Remembering literary legends

 Thomas Hardy – (2 June 1840 – 11 Jan 1928) : An English novelist and poet . He is best known for his
novels, all of which were published in the mid- to late-19th century. His works often explore themes of
fate ,love and the human condition . Some of his famous works include Tess of the d’Urbervilles , Jude the
Obscure and Mayor of castorbridge.

 William Butler Yeats (13 June 1865 – 28 Jan 1939) : He was an Irish poet, dramatist and writer, and one of
the foremost figures of 20th-century literature. He was a driving force behind the Irish Literary Revival .
His poems had a lyrical, romantic style, and they focused on love, longing and loss, and Irish myths.Some
of his notable works include The second coming , The Countess Cathleen , The Land of Heart’s Desire ,The
King’s Threshold .

 Hellen Keller (27 June 1880- 1 June 1968): Helen Adams Keller was an American author, disability rights
advocate, political activist and lecturer. She lost her sight and her hearing after a bout of illness when she
was 19 months old. Helen Keller wrote 14 books and over 475 speeches and essays on topics such as faith,
blindness prevention, birth control, the rise of fascism in Europe, and atomic energy. Some of her notable
works include The Story of My Life , Optimism and The Open Door.

 George Orwell (25 June 1903 – 21 Jan 1950) : He was an English novelist, essayist, and critic .Orwell is
best known for his dystopian novel. His discussions contains the theme of nationalism, totalitarianism,
socialism, propaganda, language, class status, work, poverty, imperialism, truth, history, and literature. In
his famous works like Nineteen Eighty-Four, Animal Farm, Burmese Days and many more .

 Anne Frank (12 June 1929- 1945): Annelies Marie “Anne” Frank was a German-born Jewish girl who
kept a diary in which she documented life in hiding under Nazi persecution during the German occupation
of the Netherlands. She gained posthumous fame through the publication of her diary, The Diary of a
Young Girl. Although her life was tragically cut short during the holocaust.

 Salman Rushdie : ( 19 June 1947) : He is an Indian-born British-American novelist. His work often
combines magic realism with historical fiction and primarily deals with connections, disruptions, and
migrations between Eastern and Western civilizations. He is famous for allegorical novels examine
historical and philosophical issues through surreal characters and brooding humor.
Some of his notable works include Midnight’s Children,The Golden House,Victory City .
