Engine System
The 793D Truck is the first machine in this class, designed and built by Caterpillar using components and
systems that have been developed over years of difficult mining applications.

3516HD engine with a gross power of 2415 HP 5%

increased power over the 793D (2300HP) Meets the
requirements of the US EPA regarding the TIER I
standard.

A new air intake system has fewer joints (16 vs 22)

reducing the possibility of dust entry.

793D Engine Improvements

- Improved piston that allows and maintains better

lubrication and improves reliability.

- New floating core aftercooler to reduce thermal

stresses.

- New turbo with titanium compressor wheel is more

robust.

- Diagnostic tests with ET have been improved.

- New camshaft follower, improves reliability.

- New cylinder head gasket material to ensure gaskets

remain solid and prevent oil leaks.
New Generation Modular Radiator (NGMR)
A variable speed Hydraulic Fan has been added to the radiator to
improve cooling.

^ Higher cooling density.

^ Modular Core designed for easy

service.

^ Demand-operated (84 in / 2.13 m)

hydraulic fan to reduce parasitic loads.
Torque converter
The torque converter has been designed for greater power.

^ An additional plate and discs have been added to the lockup clutch,
keeping the powertrain capable of handling greater power and greater
speed.

^ New oil level switch serves as an

emergency warning for sudden oil loss.
Rear Axle
The rear axle filtration system has been completely redesigned

The rear axle filtration system used on the 793D truck is hydraulically controlled, which provides a
continuous flow of oil through the filter.

The 793C truck uses a system with movement

control of the equipment, therefore when the
equipment is stopped, the oil is not being
filtered.

The constant filtration provides clean oil and

an increase in the life of the components.

This system is part of the new common rail

hydraulic system.

On the 793D truck, the SOS sampling shows

excellent levels of cleanliness.
Benefits of continuous filtration
Caterpillar's success with dialysis equipment resulted from the continuous
filtration system now based on the rear axle of the 793D truck.

Bearings with dialysis and 4,000 Bearings with oil change at 1,200 hour
hours of oil change show little wear intervals, but without dialysis show pit
after 18,000 hours. marks at 13,000 hours.

Brakes
New extended life friction discs are standard on 793D trucks

The new brake discs are made of a friction material that provides long life
and increased heat resistance.

New friction material, carbon paper.

Long-playing discs offer:

- Improved material life.
- Better heat resistance.
- Better wear rate.
- More consistent braking power. - Less
crystallization.
Automatic Retarder Control (HARC).
In the 793C Truck the ARC acts via air.

On the 793D Truck the ARC acts

hydraulically, therefore requires less
air demand and uses a small
compressor.

The 793D requires few components

for the air system.

HARC provides:

- Smooth latch.

- Fast answer.
Hydraulic system
The 793D has a new strategically managed hydraulic control, designed to reduce
parasitic loads.

Provides more flexible power management.

Enables spin-on-demand functions.

Reduces parasitic power losses above 4% under safe conditions.

The common pump supplies the following systems.

- Address (priority)
- brake cooling motor
- RAX Filtration Engine
- Rear axle cooling fan (if equipped).

Operator's Cabin
The new operator seat with three-point seat belt
restriction offers the operator additional safety and
comfort.

- Seat with raised back for head and neck support.

- The seat suspension adjusts to the weight of the

operator.

- Adjustable rake seat bottom cushion

- Washable seat cover

- Double retractor and shoulder belt system

- Adjustable shoulder strap belt, has six vertical

adjustment heights for an optimal fit.
metal sheets
The new work bridge design includes triangular
shields which extend from the base of the work
bridge to the bottom of the cabin.
^ The new work platform
design includes triangular
reinforcements which
extend from the base of
the work platform towards
the bottom of the cab.

^ The new work platform

is validated through finite
element analysis and iron
and field test
examinations.
metal sheets
The left mirror structure design of the 793D has
been improved in its service life and is less
susceptible to breakage.

- The new design has a thick dome and

backplate and a new geometry in the stand.

- The new design has improved the service

of mirror glass.

- The finite element analysis of the new

design indicates an 87% reduction in stress
(improved by 100 times its useful life)
compared to the previous design.

- Mirror defogger available for the 793D.

Security
The new wide work platform and continuous handrails,
improvements
introduced with the 793D, offer additional safety when
moving outside the operator's cabin.
- The work platform adjacent to the operator door has
been extended to allow a larger standing area when
entering and exiting the cab.

- The chain guard used on the 793C has been replaced

with a continuous guardrail to provide total protection
from the environment.
Security
Introduced with the 793D, all handrails and guardrails
improvements
are equipped with floor plates to add safety.
- The 793C does not have floor protection plates.

- This is a standard feature on the 793D

- Protection plates at the platform floor level

provide protection against skidding and prevent
tools from falling from the platform.
Security
Similar to the 797, the 793D has the headlights on top
improvements
located in the fenders instead of the radiator.
The fender lights provide maximum illumination to add
safety when someone approaches from the wrong
direction during night traffic.

This is a standard feature on the 793D

On the 793C the upper lights are located in the upper

radiator grille.
Security Improvements
The standard 793D is equipped with a wider
diagonal staircase.

The new 600 mm wide ladder provides additional

comfort and easy access and exit for the truck
operator and mechanics.

The 793C has a stair width of 400 mm

This is a standard feature on the 793D truck

Security
The 793D offers a rear access platform.
improvements
The rear access platform offers easy access to the
rear of the cab.

It is especially helpful when you want to clean the

rear glass or want to access the rear compartment of
the cabin (ECM's).

It is equipped with a handrail and handrail that can be

folded inward and provides space when the hopper is
lowered.
Security improvements
The 793D offers an optional ground-level transmission
lock switch.

The ground level transmission lock system is designed

to eliminate the worry of
troubleshooting with the engine
running.

The locking box is located on the

front bumper just above the battery
disconnect box.

When the system is turned ON or

locked, even if the transmission shift
lever or the parking brake switch is
moved, the machine status does not
change.
Security
High intensity discharge HID lights offer higher light
improvements
intensity, improved light quality and longer life than
halogen lights.

HID lights are optional on the 793D

More light intensity - a 70 Watt HID produces 5000

to 6000 lumens of light, the same intensity as four
65 Watt halogen lamps.

Longer life, excellent vibration resistance, the life of

an HID lamp is typically 4 to 8 times longer than
halogen lamps.

Better quality of light than halogen lamps, they look

like daylight up close.

More efficiency, they represent an equivalent in the

electrical system of the machines while producing
four times more lighting.
