FRICTIONALCAL
FORCE
MOV

•It arises during the

movement of one body
across the surface of
another.

•It is directed in the

opposite direction of
movement.

TEACHER
FRICTION FORCES.-
It is that force that arises between two bodies when one tries
to move with respect to the other. This force is always contrary
to movement or possible movement.
TYPES OF FRICTION

He Friction Dry (Coulomb Friction) and Fluid

Friction. In this chapter we will limit
ourselves to studying only to
the
Dry Friction.

It is necessary to remember that friction

is also known as friction.
DRY FRICTION CLASSES:

SLIDING FRICTION:
- Static friction
- kinetic friction

FRICTION DUE TO ROLLING OR PIVOTING

SLIDING FRICTION FORCES
LAWS:
- The friction forces have a value that is directly proportional to
the normal reaction.
- 2_The force of friction does not depend on the area of the
surfaces in contact.
- 3. The force of friction is independent of the speed of the
moving body.
CHARACTERISTICS
Magnitude.- The value of the sliding
friction force is calculated using the
following formulas:

Direction.- It is always parallel to the

surfaces in contact.

Sense.- It always opposes the

movement or possible movement of the
surfaces in contact.

Point of Application.- It is applied to

any point belonging to the surfaces in
contact. mg

STATIC FRICTION

The maximum value of the static friction force is equivalent to

the minimum force necessary to start the movement, which can
be calculated using the following formula:

SMAX : maximum static friction force

'MAX = HsN
Hs : static friction coefficient
SLAX
N: normal reaction
The force of static friction appears when an external force tries to
move one body, with respect to another, this force increases as we
increase the value of the external force, however the force of static
friction has a maximum value since it is overcome when the force
external manages to move the body.
KINETIC FRICTION

The force of kinetic friction appears when the body

goes from imminent movement to movement itself,
the value of the friction force decreases and remains
almost constant.

Hk: coefficient of friction

N: normal reaction
GRAPH: FRICTION FORCE – APPLIED FORCE
The graph illustrated below shows that the friction force
increases linearly up to a maximum value that occurs when the
movement is imminent, after which said force decreases until it
becomes practically constant in the so-called kinetic friction.
EXPERIMENTAL DETERMINATION OF
THE FRICTION COEFFICIENT
One of the simplest methods is using
the inclined plane.
Coefficient of Friction
Static ().- To calculate () by this
method, the following procedure is
followed: a plane is taken and a body
is placed on it. The plane is tilted with
respect to the horizon, gradually until
the movement of the body is
imminent; At that moment the angle
that the plane forms with the
horizontal is measured. The tangent
of that angle will be to the coefficient
of friction
static.
Kinetic Friction Coefficient ().- The procedure to
calculate is similar to the previous one. A plane
is taken and a body is placed on it. The plane is
gradually inclined: but giving
small pushes to the body (simultaneously) until
the body slides on the inclined plane, with
constant speed. The angle that the plane forms
with the horizontal is measured; The tangent of
said angle will give us the coefficient of kinetic
friction.
Some Advantages of Friction

Thanks to friction we can walk, pushing one of our feet (the

one in contact with the ground) backwards.
Thanks to friction the wheels can roll.
Thanks to friction we can make curvilinear movements on the
surface.
Thanks to friction we can embed nails in the walls.
Some Disadvantages of Friction
Due to friction, rubbing bodies wear out, which is why
lubricants are used.
To overcome the force of friction, work must be done, which
is transformed into heat.
