MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn, worked 2 strands (Newborn 50 grams)
Crochet Hook, size 6.5mm (U S K 10.5)
Yarn needle
1. Working with 2 strands of yarn and size 6.5mm hook: (This design began
with purple, but the hat can be made totally in black.)
chain 32
Slip stitch to join, being careful not to twist the chain.
2. *Chain 1 and turn, single crochet in each stitch around, slip stitch to join. Repeat from * for one more row.
(If using a contrasting color for the band, fasten off, and attach main color.)
3. *Chain 1 and turn, single crochet in each stitch around, repeat from * until the work measures 4 inches, including the band.

4. Chain 1 and turn, single crochet around, skipping every 3rd stitch.
5. Now working in a spiral, single crochet around, skipping every 8th stitch until there is only approximately 1 inch diameter opening
remaining, then skip every 2nd stitch until the top of the hat is closed up, fasten off. Photo 2.
