HOW TO INSTALL SAFETY CLAMPS FOR STEEL CABLES (HORIZONTAL

FALL PROTECTION SYSTEMS)

1. Refer to Table 1 when following these instructions.
Bend back the specified amount of cable, from the thimble or eye. Place the
first clip at a distance equivalent to the base of the clip from the dead end of
the cable. Apply the “U” screw on the dead end of the cable, the live end rests
on the base. Tighten the nuts evenly, using a torque wrench, alternating from
one to the other until the recommended torque is achieved.

2. When two clips are required, apply the second clip as close to the thimble
as possible. Tighten the nuts alternating the recommended torque with a
torque wrench.
When more than two clips are required, place the second clip as close to the
thimble or eye as possible, then turn the nuts on the second clip but do not
tighten them. Proceed to step 3.

3. When three or more clips are required, space the additional clips equally
between the first two - tension the slack wire - evenly tighten the nuts on each
U-bolt, alternating from one nut to the other until the recommended torque is
achieved
with torque meter.

4. If a pulley is used instead of a thimble, add an additional clip.

The distance of the staples must be located as indicated in the drawing.

5. CABLE SPLICES:
The preferred method for splicing two cables is to use two turnstile eyes to
splice with thimbles, and use the appropriate number of staples in each eye.
(See Figure 5.) An alternative method is to use twice the number of staples
used in a splice termination.
The cables are placed parallel to each other and are mounted on twice the
amount of cable used in a turnstile, as shown in the application instructions.
Each dead end must have the same minimum number of staples (See Figure
6).
All instructions, such as spacing, and installation torque, always apply.

6. IMPORTANT

Apply the first load to test the assembly. This load must be equal to or greater
than the load expected in actual use. Then, check and retighten the nuts to the
recommended torque.
With good stroking and maintenance practices, the cable end should be
inspected regularly for wear and abuse and overall good condition.

It is recommended that fall protection systems be installed by qualified

personnel.
