Holly Bykowski, the daughter
of Anthony and Cindy Bykow-
ski, is graduating fourth in her
class.
Holly has been a part of many
different activities, playing soc-
cer, and later volleyball, basket-
ball, and track in high school. In
volleyball and basketball, she
received the varsity club award
and was a team captain. She was
a Genesee Region All Star in vol-
leyball for two years in a row.
She plans to attend Genesee
Community College where she
will continue to play volleyball
and plans to get her degree as an
ultrasound technician.
Holly has been an honor
roll student every semester
and received different leader-
ship awards and scholarships.
Holly has also been a member
of the National Honor Society
throughout middle and high
school, participating in many
group activities and individual
community service. Last year,
she volunteered in the elemen-
tary school where she helped in
a second-grade classroom. She
returned this year to volunteer
in the elementary gym classes.

Gateway Comfort Care home,
and at local church events.

Spotlight shines on student theater

Three area schools earned awards
for excellence in overall production
at the Rochester Broadway Theater
League’s annual Stars of Tomorrow
awards.
Albion’s production of “Little Wom-
en” was one of 10 productions recog-
nized in the large school division, with
500 or more students. Le Roy Junior-Se-
nior High School’s production of “Chi-
cago: Teen Edition” and Lima Chris-
tian School’s “Seussical, the Musical”
were recognized in the small school
division, which includes schools with
fewer than 500 students.
A dozen schools from Genesee,
Livingston, Orleans and Wyoming
counties received a total of 67 awards
for their productions, including 35 in-
dividual honors.
The “Stars of Tomorrow” program,
which debuted in 1999, recognizes
high school productions in the greater
Rochester area in a Tony Award-style
program. High schools with fall and
spring productions are invited to par-
ticipate in the program and awards
honor student efforts both on stage
and behind the scenes.
“The Stars of Tomorrow program
does a beautiful job of highlighting the
importance of theater in our schools,,”
said Jacqueline McLean, director of Le
Roy’s production.
This year, 45 schools took part, in-
cluding 39 that performed a selection
from their show on stage at the West
Her Auditorium Theatre for the Stars of
Tomorrow Recognition Ceremony on
May 10.
Batavia High School, which per-
formed the pop musical “Footloose,”
based on the popular 1980s film about
a city boy who moves to a small town
where dancing is outlawed and finds
himself an outsider — and a target of
the local preacher who pushed for the
ban — was among the schools that per-
formed.
“It’s a great opportunity for our stu-
dents to perform on a professional
stage and receive well-deserved love
ad support from other performance
students across the region,” said Wood.
“It was a wonderful night full of perfor-
mances and displays of shared com-
munity.”

Joshua J. Kirsch, son of Jim
and Laura Kirsch of Sheldon, is
ranked fifth in the Notre Dame
Class of 2024.
Previously, Josh attend-
ed Immaculate Conception
School East Aurora, where he
played soccer, track and ex-
celled academically. Josh at-
tended Genesee Valley BOCES
Diesel Tech program.
He is a member of St. John
Neumann Church, Sheldon,
serving as an altar server since
2015 and eucharistic minister
since 2024.
Previously, Josh was in-
volved in 4-H and Civil Air
Patrol. In 2018 and 2019 he re-
ceived TAK CAP Airman of the
Year awards.
Recently, Josh joined the
Sheldon Fire Company after
helping with fundraisers for
many years.
He has worked on his fam-
ily farm since he was able to
get dirty and continues to love
working with his hands. During
summers and weekends, he
worked on a neighbor’s farm
and for an HVAC contractor.
Josh has mastered the sport
of frog giggin’ and is a self-
taught trapper; trapped all sorts
of animals and tanned many
furs. He has been known to
cook his catch for anyone that
will share it with him.
