1. I carefully read the information presented.

DID YOU KNOW…
The conquerors, upon arriving in America, introduced their culture and, as part of it, their way of
dancing, which was mixed with the existing indigenous dances in the
country; The combination of both gave rise to Paraguayan dance. This
fusion between native and Spanish dance occurred in all the conquered
peoples and not only in Paraguay; That is why many American
countries have similar characteristics in their dances, with variations in
choreography and clothing that distinguish each of them.

2. I read the following information carefully and then carry out the proposed activities.
THE FOLKLORE AND THE POPULAR
Folkloric and popular are words that have different meanings, but they are generally used as if they
were synonyms in the field of Paraguayan dance and music. And that, sometimes, creates confusion that
prevents us from seeing the differences that exist between folkloric and popular. Let's remember about
the traditional dances discussed in the previous grade where we learned that folk dance is from the
people, it is made up of spontaneous manifestations, which are perpetuated over time from generation
to generation. Hence we call traditional or Paraguayan folk dances the set of dances that constitute the
property and heritage of our people.
POPULAR DANCE
Popular dance is that which is fashionable in the town. A dance considered popular is the “Chiperita”
which does not have its own choreography and is danced with the polka of the same name and its
authors, both in lyrics and music, are known. In this sense we quote the book “Folklore del Paraguay”
by Dionisio M. González Torres who in relation to the popular says the following: There are facts of
very widespread knowledge, very collective, very popularized; These are called popular, and not
folkloric, since they are by a known author or creator, they are not anonymous.

REMEMBER…
The main characteristics of popular dance are: not having its own choreography, being able to dance
individually or in groups, having started in a certain place and then spreading, the author or creator is
known. Folk dances are popular, but popular dances are not folkloric.

3. I respond orally.
• What is the choreography of popular dances like?
• Is what is popular anonymous, or is it from a well-known author or creator?
• Are the meanings of popular dances and folk dances the same?
