ACTIVITY TRAIN CASE STUDY

1. AIM

 Find the optimal number of sectors and define them in the plane.
 Define the Activity Train and fill it in the Lookahead.
 Indicate the amount of concrete to be poured per day.

2. JOB MATERIAL

 Work plans with measurements.

 Lookahead format.
 Results filling format.

3. CASE DESCRIPTION AND RESTRICTIONS

 The work to be carried out is the construction of the shell of an 8-story building.
The scope of the work will be to carry out only the formwork and casting of all
the columns, plates, beams, lightened slabs and solid slabs . The steel items and
installations will be developed by subcontractors who will not influence the
progress of the hull (performance has already been considered with the
interaction of these activities).
*The perimeter wall is not part of the scope of the project.

 The items to be considered in the Work Train will be the following:

Column and Plate Formwork

Column and Plate Concrete
Beam Formwork
Lightweight Slab Formwork
Solid Slab Formwork
Horizontal Concrete (Beams and Slabs)

 The following considerations should be taken into account for programming:

1. Metal formwork is available to form the formwork of plates, columns and

beams. The stock allows a maximum of 100m 2 of verticals and 55m 2 of
beams to be formed per day. The quantity of slab formwork is no
restriction.

2. A maximum of 6 8m 3 mixers are allowed to be emptied per day.

3. The construction sequence of activities is as follows (the sequence does

not necessarily denote different days, except for the vertical elements that
must be formworked and poured on the same day):

Column and Plate Formwork

Column and Plate Concrete
Beam Formwork
Lightweight Slab Formwork
Solid Slab Formwork
Beam Concrete
Lightweight Slab Concrete
Solid Slab Concrete

4. The work schedule is 8 hours from Monday to Friday.

5. The suggestions indicated in the presentation must be respected:

a. If the casting of the beams or joists must be divided, this will be to
thirds of the span.
b. The formwork of the joists and beams may not split into a fraction
of the span.

6. The formwork and casting of the columns cannot be broken. The

formwork and pouring of the plates may be split at any point on the plane.

7. All beams are 0.25mx 0.50m. The length of the beams in direction XX is
4.75m and in YY is 6.00m and 2.78m.

8. The entire plane is symmetrical in XX and YY and there will be only 3 sizes
of panels (2 lightened and 1 solid).

4. TASKS TO BE DONE

 The optimal feasible number of sectors must be determined to carry out the work
in the shortest possible time according to the project considerations.
 Graph and list the sectors in the typical plant of the project (in the case of
formwork and concrete pouring).
 Indicate the amount of formwork and concrete metering for slabs, beams and
verticals (columns and plates) for each of the sectors.
 Indicate the number of people that will be required in each item (vertical
formwork, beam formwork, slab formwork, horizontal concrete and vertical
concrete).
 Fill out the Lookahead form with the Work Train.
 Indicate the number of days it will take to complete the project and enter the total
amount of concrete to be poured each day.
