B. Propose an internal management procedure for hazardous waste, which includes the
following aspects:

1. The conditioning of the RESPEL

2. RESPEL labeling
3. The internal transport ecomap or RESPEL routing
4. Temporary storage of RESPEL in the collection center.
Next, the internal management procedure is proposed for a waste generated in a general
microbiology laboratory, this being Petri dishes with microbiological growth agars, for this
purpose the internal management diagram of the waste is presented.

1. Conditioning of the RESPEL.

The conditioning of Petri dishes with bacterial growth agars is based on segregation at the
source, for which adequate waste management begins with the initial classification or
separation of waste into the appropriate containers, according to the color code. established,
using the container and bag code.
The specific procedure would be:
 Once the hazardous waste is generated, the staff must separate it at the source,
identifying that the type of waste is biosanitary with biological risk, for which
they must use a red bag with the respective identification.

 Subsequently, an attenuation or deactivation process will begin to allow the

reduction of biological and chemical risks, in accordance with resolution 1164
of 2002. In this case, the staff must execute the internal procedure for
sterilization using the autoclave.

 After sterilization, the staff proceeds to quantify the waste generated; said
activity must be recorded in the internal biological waste quantification format.

2. RESPEL labeling.

The labeling of the waste depends on the type of waste and its dangerousness, for which the
staff must identify that the waste is biological and according to the color code, the color red
must be used, with the respective biohazard pictogram. The labeling must be clear, legible
and indelible, for which the following data is printed on the label.
 Identification code of the waste they contain.
 Nature of the risks presented by the waste indicated by pictograms.
 Specific risks.
 Prudence advice.
Additionally, those responsible for the corresponding waste must add to the information
contained on each label:
 Name, laboratory and telephone number of the person responsible for the waste.
 Packing date.

3. RESPEL Internal Transport Route

The collection and transportation or transfer of waste is carried out from the generation site
to the hazardous waste room for subsequent delivery to the company contracted for
treatment and final disposal.
Hazardous waste is collected by general services personnel assigned to carry out the
sanitary route. These collaborators must remove from each area the red bag that must be
knotted or tied and labeled to be transported to the hazardous waste storage room. If a
liquid waste spill occurs during the sanitary route, gelling or solidifying absorbent
substances found in the spill control kit will be used.
To carry out the sanitary routes in each one, there will be transport carts of the color
corresponding to the type of waste, which must be kept clean, without cracks, with lids,
wheels in good condition and labeled according to the type of waste. The cleaning and
disinfection of the transport cars will be carried out once the sanitary route is completed in
accordance with the internal cleaning and disinfection instructions.
The procedure for collecting and transporting waste to the central hazardous waste storage
room is:
 Waste must be removed when the container is full up to 80% of its capacity or when
the container is dirty due to fluid spills.
 The bag must be removed from the container, knotted and labeled with the name of
the area of origin and date according to the internal format for the hazardous waste
label.

 The person responsible for the generating area must weigh the waste before it is
collected by the general services personnel. This weight must be recorded in the
internal daily registration form for hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
 Bags and containers must be well sealed to avoid spills during the sanitary route.
 Before starting the journey, verify the hygienic and operating conditions of the
transport cart.
 The collection of hazardous waste must be carried out by personnel trained in the
management of this type of waste, with the appropriate equipment, protective
elements and vaccines.
 Carry out the route according to the established schedule and the health route
previously defined in the RESPEL ecomap.
 Clean the transport cart and PPE.
 Hazardous waste storage rooms will be washed and disinfected each time
specialized cleaning companies collect the waste.

4. RESPEL Temporary Storage

The waste collected during the sanitary route is taken to the temporary storage rooms for
hazardous waste and then delivered to the contracted company for treatment and final
disposal. These are stored in the temporary storage rooms for hazardous waste, which have
With natural ventilation, the walls and floors facilitate cleaning and disinfection. The room
is provided with mesh isolation grids or nets to prevent the entry of vectors, is marked
according to the type of waste and has access to fire extinguishing equipment.
The procedure for developing the activity involves the following steps
 The entry of dangerous material into the warehouse must be documented in
RESPEL's internal record, in which the characterization, quantification and origin
must be specified.

 Subsequently, the staff must review the label and corroborate the compatibility
matrix to define the best conditions to store said waste.

It is important that the person responsible for the temporary waste storage must:

 Check that the person who is going to transport the waste is authorized for that task.
 Verify the identification and safety conditions in which the waste arrives, signing
the reception and delivery form for this purpose.
 Accompany the authorized person to transfer the waste to the temporary warehouse
to open it.
 Check the safety conditions inside the warehouse before placing the waste.
 Indicate to the person responsible for the transfer where they should place the
different waste within the temporary warehouse, supporting them in case of
difficulty.
 Before closing the warehouse, ensure the security of the premises.

Finally, the temporary warehouse must request and coordinate the collection of the waste
by the specialized company for subsequent final disposal. The personnel in charge must
record the RESPEL delivery form.
