CASE STUDY QUESTIONS 4-11

Conduct an ethical analysis of Facebook. What is the ethical dilemma that this
case presents?

A/ The income of this company comes from the advertising that it provides,
promoting your business, your online page, advertisements in general, which
we know are managed and shared with advertisers, depending on the views
that your page or advertisement receives. It is grouped in the information
bureau that the customer is looking for, Facebook automatically recommends
when a certain page has the product you are looking for, making the search-
purchase process easier.

One of the disadvantages is that it has all your data, as a user you lose your
privacy, you are easy to locate, although there are many privacy policies, these
have also been circumvented on different occasions.

4-12 What is the privacy relationship for Facebook's business model?

This is actually based on all possible users sharing as much information as

possible, since the more Facebook knows about me as a merchant, the more
advantage I get in my advertising. According to data provided, Facebook is
currently implementing a business plan on free advertising.

4-13 Describe the weaknesses of Facebook's privacy policies and features.

What managerial, organizational and technological factors have contributed to
these weaknesses?

 Management. The surveys it provides request your complete information

in order to participate. Managers and executives are the ones who must
implement their policies. Since at the same time they develop their
competitive strategies.

 Organization. Due to the unexpected growth that this platform is

emerging, when entering said platform we are automatically part of the
group of advertisers and buyers.

 Technology. As I mentioned previously, it is already public knowledge

that on occasions its security policies have been flouted. Lawsuits have
even gone so far as to generate losses on the part of the federal trade
association, by failing to comply with it.
 Constant errors with access to pages not desired by users or due to the
simple fact of repetitive advertisements, since it is obvious that they are
paid for that but the annoyance it generates creates discontent for its
users.

4-14 Can Facebook have a successful business model without invading

privacy? Explain your answer. Are there any steps Facebook can take to make
this possible?

Of course, since its launch to date, the company has obtained unimaginable
figures in its pockets, and it is also clear that they can achieve even more
success without disrespecting the privacy of their clients and providing good
service.

Highly personalized ads would become the backbone of Facebook's business

model. Could stopping invading privacy would be tantamount to stopping
Facebook's business operations.

Facebook's revenue in 20212 grew 32% compared to the previous year. Mainly
driven by the addition of new users. Existing users no longer click on ads. That
is to say, when the market reaches saturation and opens few new customers,
Facebook will not be favored by advertisers to the same degree.

The ethical dilemma that we were able to realize here is that Facebook in
Their desire to earn more and more money often violates the privacy of
users perhaps unconsciously and then must be held accountable to the law or
pay large fines for not measuring themselves regarding the issue of what is
prohibited and what not in privacy policy issues
