Volodymyr Kolodii, (101520061) 1. Discuss Shackleton's leadership style in two paragraphs. 2. What are the important lessons and take aways for you as future leaders? List at least three (can be more) lessons learned in this activity.
We consider Shackleton’s leadership style as transformational, that is
empowering motivation, morale and performance of everyone. He considered every team member, and he would never ask them to do things that he would not do. Every crew member was important to him, and everyone was treated equally. His leadership style can also be described as affiliative, that is prioritizing people and emotions over tasks and goals. In the middle of that life threatening situation he organized activities, such as waltz, dog races etc. so that everyone would not get desperate and think of the hard situation they were in. The way he could adapt to unpredictable life-threatening situations and the ability to seamlessly manage going from mission to mission makes him a great leader. Being able to take full responsibility for everybody makes him an outstanding leader. 2. Below are some important lessons that we learned. We understood that being a team leader it is not only about meeting the goals and deadlines. If you are a good leader, you will prioritize your team and their emotions. Being a good leader also means being able to adjust to unpredictable situations without losing hope and demotivating your team. Another trait of being a good leader is the ability to keep your friends close and your enemies closer. This way you will avoid the spread of negativity from the toxic team members to others. A good team leader should also be able to evaluate all possibilities and threats so that they can adapt and solve hard situations with no harm to teams.
