for more than a few hours or longer.
Some more photos and video from the set of James Gunn's Superman have
been shared online, and they feature a group of mysterious handcuffed
prisoners and a possible first glimpse of Lois Lane...

Following our first look at David Corenswet suited-up as the Man of Steel and
Edi Gathegi in costume as Mr. Terrific early today, some more photos from the
set of James Gunn's Superman have been shared online.
While these shots aren't quite as revealing, they do give us an intriguing insight
into the sequences being filmed on the Cleveland streets that are doubling for
Metropolis.
As for what exactly is going on in the iconic DC Comics location, another photo
spotlights a group of black-clad individuals with their hands cuffed behind their
backs. Did they come from one of the alien crafts (one belongs to Mr. Terrific,
but there are believed to be others), or is this some sort of prisoner exchange
which requires Superman's presence?
Finally, a set video may give us our first glimpse of Rachel Brosnahan as Lois
Lane. It's difficult to be certain, but the woman in purple does certainly look
quite a bit like the Marvellous Mrs. Maisel star.
It's been an exciting day for DC fans as we've finally seen Superman star David
Corenswet suited up as the DCU's Man of Tomorrow.
A great deal of work has been put into transforming Cleveland into Metropolis
and we'd imagine the plan is to shoot there for most of this week. As a result,
we can surely look forward to many more set photos in the days ahead (and
perhaps even later today)
.
There's already speculation that Rachel Brosnahan's Lois Lane is present and it
appears Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor will be getting in on the action as well.
While he doesn't appear to be in costume (at least not yet), here's your first look
at the actor arriving on the set of Superman:
We've been unable to decipher what's happening in the scenes being filmed (it
looks like a large spaceship lands, prompting Superman and Mister Terrific to
team up) but Lex being there suggests he'll have a role to play in the chaos
that's hit Metropolis.
There's also a rather lovely shot of the Man of Steel and his fellow superhero
floating around on social media which could quite easily be an official still from
Superman. For a closer look at the suit, click here.
While not quite as exciting as the other photos we've seen today, it's also been
confirmed that The Daily Planet's iconic globe - spotted above the iconic
newspaper's entrance - lights up.
We'd imagine the building itself will also be topped with a much larger version,
though it's likely going to be added when visual effects are used to create the
Metropolis skyline.
There are also some snaps doing the rounds which confirm the city's streets will
pay homage to comic book writers Grant Morrison, Mark Waid, and Jeph Loeb.
David Corenswet is playing the Man of Steel, while Rachel Brosnahan has been
tapped to star as Lois Lane.
The cast includes Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific,
Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, and Gabriela
de Faría as The Engineer.

Over the past week or so, Cleveland has been transformed into the DCU's
Metropolis for Superman. Now, DC Studios boss and filmmaker James Gunn
has arrived on set to begin shooting.
David Corenswet has been spotted as the new Man of Steel, though he's
mostly covered up in a cloak (meaning we get to see Superman's collar and
little else). He certainly looks the part of the hero, anyway, and should be
revealed in all his red and blue glory soon enough.
The military and police have also arrived in Metropolis, seemingly in response
to whatever will emerge from that massive spaceship that's landed near The
Daily Planet.
People dressed all in black have been spotted with their hands zip-tied behind
their backs, while we can see that there's a fair bit of destruction on the city
streets. We're assuming they're hostages and, on closer inspection, there are a
couple of extras decked out in old, faded robes. Who do they serve? We're still
betting on Mongul.
How much else will be revealed in Superman set photos and videos remains to
be seen. We're hearing that security is very tight, meaning the paparazzi could
be blocked from snapping anything too revealing or spoilery.
We'd be shocked if Corenswet isn't spotted in full costume before the day is
over, though.
Superman tells the story of Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian
heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is
the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human
kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.
Well, another round of set photos showing the interior prior to its construction
have seemingly confirmed that it belongs to Mister Terrific!
Not only does this explain the ship's relatively small size, but it means the
Justice League International member will likely arrive at The Daily Planet to help
fend off whoever might be attacking Metropolis. We'd bet on him being joined by
the movie's other heroes as well.
Cameras are expected to begin rolling tomorrow, meaning we should get to see
them in action...unless DC Studios manages to completely close off the street
and surrounding buildings.
Michael Holt debuted in Spectre #54 in 1997 and was created by John
Ostrander and Tom Mandrake. He's a technological genius with 14 PhDs and is
an Olympic-level athlete. As Mister Terrific, he uses T-Spheres, advanced
gadgets that provide holographic projection, hacking, and offensive capabilities.
And yes, he's often arrived on the battlefield in his own ship which you'll see in
the X posts below...
A closer look at David Corenswet's Superman has also been revealed and,
upon closer inspection, it seems the Man of Steel used his Freeze Breath to
help save the day.
The cast includes Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific,
Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, and Gabriela
de Faría as The Engineer.
We've also caught sight of newspapers with David Coresnwet's Man of Steel
doing his thing as the city's protector. In recent days, debris has slowly been
added to the street and we're hearing that cameras will start rolling on Monday
(meaning we're likely to get a first look at Superman and the cast in action next
week).
While Nicholas Hoult will play Lex Luthor, it's still unclear whether he'll don a
Power Suit to go toe-to-toe with the Kryptonian. The first teaser image for the
movie featured a bizarre alien globe in the background many fans believe could
be Warworld, the ship which belongs to Mongul.
Now, a large set of stairs has been erected on the street, with the idea clearly
being to show someone or something emerging from a ship which will be added
with VFX down the line. That's evident from the fact the steps are metal and a
fan mentioning that there are lights within what looks to be a doorway.
The question is, why is this ship landing outside The Daily Planet and what is
that going to mean for Clark Kent/Kal-El's secret identity?
DC Studios and James Gunn have been so careful up until this point that we'd
imagine they'll go to great lengths to stop any leaks so only time will tell how
much we eventually see. However, the presence of an alien ship does seem to
suggest rumours about Ultraman were false.
Take a closer look at the latest Superman set photos below and let us know
what you think in the comments section.

June 22, 2024 Fans are walking through the streets of downtown Cleveland
getting great photos from the sets being constructed for the new “Superman”
movie.
With virtually unrestricted access, photos are emerging of more storefront signs
and newspaper stands, in which we can see action photos of David Corenswet
as Superman.
The Daily Planent front pages headline reads “Superman Stops MTA Rail from
Running Off the Tracks” (with an action photo of Superman stopping the train)
written by Clark Kent, while the other from the Metropolis Eagle reads
“Superman Saves 20 After Downtown Building Collapse” with a subheading
reading, “No fatalities in what could have been a tragic outcome” written by Erin
Morrell featuring a photo of Superman standing with hands on hips. A side
Analysis column reads, “Questions remain as to cause of incident”.
Previously known as “Superman: Legacy”, the cast of the film, now simply titled
“Superman”, features David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel
Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Terence Rosemore as
Otis, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher,
Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi
Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, María Gabriela de
Faría as The Engineer, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as
Cat Grant, Christopher McDonald as Ron Troupe, Neva Howell as Martha Kent,
and Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent.
Work to transform Cleveland into Metropolis is ongoing, and while we've already
caught sight of the DCU's Daily Planet, the newspaper's iconic globe has now
arrived on Superman's set!
It's been shown on banners, of course, but the physical prop...well, it's an
absolute beauty.
The globe will seemingly hang above the entrance to the Planet's headquarters;
Clark Kent will work there in the movie, with Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, Cat Grant,
Steve Lombard, Ron Troupe, and Editor-in-Chief Perry White joining him.
.
We'd say it's likely some or even all of those characters will soon make their
presence felt, though it's possible we won't get to see them if the set is heavily
protected. So far, we've only caught a glimpse of Gabriela de Faría as The
Engineer and that was several months ago; with that in mind, it may be wise not
to get your hopes up for any big reveals.
After the divisive first shot of David Corenswet, some shots of him suited up
would go a long way in easing the minds of sceptical fans.
In the window of Quitely & Sons Electronics (which itself is a nod to All-Star
Superman artist Frank Quitely), we see that they stock "Lordtech."
This has to be a nod to the company run by Maxwell Lord in the DCU; it
appears he'll specialise in tech, and it wouldn't be overly surprising for Lordtech
computers and cell phones to be featured in place of a real-life brand like Apple.
"The other one you mentioned — who I'm not sure I can still technically mention
publicly, even though obviously the word is out — all I can say is [Maxwell Lord]
is a little bit more grounded in being," Gunn previously teased. "A lot more
grounded, obviously, as a human being. And so that's a character that I'll tackle
in a more traditional way."
On the page, Maxwell Lord was initially depicted as a shrewd entrepreneur and
an ally to superheroes before later becoming a major antagonist, using mind
control and manipulation to further his goals. He has clashed with various
heroes, including the Justice League and in some storylines, his actions have
had significant repercussions on the wider DC Universe.
The character may be best known for his death; after he became too dangerous
to the world, Wonder Woman snapped Lord's neck. His role in the DCU remains
a mystery to us for the most part, though we expect him to be heavily involved
with the Justice League International team.
The cast includes Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific,
Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, and Gabriela
de Faría as The Engineer.
Before we go any further: No, Chris Pratt is not in Superman (as far as we
know, anyway), but the Guardians of the Galaxy star did pay a visit to set along
with some more of director James Gunn's pals for a little preview of some
footage.
Gunn shared a behind-the-scenes photo to Instagram of himself, Pratt and
several other people watching a monitor, presumably as a scene from the
upcoming DCU reboot was being filmed.
Shooting is currently underway in Cleveland, Ohio, and the city streets have
been transformed into Metropolis. We recently caught a glimpse of one of the
storefronts displaying the Daily Planet logo, and we now have a first look at The
Leader Building doubling as the iconic newspaper's base of operations itself.
The photos spotlight the main entrance and lobby. We're not sure if the Planet's
signature globe will sit atop the skyscraper, but that's something that would
likely be added in post, anyway.
Check out the photos at the links below.
So far, the only major reveal that has come from set photos is a glimpse of
María Gabriela de Faría in-costume as The Engineer, but we did get a first
official look at David Corenswet in his Super-suit a few weeks ago.
The image, which showed an already battle-tested Man of Steel putting his
boots on to go deal with another potentially catastrophic threat to Metropolis,
was effective enough, but it's probably fair to say that the majority of fans
weren't overly impressed.
Superman will also star Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion as Green
Lantern Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Anthony Carrigan as
Metamorpho.
We're still not sure exactly how these other superheroes will factor into the
story, but Gunn has previously revealed that Superman's dual-life as both Clark
Kent and the Man of Steel will be explored in the film, suggesting that these
characters will be his "super friends." Whether they'll be part of an actual team
or not remains to be seen.
We've already seen what appeared to be a makeshift military base, and the
comics have also occasionally gone down this route. The question now is, does
Lex work alongside the military or is this LuthorCorp more weapons-based than
what we may be used to seeing on the page?
Either way, it seems likely that the villain is going to be targeting Superman with
all manner of weapons...including a certain power suit if we're really lucky (it's
about time that join Lex on the big screen).
"I have been working out," Hoult previously said of his preparation for the role.
"There’s that bit in 'All-Star Superman' where he talks about his muscles being
real and hard work and all that. I kind of took that as a little bit of a fuel for the

Superman director James Gunn may not have shared a new look at David
Corenswet as the Man of Steel for Superman Day, but thanks to a new set
video, we do have what might well be our first glimpse of another DC Comics
hero that's set to make his big-screen debut in the upcoming DCU reboot.
After initially setting up at the Headlands Beach State Park in Cleveland, Ohio
last week, production has moved to Mentor, Ohio, and this video appears to
show a stunt sequence either being filmed or rehearsed.
While most of the footage is taken from a fair distance above the set, the
camera does zoom in towards the end, giving us a quick look at who is believed
to be X-Men: First Class actor Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific.
It's impossible to tell for certain, but the guy in the red shirt is a tall, well-built
Black man who launches himself into the air at one point, so there's a decent
chance this is indeed Curtis Holt using his T-Spheres to take down some bad
guys.
Superman will also star Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Isabela Merced as
Hawkgirl, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.
Production crews for the new “Superman” movie are setting up in Cleveland,
Ohio.
The Man of Steel is returning to his hometown with director James Gunn slated
to film scenes for DC’s new “Superman” movie in Cleveland. The production
received $11 million in Ohio Motion Picture Tax Credits from the State of Ohio.
Sets are being constructed in Public Square, with production expected to film in
Cleveland through July 16.

We got a first look at the new LexCorp logo earlier today, and as filming
continues on James Gunn's DCU Superman reboot in Cleveland, Ohio, these
videos from the Headlands Beach State Park set give us a glimpse of some
stunt rehearsals.
The footage was shot from quite a distance away, but we can make out several
figures practising combat moves in the sand.
Are these stunt performers or some of the actors from the movie? It's very
difficult to tell, but there's been speculation that the guy in the black shirt moving
into shot from the left might be David Corenswet (he certainly has the right
build).
At the very least, this confirms that we're going to see some super-powered
individuals engage in a hand-to-hand scrap.
Check out the videos at the links below, and let us know what you think in the
comments section.

Mikaela Hoover and Christopher McDonald have joined the cast of Gunn’s
Superman, the inaugural movie of DC Studios.
The duo will have company on the news desk. Earlier this week, The Hollywood
Reporter reported that Saturday Night Live alum Beck Bennett had joined the
production to play Steve Lombard, a blowhard and self-serving reporter who in
the comics serves as a foil to boy scout reporter Kent.
Superman, which has a release date of July 11, 2025, also has Nicholas Hoult
as villain Lex Luthor.
It will also feature a variety of DC heroes. Edi Gathegi is playing Mister Terrific,
Anthony Carrigan is Metamorpho, Isabela Merced is Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion is
Guy Gardner and María Gabriela de Faría is playing The Engineer.
Angela Boehm Casting has posted a casting call for current or retired Police
Officers to act as Extras for the upcoming “Superman” film.
Using the production codename “Genesis”, the casting call is described as “an
excellent opportunity for law enforcement professionals to participate in a film
production and gain on-set experience. Your presence will lend authenticity to
scenes requiring police presence.”
With production taking place in Ohio, anyone interested is asked to bring along
their own authentic uniform and gear.

Bennett, who spent 8 seasons on “Saturday Night Live” from 2013 to 2021, and
most recently appeared in Jerry Seinfeld’s “Unfrosted”, was spotted in a recent

June 6, 2024
On May 6, DC Studios released the first official look at David Corenswet in the
new Superman costume for the upcoming 2025 movie. Now, exactly one month
later, Superman Homepage contributor Michael Moreno gives his own analysis
of that photo.
By Michael Moreno
Throughout the decades Superman has been played by various actors – actors
who have played Superman on the big and small screen – actors such as
Christopher Reeve, Brandon Routh, Henry Cavill, Dean Cain, Kirk Alyn, George
Reeves and Tyler Hoechlin. These actors have all worn a variation of
Superman’s iconic and heroic super suit, a super suit that has inspired
generations of Superman fans, and will continue to inspire for a new generation
of Superman fans. Next year there will be a new actor to don the cape and
tights in director James Gunn’s “Superman” film, and this actor’s name is David
Corenswet. In this article, I will analyze and critique the new Superman’s super
suit.
As David is sitting, we see a hint of what most likely is the red trunks. The
trunks have not been seen on the big screen since Bryan Singer’s and Brandon
Routh’s interpretation of Superman in the 2006 film “Superman Returns”, and
have since been forgone in favor of Zack Snyder’s and Henry Cavill’s version of
Superman in all of Snyder’s Superman films “Man of Steel”, “Batman v
Superman: Dawn of Justice”, and in both versions of the “Justice League” film,
one of them known as “the Snyder cut”. With the trunks, there is a hint of a
yellow belt, but the shape of the belt buckle is unclear.
Moving up to the red cape, we see that it’s attached to the suit rather than being
tucked under the collar. Because David is sitting down, the cape is touching the
floor. While this doesn’t give an exact impression on how long it is, it is very
likely that the cape is a long one due to how much of it is touching the ground.
The material looks to be cloth, rather than leather or something CGI. It’s
possibly made out of a material of the type that a blanket would be made out of.
If this is correct, then James Gunn would have incorporated the lore of
Superman’s cape having been made from the blanket that he was wrapped in
as a baby, when his adoptive parents found him in his space craft.
Last but certainly not least, I look at the actor (David Corenswet) who is now the
new torch bearer of Superman’s legacy (yes that is a nod to the original title of
the movie prior to James changing it to “Superman”). Based on the image, I can
tell that David has worked out for the role. His chest and arms are muscular,
and he is sporting an S-curl on his forehead. While some have said that David
Corenswet looks like Henry Cavill, I have to be honest. I just don’t see the
resemblance. He looks like Superman. It’s the same with every Superman
actor. They don’t look like other Superman actors (with the exception of
Brandon Routh, who has an almost uncanny resemblance to Christopher
Reeve), but they all look like Superman. So while, for now, we may not know
how David’s acting will be like for the role, we know at least that he looks like
Superman.
While there have been some criticisms on the first official look at James Gunn’s
and David Corenswet’s Superman, I for one am grateful for this first glimpse at
the future for Superman. After almost a year of speculation about how the new
Superman will look, and after months of asking James Gunn for the first image
of his Superman, I say “Thank you James”.
As you'll see below, Saturday Night Live alum Beck Bennett was spotted
alongside the cast and crew, leaving many fans convinced he's playing the
Daily Planet's cocky sports columnist.
He may have just been visiting friends, of course, but the facial hair does feel
like a dead giveaway!
In the comics, Lombard - created by Cary Bates and Curt Swan in 1973's
Superman #264 - is a sports reporter and later sports anchor for the Daily
Planet, the same newspaper where Clark Kent and Lois Lane work.
Known for his brash and often arrogant personality, Steve is depicted as a
former professional football player who brings his jock mentality to the
newsroom. He is notorious for playing practical jokes on his colleagues,
especially Clark, whom he perceives as a mild-mannered and unassuming
reporter.
As for Bennett, the comedian was an SNL cast member between 2013 and
2021 and has appeared in the likes of Zoolander 2, The Angry Birds Movie, and
Bill & Ted Face the Music. If he is in Superman, we'd bet on it being a minor
role.
David Corenswet is playing the Man of Steel, while Rachel Brosnahan has been
tapped to star as Lois Lane.
The movie's supporting cast includes Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi
as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as
Metamorpho, Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Sara Sampaio as Eve
Teschmacher, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen,
Pruitt Taylor Vince as Pa Kent, Neva Howell as Ma Kent, and Nicholas Hoult as
Lex Luthor.
Milly Alcock is also expected to make a cameo appearance as Supergirl before
taking flight in her own movie, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
Clark Kent at the Daily Planet. That's the one thing I want that I've missed the
most.
While Henry Cavill’s Clark Kent did get hired by The Daily Planet at the end of
Man of Steel, and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice showed him working
as a reporter, that aspect of his life didn’t get a ton of attention. That’s not to say
Superman will rectify that for the Clark David Corenswet is playing, but Clogher
is hopeful that’ll be the case. Next, Campbell mentioned her satisfaction with
Rachel Brosnahan being cast as Lois Lane:
I think Rachel Brosnahan is such good casting as Lois. My fervent hope is that
Lois gets almost as big as spotlight or as big as spotlight is Clark/Superman.
She's fantastic.
She’s not alone in feeling that way, as our own Riley Utley declared Brosnahan
playing Lois to be perfect casting when the news initially came out. Then Wyatt
mentioned both being interested to see how these versions of Clark and Lois do
paired together, saying:
I've been excited to see her in the promo being played as, like, the co-lead.
Yeah, I'm really excited for those two. I’m excited for Clark Kent and Lois Lane.
People got mad at us because they're like one of America's great screen
romances. They're one of pop culture's great couples. So that is what I'm most
excited for. She's so good. The Lois casting is unbelievable. David Corenswet,
so handsome. I'm excited to see them love each other and maybe get torn apart
dramatically.
Now that we’ve covered the creative minds behind My Adventures with
Superman, let’s shift over to two of the show’s leading trio of actors.
I'm open to anything. Obviously throughout the years, we have seen different
iterations of Superman, Jimmy, Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, all these fun characters
and villains. So I'm just curious and open to seeing how these actors portray
these characters. Because everybody throughout the years has brought
themselves to all these DC characters. Yeah, I’m just excited for Gunn’s vision
for this Superman.
Hey, there’s nothing wrong with just waiting to see how James Gunn does with
one of pop culture’s most famous superheroes. Lee echoed Sahid’s thoughts,
as well as joined in on giving Rachel Brosnahan props:
Alice: Yeah, me too. I'm just excited to see what iteration, what vibe it's gonna
be. And Rachel Brosnahan is awesome, so I'm sure she's gonna bring baddie
vibes to Lois Lane as usual. But yeah, it'll be so cool, also knowing our show
exists and seeing this other version of it. Yeah, I'm excited to see it, for sure.
Superman is James Gunn’s third DC project under his belt, having previously
helmed The Suicide Squad and the first season of Peacemaker. Although
Superman is still rolling cameras, Gunn shared that filming has also begun on
Season 2 of the latter TV series, which can be streamed with a Max
subscription. As if that wasn’t enough to keep him busy, he’s also co-running
DC Studios with Peter Safran, and together they came up with the opening
“Gods and Monsters” slate of DC Universe movies and TV shows.
Superman flies into theaters on July 11, 2025, and new episodes of My
Adventures with Superman premiere Sundays at midnight ET on Adult Swim.

As filming for James Gunn's Superman continues, production has moved to
LaGrange, Georgia, which will be the location for the scenes taking place at the
Kent Farm.
No matter where his adventures took him, the Man of Steel has always returned
home to see his folks in all previous Superman-based movies and TV shows,
and it seems the upcoming DCU reboot will be no different.
While they don't reveal very much, the first photos from the set have now been
shared online. We're not sure if one of these buildings is the actual Kent home,
as they may simply be other structures on or around the property.
"Pa" and "Ma" Kent will be played by Pruitt Taylor Vince and Neva Howell.
Gunn has also taken to Instagram to share another behind-the-scenes photo.
Though it doesn't look like any of these guys are in-costume here, the shot

While many are eager to see how the Pearl actor will interpret the character of
The Last Son of Krypton in Gunn's Superman, a significant portion of very vocal
Snyder fans have responded in a way that's both amusing and revealing. The
internet has been inundated with memes about this upcoming DC movie, many
of which pay tribute to Cavill's portrayal of the Man of Steel. And this blend of
homage and playful protest encapsulates the distinct fan culture surrounding
the Snyderverse.
Snyder diehard @KMB_1186 shared fan art they found on Vero depicting a
stylized take on Henry Cavill, replacing David Corenswet in Gunn’s reveal
image, suited up once again – albeit in a much more comic-accurate suit. The
art, which you can see below, was accompanied by the following caption:
Adding another layer to the tapestry of fan reactions, superhero super fan
@restoreZSJL contributed a meme that encapsulates the sentimental longing
for Henry Cavill's portrayal of Superman. The meme uses an image of
Wolverine from the X-Men: The Animated Series, shown nostalgically looking at
a photo, cleverly edited to feature Cavill’s Kal-L. The caption "I miss him so
much. #HenryCavillSuperman #RestoreTheSnyderVerse" succinctly expresses
the deep emotional connection and yearning for the return of Cavill's iteration of
the character.
As the debate rages on over the new direction of Superman and the broader
DC universe, fans continue to advocate passionately for a return to Snyder’s
original vision. X (formerly Twitter) user @SnyderQueen_ echoed this sentiment
vividly, criticizing the current offerings from Warner Bros:
Now we've seen the burnt food WB is trying to serve, lets continue to remind
them what the fans want to see. On Nov 17 we trend for Zack & Henry 💪 🔥

In a new interview with GQ, celebrity trainer Paolo Mascitti is revealing the tips
and tricks he used to turn the lean David Corenswet into a jacked, powerhouse
ahead of filming on the DCU's Superman.
Said Mascitti, "This is a James Gunn film, and he has a specific vision of the
entire project. David had been working out intensively before I met him, but he’s
naturally a very lean guy. He’s 6’6” but we wanted to put more bulk on him. He
probably went from 200lbs to 240lbs, but some of that mass will be shed as he
continues to tone up.”
He revealed that he and Corenswet had very intense training sessions for about
5 months before filming started on Superman. However, even though the
cameras are now rolling, they're still training.
"He’s very busy right now so we’re only fitting in three or four sessions a week,
but he’s still working out for two hours a day...He is Superman. James Gunn is
amazing at casting people, and this guy was born to be Superman. Ask any
cast or crew member, David is the nicest guy, and I think, the perfect
Superman.”
The interview eventually took a more humorous turn as Mascitti revealed that
Corenswet's "kryptonite" during training was cereal.
"Half of his training had to be done over FaceTime and half in person as he
wasn’t in Los Angeles all the time. We’d speak remotely and I’d ask him about
his diet and he’d be eating cereal! He’d ask What’s wrong with cereal!? But
that’s why he’s the perfect Superman, he has a realistic expectation of himself
and the role."
In terms of how they added on size for Corenswet, Mascitti stated that David's
training started with a caloric surplus and big, traditional compound movements.
They started with 4 sets of 10 reps, upping the weight with each subsequent
set. An example workout would be:
Earlier this week, James Gunn, DC Comics, and Warner Bros. unleashed the
first official image of the Superman suit, likely due to the fact that filming is set
to leave the tightly-guarded confines of the Trilith Studios in Fayetteville,
Georgia and film on-location in Macon.
In addition to the on-location filming in Macon, Georgia, the cast and crew will
also be traveling to Ohio soon, where they'll likely shoot at a site that could
potentially be used for the Hall of Justice.
It was also recently revealed that Gun will be pulling double-duty over the next
few months, as he'll also be helming a few episodes of Peacemaker season 2,
which is also filming at Trillith.
The James Gunn-directed (and written) film stars David Corenswet as Kal-
El/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nathan Fillion as Guy
Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister
Terrific.
Rounding out the cast are Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord, María Gabriela de
Faría as Angela Spica/The Engineer, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Wendell
Pierce as Perry White, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, and Anthony
Carrigan as Metamorpho.
Additionally, Nicholas Hoult has been confirmed by Gunn to portray Lex Luthor
in the film. Milly Alcock was also recently cast as Supergirl and is also expected
(but unconfirmed) to appear, as well.
More recently Pruitt Taylor Vince was cast as Jonathan 'Pa' Kent, while Neva
Howell signed on to play Martha 'Ma' Kent.
Currently set for release on July 11, 2025, Superman: Legacy Superman is the
first film in Gunn's reboot of the DCEU.
Why the first in-costume photo of David Corenswet as the Man of Steel,
revealed today on director James Gunn's Instagram, has purists cheering a pair
of red briefs.
By William Goodman
Look, up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s our official first look at the
Superman costume! After a few months of waiting—and with roughly 14 months
still left to go until the new Superman movie opens on July 25, 2025—DC
Studios head and Superman helmer James Gunn revealed the first look at the
costume for David Corenswet’s take on the Man of Steel, via an image of
Corenswet's Superman pulling his boots on in preparation to defend the world
from the unspecified cosmic threat visible through the window of his
apartment— and the biggest takeaway is that the trunks are back.
Trunks are a bit of a contested costume design element among comic book
fans. Underpants worn outside tights were originally signifiers of strength
donned by stage-bound bodybuilders and athletes in the 1930s and harkened
back to the original comic book adventures of Superman. Before he flew and
fought aliens, Superman lifted bridges, wrestled elephants, and stopped trains
— all activities more in line with strongmen of the times. So the trunks made
sense, as a visual nod to carnival-style feats of strength and daring—and then
they stuck around, for decades, even as the character evolved. Both
Christopher Reeve and Brandon Routh rocked trunks during their tenures as
Supes before Henry Cavill and Zack Snyder jettisoned them for 2013’s Man of
Steel.
It may sound ridiculous, but the trunks are an ideological litmus test. Gunn's
decision to go with the trunks is a literalization of his desire to return to the
classical conception of Superman as a Big Blue Boy Scout, saving kittens from
trees and helping the common folk, rather than the tortured Christ-like figure
Superman became in the Snyderverse era. Along with the trunks come a few
different design elements pulled from other sartorial sources. The (previously
teased) S-symbol evokes costume designs from Mark Waid and Alex Ross'
famed 1996 miniseries Kingdom Come, in which an older Superman and other
heroes of his generation returned to action after decades away, while the mock
neck and textural elements on the sleeves and pants feel very similar to 2011’s
New 52 reboot suit, which also excluded trunks. The mock neck is a bolder
choice for a superhero costume, so we asked GQ's style team for their take on
it. “We are longtime mock-neck supporters here at GQ, so that’s a plus on my
end,” said style editor Yang-Yi Goh, who also notes that exterior underpants
have been having a moment lately.
It’s also worth noting that Corenswet’s pose is similar to how artist Frank Quietly
often renders the character in All-Star Superman, his acclaimed 2005-2008
collaboration with writer Grant Morrison. All-Star is universally hailed as one the
best recent takes on the character, a streamlined modern story that still
managed to harken back to the foundational, traditional conception of
Superman; back in March 2023, when Gunn confirmed that he'd be directing
the next Superman film, he posted a Quitely image of the Man of Steel from the
cover of All-Star Superman #1 on his Instagram.
Gunn stated on Instagram today that the new costume image was shot entirely
in camera by his longtime set photographer Jessica Miglio, which means
whatever that giant alien orb in the background is, it's part of the film in some
capacity. Is the creature there as part of a scheme by Lex Luthor (Nicholas
Hoult)? Or is it some other intergalactic threat? Either way, this won’t be the last
time we’ll likely get a costume reveal, as we still have plenty of other heroes to
see in Superman, including Kal-El’s cousin, Supergirl.

SUMMARY
David Corenswet's Superman suit breaks tradition with a lived-in, realistic
appearance, avoiding common tight, CGI-heavy trends.
James Gunn's grounded debut of Superman captures a human moment,
showcasing Clark Kent's Kansas boy heart over flashy heroics.
Gunn's approach to Superman's visual debut offers a refreshing departure from
overuse of CGI in big-budget superhero movies.
The world finally knows what David Corenswet's titular hero will look like in
Superman, and the DCU's lead-off superhero is already bucking a common
super-suit trend. Ever since James Gunn announced the first few years of DC
Universe projects would start on the big screen with the then-titled Superman:
Legacy (now simply called Superman), debates have raged over what exactly
Clark's outfit should be. Finally, Gunn has revealed the first image of Corenswet
in his full Superman outfit, which sports a mix of apparent inspirations both old
and new.
While almost every superhero has an important relationship with their costume
and overall visual design, few pairings inspire as heated opinions as Superman
and his red and blue get-up. From the classic simpleness of Christopher
Reeves' 1978 Superman franchise to Henry Cavill's more alien design,
Superman has looked markedly different from actor to actor. However,
Corenswet's unique Superman reveal is bold and manages to avoid a
frustrating trend all too common in modern superhero movies.
Gunn posted Corenswet in his full Superman outfit on Threads and Instagram
early on May 6, and while the design has been met with general positivity,
there's also been a bit of surprise and confusion about the composition of the
photograph and some details of the suit itself. For lack of a better phrase,
Superman's suit looks lived in. Not only is it dirty, but it's also not a painted-on-
tight mystery of physics mysteriously clinging to Corenswet's body.
Likely anticipating questions about the suit's fit, Gunn clarified in his Threads
post that the image is entirely "in-camera." What this means is that everything
seen by viewers is what the camera registered, devoid of touch-ups or digital
alterations (the Metropolis skyline and energy blast is likely a large, wrap-
around digital screen often used in film production). Corenswet's suit has bulk
and weight to it, and wrinkles adorn his arms, shoulders, and torso. The cape
hangs down to the ground without billowing. The fabric actually looks real.
While the unique approach to Superman's visual debut likely won't be for
everyone, it stands in contrast to a disappointing trend in big-budget superhero
movies. While practical suits can be incredibly challenging to make and film, the
over-use of CGI often detracts from the overall experience. Recently, The Flash
faced criticism for its overall visual effects, but notably for the bizarre, uncanny
valley effect of seeing Ezra Miller in a suit over-altered by special effects.
However, the MCU has also earned notable and often justified criticism for poor
CGI taking the place of more tangible feeling practical suits and sets.

More than just Clark's suit, though, the entire Superman reveal is surprisingly
grounded. Many likely and reasonably expected Superman's debut image to be
overly heroic. Perhaps Clark would be flying through the sky, brightly lit by the
sun in front of a clear Metropolis sky. Instead, Corenswet's Clark is shown in a
surprisingly human moment, sitting down and putting on his boots.
While less action-packed or vibrant than some may like, this picture highlights
the best part of Clark Kent. Despite being an alien and one of, if not the most
powerful beings on the planet, he's got the heart of a boy from Kansas and is
perhaps more human than anyone. While Superman's official marketing
materials will likely be as bombastic as other heroes', Gunn's first look is a great
sign that he knows what makes Superman special.

SUMMARY
David Corenswet's first official image wearing the full Superman suit suggests
that James Gunn's movie is focusing on the hero's humanity rather than on his
godlike persona.
Superman's humility and values, rather than just his superhuman abilities, are
what makes him special.
James Gunn's down-to-earth approach to Superman could set a standard for
the DCU's heroes, emphasizing their relatability and kindness.
James Gunn's first official glimpse at David Corenswet's full Superman suit is a
great sign for the DCU's adaptation of the Man of Steel. Expectations for every
movie and show in James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Universe are soaring,
but Gunn's upcoming Superman movie especially so. Henry Cavill's Superman,
despite the DCEU's issues, left the bar quite high, and Superman will lay the
foundations for the whole DCU with its plot, cast, tone, and setting. With dozens
of projects already in motion for the DCU's "Gods and Monsters" chapter,
Superman needs to guarantee a good reception.
First impressions truly matter, and Superman's full DCU suit reveal is no
exception. James Gunn heightened anticipation with the chest logo's reveal and
various posts and comments on social media hinting at different parts of the
costume. On May 6, 2024, Gunn posted an image of David Corenswet's
Superman wearing the suit as he gets ready for battle. Unlike previous first
glimpses at live-action Superman suits like Henry Cavill's in Man of Steel and
Brandon Routh's in Superman Returns and The CW's Crisis on Infinite Earths,
David Corenswet's first Superman image shows a visibly tired and battered
hero.
Superman is synonymous with hope and power. It would have been sensible for
David Corenswet's Superman to be shown flying or posing heroically in
Superman's first official image. Instead, the Man of Steel appears weary, bent
over, putting his boots on. Superman's suit is also damaged and dirty, and
unlike every other live-action iteration, it's thick and prone to wrinkling. In short,
the DCU's Superman is presented to the world as a human being rather than as
an untouchable deity.
Despite having the possibility to ignore conflicts that don't require his help or
solving every problem by brute force, Superman approaches his job as a
responsible duty he must fulfill, like any humble worker does. Superman's first
official image perfectly represents this aspect of the character, with Superman
preparing himself for battle despite his exhaustion. He might be faster than a
speeding bullet and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, but he also
grows frustrated and feels personally affected by his battles.
The DCEU captured Superman's struggle to fit in quite nicely. Henry Cavill's
Superman was depicted as a godlike figure who insisted on saving a world that
judged him and rejected him, which is a valid take on one of the many dramatic
elements of Superman's history. James Gunn's Superman seems to explore a
similar struggle from the opposite angle. Instead of an unstoppable god trying to
be human, David Corenswet might be depicted as a human being facing the
trials of a god.
In the DCEU, Henry Cavill's Superman spent very little time as Clark Kent , and
his job at the Daily Planet was mostly glossed over.
Superheroes' world-saving exploits can age quickly, but their values and morals
are timeless. Regardless of whether Superman is fighting Darkseid, stopping
Lex Luthor, or rescuing a cat from a tree, it's his willingness to help that sticks
with viewers and readers. Emphasizing Superman's generosity and humility
could be the basis for his DCU arc, which could help avoid the age-old
challenge of making the Man of Steel relatable for the general audience.
Beyond James Gunn's Superman, gentleness and relatability could also be the
overarching theme across the whole DC Universe.
David Corenswet's physical transformation as Superman was revealed through
a workout image shared by his trainer.
Corenswet's muscular physique is comparable to Henry Cavill's Superman,
establishing him as a physically imposing Superman.
Corenswet's height advantage over Cavill at 6'4'' enhances his portrayal of
Superman in James Gunn's upcoming film.
The first look at David Corenswet as the lead hero in James Gunn's Superman
has been revealed, and now a new look at the actor's impressive physical
transformation to play the DC Universe's Kal-El has been shared. Despite
having started filming in February, Gunn managed to keep the Superman suit a
secret until now, with the reveal likely coming ahead of outdoor filming, so the
first look at David Corenswet's Superman did not come through set photos.
Corenswet went through quite the workout routine to achieve his Superman
look, and a new photo spotlights his physical journey.
On Instagram, the personal trainer of the Superman cast, Paolo Mascitti, shared
a workout image of Corenswet showing off his Superman physique.
Corenswet has clearly bulked up for the role, with the actor flexing his new
Superman muscles in the workout image. Mascitti had previously shared the
physical transformations that other actors in the Superman cast had gone
through, including Mr. Terrific actor Edi Gathegi and The Engineer star María
Gabriela de Faría. Corenswet's physique is bound to be compared to that of
other Superman actors.
As his workout photo clearly shows, Corenswet has packed on a lot of muscle
to portray DC's Man of Steel. The actor's physique is most akin to the latest
actor to don the Superman mantle in theaters. Corenswet has been compared
to the DCEU Superman actor Henry Cavill since he was first announced to be
on the run for the DCU Superman role. However, this new workout image
cements that comparison, as no other Superman actor has bulked up as much
as the two.
Corenswet's physique is also impressive due to him sharing the record for the
tallest Superman actor with perhaps the very best to ever play the role.
Christopher Reeve was also 6'4'', just like Corenswet. However, different from
the DCU's Man of Steel, Reeve always sported a leaner look during his four
movies as Superman. Other impressive Superman actors in the physical
department include Superman Returns' Brandon Routh, who looked even
bigger in the Arrowverse's Crisis on Infinite Earths than in his solo film, and
Smallville's Tom Welling. Corenswet's Superman debuts next year.
Although the first looks at other members of Superman's ensemble cast are
also anticipated - such as Lois Lane, Hawkgirl, Guy Gardner, and Lex Luthor -
none were positioned as important as Corenswet's debut. In May 2024, James
Gunn took to social media to give DCU audiences what they wanted, revealing
the first image from the Superman movie that highlighted Corenswet's suit. With
much to dissect and discuss, the discourse around Superman has been
focused on one specific aspect of the costume that breaks 46 years of tradition
regarding the Son of Krypton.
David Corenswet's Superman Costume Is The First Live-Action Version To
Have A Collar
Corenswet's Superman Has A Notable Collar
James Gunn's Superman hits theaters on July 11, 2025, just over 14 months
after the first suit for Corenswet's Superman was revealed.
New 52 Superman DC
Interestingly, the DCU's Superman suit is primarily taking inspiration from the
New 52 era of DC Comics that ran between 2011 and 2016. The suit seems to
be a blending of three iterations of Superman from the comics, with the collar
and seam lines found on Corenswet's costume being taken directly from the
New 52 design. The other elements are taken from the classic Superman suit,
such as the trunks, high red boots, and bright colors, while the Superman
symbol emulates the "Kingdom Come" version of the character.
This [collar], combined with the seam lines scattered throughout the suit, saw
many criticize the New 52 Superman look as they felt it was overdesigned...
Concerning the New 52 specifically, this suit was divisive upon its reveal. Many
did not care for how Superman's suit had become more militaristic, with the
bulkiness of the suit giving it an armored feel. This, combined with the seam
lines scattered throughout the suit, saw many criticize the New 52 Superman
look as they felt it was overdesigned and thus fit closer with a video game
version of the character such as Injustice, not matching the usual tone of Clark
in DC Comics.

Predictably, the first look at David Corenswet's Superman suit from the James
Gunn-directed reboot is going viral on search engines and social media.
However, while most comic book fans are focusing on the nature and potential
origin of the costume (whether it's something Kryptonian or a Ma Kent original)
it's worth noting that there seems to be a gigantic planet/ship/alien attacking
Metropolis in the background.
Given that James Gunn has asserted that the main (and potentially only) villain
in Superman is Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor, it's something of a headscratcher to
see the giant object attacking the city.
Below, we'll examine some possible identities for the floating object but we'll
also caution that this could be an original creation for the film.
Sun-Eater
Brainiac Ship
Image
This is likely high on the wishlist of many DC Comics fans. Though the image
lacks the distinguishable tentacles that typically adorn Brainiac's ships, various
versions of the Kryptonian computer's spacecraft have been known to have
retractable tentacles...As mentioned above, there aren't many villains better
than Mongul for the Man of Steel to face on the big screen, however, Brainiac is
one of them.
We're taking a closer look at yesterday's SUPERMAN suit reveal, delving into
what it tells us about the reboot, DC Studios' divisive design changes, and even
the movie's possible villain. Check it out...

After first teasing the costume at the end of February, yesterday saw us finally
get a proper look at David Corenswet's Man of Steel in DC Studios and James
Gunn's SUPERMAN. Unfortunately, the response has been mixed.
That's typically the case with any suit reveal, but the image makes some
noteworthy missteps in its presentation that have left some fans concerned with
the creative direction of the DCU.
In this feature, we take a look at those and what the image itself reveals about
SUPERMAN. From a possible villain tease to the suit's finer, possibly MCU-
inspired finer details, we're breaking it down for you in as much detail as
possible.
So, to find out what we've discovered, simply click on that "Next"/"View List"
button below...
Either way, it's a fan-pleasing addition and arguably an upgrade over the sparse
belt design/lack of trunks when Henry Cavill was still playing the character.
This look can work on screen; Superman Returns and, more recently,
Superman & Lois, have proven that. We're sure many of you will have been
overjoyed by the presence of the hero's classic hair curl too.
.
4. The New 52 Inspiration
While the red trunks are present, the rest of Superman's suit is heavily inspired
by the character's appearance during DC Comics' New 52 relaunch.
There are minor changes, but he has a collar, the same style cape, and lines
across the suit that give it a little more texture. As for the previously revealed
chest logo, we're sure the Kingdom Come fans among you will be instantly
familiar with the design.
Gunn has reteamed with The Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.
3 costume designer Judianna Makovsky for SUPERMAN. We're sure you won't
be surprised because it 100% feels like a design we could see in the MCU.
The effects used in this first look are atrocious. Where the red of the cape
attaches to the blue part of Superman's suit, there are obvious signs of
Photoshop and something about the front of the collar and even Corenswet's
right eyelid also looks off.
Then, there's the background. It should have been easy to get this looking
flawless when it's a mere still. Instead, the glowing orb is oddly flat and perhaps
even AI-generated. We can only hope it isn't indicative of what we'll see in the
movie itself.
Oh, and could Metropolis look any more bland than it does here?
As we first suggested yesterday, this looks a lot like Warworld and Gunn has
previously shared cryptic clues on social media suggesting he has an interest in
the villain who commands that ship: Mongul.
He seeks domination and control over other civilizations, often clashing with
heroes like Superman and the Green Lantern Corps. Driven by a desire for
power and glory, and willing to commit any atrocity to achieve his goals, he's a
threat we could get on board with seeing in SUPERMAN.
We respect Gunn for trying something new; rather than posting a typical
Superman pose or epic flying shot, he dreamed up an image which reminds us
that Kal-El is just like us, putting on one boot at a time. The execution, however,
is flawed.
It's already generating unflattering memes, while the pose means the costume
appears creased and ill-fitting (almost what you'd expect from a set photo). And
why does Supes appear to be ignoring the mass destruction taking place
outside his window?
This is not the good start to the new DCU we hoped for after the disaster that
was the DCEU...

James Gunn’s first official look at David Corenswet in 2025’s “Superman” brings
a new version of the Man of Steel and his iconic costume to the big screen.
Hollywood has been depicting Superman in the live-action format for 76 years
and counting, as the first actor to assume the superhero role onscreen was Kirk
Alyn in the 1948 serial movie “Superman.”
Since then, a handful of actors have brought Superman to life at the movies and
on television screens over the decades. Corenswet has a long legacy to live up
to, from Christopher Reeve’s iconic turn in the 1970s to Henry Cavill’s grittier
Man of Steel in Zack Snyder’s DC Universe. Back in 2019, Corenswet
told Entertainment Weekly that his biggest acting goal was “definitely to play
Superman.”
“I would love to see somebody do an upbeat, throwback [take on Superman],”
he said at the time. “I love the Henry Cavill dark and gritty take, but I would love
to see the next one be very bright and optimistic.”
Given that Corenswet appears sullen and wearing a dirtied-up Superman suit
in the first look at James Gunn’s movie, it appears his Man of Steel might still
retain some grittiness. Gunn previously told Variety that his Superman actor
had “to be someone who has all the humanity that Superman has but he’s also
an alien. It’s gotta be somebody who has the kindness and the compassion that
Superman has and be somebody who you want to give a hug.”
Check out the evolution of Superman’s costume in film and television (and the
actors who wore the cape) in the list below.
Dean Cain brought Superman to life in the 1990s as the star of the ABC series
“Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman,” which ran for four seasons
and 88 episodes from 1993 to 1997. Starring opposite Cain was Teri Hatcher as
Lois Lane.

Brandon Routh played Superman in the 2006 comic book movie “Superman
Returns,” which followed the Man of Steel as he returns to Earth after a
prolonged absence and reconnects with Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth) and faces
off against Lex Luthor (Kevin Spacey). Although Routh earned acclaim for
channeling Christopher Reeve, the film nosedived at the box office with just
$391 million worldwide and did not lead to a new franchise for the actor. Routh
reprised this iteration of Superman on episodes of The CW comic book series
“The Flash,” “Legends of Tomorrow” and “Batwoman.”

verse, starting with his own 2013 standalone movie “Man of Steel” and
continuing with 2016’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and 2017’s
“Justice League.” He intended to return as the superhero after reprising
Superman in the post-credits scene of 2022’s “Black Adam,” which set up a
future in the DC Universe where he’d go toe-to-toe against Dwayne Johnson.
Just over a month later, Warner Bros. and DC Studios announced Gunn and
Safran as the latter company’s new bosses. The duo were tasked with
overhauling the DC Universe on the big screen, and their plan included bringing
in a new Superman actor to anchor their universe. It was an especially tough
blow for Cavill, who had exited his starring role on Netflix’s “The Witcher”
presumably because his future appeared to include more Superman projects
prior to Gunn and Safran’s hiring.
Henry Cavill’s hero dons a specialized black version of the iconic superhero’s
suit in “Zack Snyder’s Justice League,” the four-hour version of the at-first
maligned superhero team-up film that gave its filmmaker more creative control.
The different suit is one of the most prominent differences between the final
acts of the two versions of “Justice League.”
Nicolas Cage ('The Flash')
Photo : Warner Bros.
Nicolas Cage made a surprise cameo appearance as the Man of Steel in 2022’s
“The Flash,” closing the loop on a role that he was supposed to play for director
Tim Burton in a failed Superman movie that never got off the ground. The duo
were supposed to make “Superman Lives” in 1998 from a script by Kevin Smith.
The plot focused on Superman’s fight against Doomsday. Despite spending
over $30 million on the film’s casting and pre-production, Warner Bros. pulled
the plug on “Superman Lives” due to creative differences.
“If you really wanted to know what I was going do with that character, look at my
performance in ‘City of Angels,’” Cage once told USA Today about what fans
could’ve expected from his iteration of Superman. “I was supposed [to play]
Clark Kent after that and I was already developing this alien otherness playing
this angel. That is a perfect example of the tonality you would’ve gotten for Kal-
El and for Clark Kent: Clark would’ve been a little more amusing but Kal-El had
the sensitivity and the goodness and the vulnerability and all those feelings that
were kind of angelic and also terrifying.”
David Corenswet ('Superman')
David Corenswet is making his debut as the Man of Steel in James Gunn’s
2025 tentpole “Superman,” previously titled “Superman: Legacy.” The movie is
kicking off a brand new DC Universe that will span movies, television series and
video games. Gunn is overseeing the DC Universe along with Peter Safran.
Corenswet is getting the big break of a lifetime as the star of “Superman,” which
marks his first time leading a major Hollywood tentpole film. The 30-year-old
actor is best known for his supporting roles in two Ryan Murphy-created Netflix
series, “The Politician” and “Hollywood.” His most notable film role prior to
“Superman” was in “Pearl,” the Ti West-directed horror movie starring Mia Goth.
“Superman” is set to open in theaters July 11, 2025, from Warner Bros.

Kent pulls on his red boots, dressed in his Superman costume, ready for action.

With a higher collar and suit design reminiscent of the New 52 Superman comic
books, the new costume does appear to feature a yellow belt and red trunks.
Previously known as “Superman: Legacy”, the cast of the film, now simply titled

The new Superman suit has officially debuted. As filming on James Gunn‘s
“Superman” (formerly “Superman: Legacy”) continues, the writer-director shared
to his Threads account a first look at star David Corenswet in costume as the
Man of Steel. The first thing fans might notice is the suit is quite dirty and
weathered, which suggests Superman will be doing plenty of down and dirty
fighting in the movie.
Gunn added on Threads that the first look photo “was taken on set by Jess
Miglio and was entirely in-camera.”
Corenswet is getting the big break of a lifetime as the star of “Superman,” which
marks his first time leading a major Hollywood tentpole film. The 30-year-old
actor is best known for his supporting roles in two Ryan Murphy-created Netflix
series, “The Politician” and “Hollywood.” His most notable film role prior to
“Superman” was probably “Pearl,” the Ti West-directed horror movie starring
Mia Goth.
Starring opposite Corenswet in “Superman” is “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”
Emmy winner Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Nicholas Hoult is taking on the
role of Superman’s infamous villain Lex Luthor, while Gunn’s cast also includes
Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), Edi Gathegi
(Mister Terrific), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl) and
more.
“It was pretty amazing,” Brosnahan said about the table read. “Some of us met
for the first time. Some of us got to see each other again. It was amazing to
hear the script out loud. As with all of these films, there’s a lot of action
sequences and things. So to hear the pacing of the film and to get to hear these
characters occupied by the actors who play them is really fun. It’s also a great
group. You can’t ask for more than that when doing something like this.”
“I have always loved Lois Lane,” the actor added. “She’s smart, ambitious and
can be funny. She knows she’s the smartest person in the room more often
than not. When the opportunity came on…I’m such a fan of James Gunn from
afar…we’re still finding these characters. We haven’t started shooting yet. You’ll
meet the final version of them.”

David Corenswet is super, man! Don't believe this severe dad-joke pun? Then
check him out as Hollywood's next big-screen strongman from Krypton.
Corenswet arrives in the first look at Superman, the film written and directed by
James Gunn that will anchor the newly made-over DC cinematic universe.
Gunn, who also leads DC Studios with Peter Safran, showed a mere glimpse of
the costume while announcing the start of filming on Superman in February. But
now we have our full look.
Superman (2025)
David Corenswet debuts as the Man of Steel in 'Superman'. DC
"The above photo was taken on set by Jess Miglio and was entirely in-camera,"
Gunn wrote in a post on Threads Monday.
The filmmaker has been actively shooting down rumors about the film left and
right, often on social media platform Threads. When production began, photos
started circulating online with the apparent leaked look at Corenswet in his full
costume. However, Gunn was quick to confirm those were doctored.
The Superman cast also includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas
Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Milly Alcock as Supergirl,
Nathan Fillion as the Earth-based Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced
as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho,
Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, María

Despite an ensemble full of various DC comics staples, Gunn reiterated in a
recent post on Threads for skeptical fans, "The primary protagonist of
Superman is, shockingly, Superman. The main villain of Superman is,
shockingly, Lex Luthor."
If 2023 proved anything, it's that the DCEU desperately needed to be rebooted.
Movies like Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, and Aquaman and the Lost
Kingdom were disasters, and those all-important box office numbers confirmed
fans had reached the end of their tether with the franchise.
Not everyone has been happy about that, of course, particularly as it's meant
saying goodbye to some fan-favourite actors. Man of Steel star Henry Cavill is
near the top of the list and his stint as Superman ended in less-than-perfect
circumstances.
After his Black Adam cameo, Warner Bros. gave the actor a green light to
announce his return as Superman. A couple of months later, Cavill was fired
from the role because Gunn, now heading up DC Studios, wanted to cast a new
Kal-El for his reboot.
We've since learned the SUPERMAN helmer had plans to tell a story about the
Man of Tomorrow as far back as 2021. This has somehow led to a conspiracy
theory surfacing that claims Gunn always planned to oust Cavill and take over
the DCEU..
"I don’t quite understand how that fits," the DC Studios co-CEO said,
responding to a fan on Threads. "Aside from the fact I had no interest in running
DC until Peter decided to do it with me so he could do the exec stuff [and] I
could focus on creative, when I was hired to write Superman it was always
intended as & pitched as a new Superman story."
"So why would I lie about not planning that at the Squad premiere which would
have amounted to the same thing at the end of the day? How does this
particular conspiracy theory make sense?"
Gunn continued fending off some wild accusations which stemmed from Nathan
Fillion accidentally saying he'd been cast as Guy Gardner at The Suicide Squad
premiere when, in reality, it happened at the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
one.
The whole thing is pretty bizarre and there's clearly no truth to Gunn having a
secret masterplan to make this franchise his own. However, not helping matters
is the fact he's bringing back many of the actors he worked with in the DCEU, all
while moving on from the likes of Cavill and Ben Affleck (who, like Zack Snyder,
have a rabid fanbase).
David Corenswet is playing the Man of Steel, while Rachel Brosnahan has been
tapped to star as Lois Lane.
Among the information Howell was able to share was the revelation that the film
looks to wrap filming “end of July”. Having started on February 29, that would be
a total of 5 months worth of production.
As for David Corenswet as an actor and a person, Howell says he’s “so down to
earth and just a sweet guy,” adding that he “embodies the character so well”
and he’s eager for fans to see for themselves when the film is released in 2025.
Although he’s unable to divulge any details about the Superman costume,
Howell did say that it “is the most mobile of any of the other suits I’ve worn”.
Having worked as a stunt double for Chris Hemsworth in “Thor in Love and
Thunder” and as Master Chief in “Halo,” Howell says that being Superman’s
stunt double is the “mountain top” of his career to date, and that it “feels like a
very, very cool experience”.
As for the movie as a whole, Howell says that it “feels like the start of a new era.
The things James [Gunn is] doing with it are very interesting.”
Previously known as “Superman: Legacy”, the cast of the film, now simply titled

Hawkgirl actress Isabela Merced opens up about working with Nathan Fillion's
Green Lantern and the other DC Universe superheroes in James Gunn's
Superman movie. With the DCEU movie timeline officially concluded, Warner
Bros. Discovery is actively working on their new superhero universe in the form
of the DC Universe from Gunn and Peter Safran. The first film that is currently in
production from DC Studios is Superman, featuring David Corenswet as the
new live-action Man of Steel.
How Hawkgirl, Green Lantern & Mr. Terrific Fit Into James Gunn's Superman
Movie
The New DC Universe Has Multiple Superheroes Already Established In-
Universe
While exact plot details haven't been revealed yet, the Superman movie cast
also includes Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, alongside Guy Gardner,
Hawkgirl, and Mister Terrific. It's unclear if any other DC heroes will make their
way into Gunn's Superman movie, as there hasn't been any new casting for
other roles. Even though there has been concern that there are a lot of
superheroes in what is meant to be Superman's first DC Universe solo film,
Gunn has made it clear that they are there in a supporting capacity.
One of the points that Gunn has been stressing about Superman is that this will
introduce a DC Universe where superheroes are already established. That is
why Clark Kent is already going to be operating as the Man of Tomorrow but
during his early days. Having Hawkgirl, Metamorpho, Green Lantern, and Mister
Terrific helps visualize the world of heroes existing around Superman already in
Chapter 1, "Gods and Monsters." That is also why characters like The Engineer
- played by Maria Gabriela De Faria - from The Authority will also show up, as
this allows for a wider variety of DCU superheroes.
While Merced's Hawkgirl costume hasn't been revealed to the public yet, it's
possible that whenever they film more scenes on location, a few glimpses will
finally emerge. With a lot of details still being kept under wraps, time will tell
when Gunn will reveal more to the world about his Superman movie. But for
now, the DC Universe audience will have to wait and see what else is in store
with the Superman film.
When asked if it was normal to be editing together footage while they were still
shooting, Gunn responded by saying, “When shooting a movie for five months
it’s really normal to edit. I can pick up shots if I need to but, more importantly, I
can start turning shots over to VFX so they’ll be awesome by the time we lock
the picture. Most films are put into theaters with subpar
effects because the edits were rushed.”
Interestingly, James Gunn today randomly posted an image of the original “S”
shield seen on the cover of “Action Comics #1”.
Faría as The Engineer, Neva Howell as Martha Kent, and Pruitt Taylor Vince as
Jonathan Kent.
Directed by James Gunn, “Superman” is scheduled to be released July 11,
2025.

Central Casting Georgia has posted a couple of casting calls for extras and
actors for filming on the new “Superman” movie taking place in Macon, Georgia.
Central Casting Georgia is looking for people who can portray the role of South
Asian or Caucasian for a particular part of filming that will require those chosen
to “run in the sand with loud sounds going off occasionally around you”.
The casting call states that filming will take place in Macon, GA in late May to
early June 2024, with fittings taking place in Fayetteville, GA in April/early May
2024.
Anyone interested should send contact information and a current photo with the
subject line “MACON” to zoltar@centralcasting.com.
Another casting call for the film is for a “Punk Rock Male” role to work on
Wednesday, April 24 in Fayetteville, Georgia.
They’re seeking guys who can portray ages 18-25 that are 18 years or older,
“all ethnicities who are male that can portray a PUNK ROCKER, in a punk rock
band! Specifically looking for those with piercings, and if you have a mohawk…
EVEN BETTER!”
With yesterday’s announcement that Pruitt Taylor Vince has been selected to
play Jonathan Kent, it appears as though both Ma and Pa Kent will be alive in
this continuity.
Neva Howell’s recent roles include “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Long Haul,” “Logan
Lucky” and “My Fellow Americans”.
Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, and María

While filming has already begun, many Superman experts knew that some fairly
important roles in the film were yet to be cast- the roles of the Man of Steel's
Earth parents, Ma and Pa Kent.
Today, The Wrap has unveiled who's playing one of these roles as veteran
character actor Pruitt Taylor Vince has been selected to play Pa Kent.
Pruitt Taylor Vince (63), previously won an Emmy for his role as Clifford Banks
in the 1997 American legal drama, Murder One. He most recently played Rick in
Bird Box, Angelo Ruggiero in Gotti, and Grill in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Pa Kent has previously been played by Kevin Costner in Man of Steel and
Glenn Ford in 1978’s Superman.
In other recent Superman news, Gunn took to social media to address rumors
that Lex Luthor would be creating a Superman doppelganger in the form of
Bizarro or Ultraman to challenge David Corenswet's Clark Kent.
"There are so many stories coming out every day it’s difficult to deal with and
everytime I strike something down I’m giving it attention. So, I’ll say again, don’t
believe anything unless you see it HERE (& why would you want to know
everything before the movie comes out anyway?"
With cameras set to film out in the open soon, the hope among the fandom is
that Gunn and DC Studios will soon reveal the first, official full look at
Corenswet's Man of Steel costume.
(but unconfirmed) to appear in Legacy, as well.
Currently set for release on July 11, 2025, Superman: Legacy Superman is the
first film in Gunn's reboot of the DCEU.
According to TheWrap.com, Pruitt Taylor Vince has been cast to play Jonathan
Kent, Clark Kent’s adoptive father, in the upcoming 2025 “Superman” movie.
Pruitt Taylor Vince has appeared in many movies and TV shows, including an
Emmy Award winning role in “Murder One”. He will next appear in Apple TV’s
“Lady in the Lake” starring Natalie Portman, and has had recurring roles in
“Stranger Things,” “The Walking Dead” and “The Mentalist”.
Previously known as “Superman: Legacy”, the cast of the film, now simply titled

Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Terence Rosemore as

Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi
Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, and María
Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer.

2025.
April 14, 2024 Photos of David Corenswet have emerged online showing the
actor’s muscular physique ahead of the upcoming “Superman” movie.
Cast to play the Man of Steel in James Gunn’s 2025 “Superman,” Corenswet
was photographed filming a TV commercial in Mexico this weekend, showing off
his hard gained muscles.
The cast of “Superman” features David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent,
Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo
as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Nathan Fillion as Guy
Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister
Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, and María Gabriela de Faría as The
Engineer.
That makes sense given where the reboot is in terms of filming. However, many
fans were left disappointed with the lack of DCU updates, not to mention the
fact DC Studios' contribution boiled down to a brief message from James Gunn
and a blurry logo.
The Kingdom Come-inspired design has already divided opinions, but you can
take another look at it thanks to a newly surfaced set photo.
While this logo was used in The CW's Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover when
Brandon Routh donned it to play an older version of Superman Returns' Clark
Kent, those DC TV shows weren't exactly mainstream. As a result, many
moviegoers will eventually see this take for the first time when SUPERMAN is
fully unveiled and it should be interesting to see what they make of it.
The big question now is whether Superman has the trunks or not. The Engineer
remains the only character spotted on set and with Gunn confirming he won't be
at Comic-Con, it might be wise to reign in expectations for a splashy DCU
event.
After all, it could be that our first look at the Man of Tomorrow ultimately comes
in the form of a set photo or an image which debuts in the pages of a
publication like Entertainment Weekly or PEOPLE on a random day of the
week. We'll see.
For now, take a closer look at SUPERMAN's take on this iconic emblem in the X
post below.
Teschmacher, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor,
and Wendell Pierce as Perry White.
Milly Alcock is also expected to make a cameo appearance as Supergirl before
taking flight in her own movie, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
At the end of the video the film’s official Superman “S” shield was shown,
revealing a red and gold version of the emblem reminiscent of the symbol seen
in the “Kingdom Come” graphic novel written by Mark Waid and illustrated by
Alex Ross.
The cast of “Superman” features David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent,
Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo
as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Nathan Fillion as Guy
Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister
Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, and María Gabriela de Faría as The
Engineer.
Using the production codename “Genesis”, the casting calls are will begin
around the end of April – early May.
The actor appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers yesterday evening and was
asked about his role as Daily Planet editor-in-chief, Perry White. He played coy
but seems to be relishing the opportunity to board the DCU.
"The great James Gunn is directing that film. That's what I hear," Pierce teased.
"You may know more about it than I do!"
"Like I said, I can remember my lines, but not my characters. I'm looking
forward to this. I never grew up reading comics so I relied on my friends to tell
me about it," he continued. "As you can see, I have a problem with memory. I'm
excited about [it]."
When Pierce's casting was made official, Gunn said he too was "excited" to
welcome the actor into this world. With both Clark Kent and Lois Lane expected
to be front and centre in this story, we anticipate spending a lot of time at The
Daily Planet; that likely means Pierce's role will be significant.
"I completely relate to Superman because he’s everything I am," Gunn said of
the Man of Tomorrow last year. "He’s somebody who is an outsider who feels
like an alien, but also the ultimate insider, because he’s [frick]ing Superman.
And that’s kind of like what I feel like."
"How can I make it different from the Superman movies that have been made
so far, but also have it respect all the Superman movies that have been made
so far? [It] just took me some time to try to figure it out," he'd later say when
asked about turning down the chance to helm a Superman project before The
Suicide Squad.
Teschmacher, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor,
and Wendell Pierce as Perry White.

Wendell Pierce, perhaps best known for his work as a detective on HBO’s
seminal crime series The Wire, has been cast as the iconic editor-in-chief of
The Daily Planet in James Gunn’s Superman.
The new feature based on the DC Comics character began rolling in Atlanta on
Thursday. It was previously titled Superman: Legacy.
David Corenswet is starring as Clark Kent/Superman, with Rachel Brosnahan
playing Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane. The cast also includes Nicholas Hoult
as classic villain Lex Luthor.
Rounding out Gunn’s cast is Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Sara Sampaio
(Eve Teschmacher), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), Terence Rosemore (Otis),
Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), Nathan Fillion
(Guy Gardner) and María Gabriela de Faría (The Engineer).
The feature marks the first solo Superman project in more than a decade
following Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, which starred Henry Cavill. Warner Bros.
has set a July 11, 2025, release date.
Pierce was most recently seen in the Amazon series Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan,
where he played Clancy mainstay character James Greer. He also did a stint on
Starz’s Power Book III: Raising Kanan. The actor is repped by Paradigm and
Essential Talent.
James Gunn announced that Feb. 29 marked the start of filming on his new
“Superman” movie, which will kick off the rebooted DC Universe under the
supervision of him and his DC Studios co-boss Peter Safran. Gunn also
revealed that his movie, which had been titled “Superman: Legacy,” is now
simply called “Superman.”
“When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film ‘Superman: Legacy.’
By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN,” he
added. “Making our way to you July 2025.”
David Corenswet, best known for supporting roles in Ryan Murphy shows such
as “Hollywood,” is playing the eponymous superhero opposite “The Marvelous
Mrs. Maisel” Emmy winner Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Nicholas Hoult is
taking on the role of Superman’s infamous villain Lex Luthor, while Gunn’s cast
also includes Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho),
Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), Nathan Fillon (Guy Gardner), Isabela Mercad
(Hawkgirl) and more.
Gunn posted the first cast photo on Instagram last week following a table read
of the script in Atlanta. Speaking to Variety at the SAG Awards, Brosnahan said
it was thrilling to hear Gunn’s words aloud.
“Superman” is set to open in theaters July 11, 2025, from Warner Bros.
