1.2 Product guide for potentiometer installation set
This product manual contains important information for connecting and commissioning a
potentiometer in an RW motor gearbox. Before proceeding, please read this product guide carefully
to carry out the work in a safe and responsible manner. All work must be performed by qualified
and skilled mechanical and / or electrical installers.
The Ridder potentiometer installation set, including potentiometer, is designed to be built into
a Ridder RW motor gearbox and enables all the positions of the driven system to be fed back
accurately. The potentiometer installation set is suitable for the Ridder RW45, RW240/400/
600/800, RW200, RW1000/1400 and W1200S/ 1600S/ 2000S motor gearboxes.
The installation set includes a complete set of gearwheels with 14, 15, 18, 20, 24, 25 (2x), 30, 32, 36
and 40 teeth for the best possible use of the potentiometer range (90% of the maximum number of
potentiometer revolutions).
The gearwheels allow various transmission ratios between the potentiometer and the drive shaft
of the RW motor gearbox to be achieved and optimum use to be made of the potentiometer´s
measuring range.
The potentiometer installation set comes with a potentiometer. Separate installation sets are
available for the various potentiometer revolution ranges and resistance values. Selecting the
correct potentiometer depends on the required number of revolutions and the control method
used. As standard, the potentiometer installation set is provided as a complete set separately from
or together with a RW motor gearbox. The potentiometer installation set can be pre-installed in a
RW motor gearbox on request.
For application in push-pull screen systems or another system with a large number of drive shaft
revolutions, the RW45 and RW240/400/600 motor gearboxes can be provided with a brass pinion (8
teeth) for use with the potentiometer installation set.
In order to install the potentiometer installation set, the RSU limit switch
system of the RW motor gearbox must have been correctly installed.

3.1 Installing the potentiometer installation set
Complete the following instructions to install the potentiometer installation set in a RW motor
gearbox. Note: If you are installing the potentiometer installation set in an RW45 motor gearbox or
using the pinion Z8, the installation position of the potentiometer is different (mirrored) to the one
described in the instructions below. For the correct installation position, see §4.1.1, §4.1.2, §4.4.1
and §4.5.1.
Complete the following preparation steps before installing the potentiometer installation set:
u Description
1 Correctly install the limit switch system of the RW motor gearbox.
2 Determine the number of drive shaft revolutions between the pre-set end positions.
3 Turn the drive shaft of the motor gearbox into one of the end positions.
Determine the type of RW motor gearbox and select the gearwheels required from one of
4
the tables in chapter 4.
Check the Ohm value of the potentiometer; this value must be adjusted to the
5
measurement input of the climate controller.
The tables in chapter 4 allow you to select the correct gearwheels (change wheels) for your
application. The following steps describe how to select the correct gearwheels for a 10-stroke
potentiometer to be installed in a RW400 motor gearbox with a drive shaft that makes 25
revolutions:
• Select the correct table for the RW400 and 10-stroke potentiometer: §4.3.2 Table for
RW240/400/600 - 10-stroke potentiometer
• Use this table to find the value closest below 25 revolutions: 24 revolutions
• Look up the values of the corresponding gearwheels Z1 and Z2: Z1 = 18 and Z2 = 30
