What is this resource and how do I use it?
Victor FrankenTwinkl’s Crazy Sentence Machine is designed to help young children understand the
basic concepts of ‘value’ and ‘variable’ in terms of computer coding. Just follow the instructions and
you’ll end up with a crazy jumble of sentences that will show how important these elements are to
a program!
What skills does this practise? Further Activity Ideas and Suggestions
Children as young as two are old enough to be introduced
Computer Coding
to the basics of coding and other skills that are essential for
Sentence Structure
Challenge Area:
• What happens if you mix up the values and put them in the
wrong part of the machine? What happens to the sentences at
the end? How do you think this may affect a computer code?
• Try writing your own values for each section. What sentences
do you end up with? Do they make sense? If they were
part of a computer code do you think it would work?
