PARTS OF A GUITAR

Although it is true, the guitar has a good number of parts and pieces, each with
its respective function, we will detail only those with which we will need to be
more familiar.

 Resonance box : it is the box where the acoustic effect is produced that
gives volume to the sounds.

 Mouth : It is the hole located on the back cover of the sound box, whose
purpose is to let the air contained therein enter and exit.

 Bridge : It is a rectangular piece with a transverse slot in the center, where

the nut fits. The bridge has six small holes into which one end of each string
is tied.

 Nut or Capo: rectangular piece of bone or ivory that is placed in the groove
of the bridge. It serves to raise the strings above the level of the soundboard
and, through their contact with it, transmit the vibrations to the soundboard.

 In the part where the neck meets the pegboard, there is a second capo
whose function is to keep the strings elevated along the fretboard .
 Arm or Neck : It is the elongated piece of wood that goes from the body of
the guitar (or soundboard) to the headstock . The fingerboard is located on
the front of this neck.

 Fingerboard : It is the flat wooden plate that covers the front part of the
neck and on which the strings are stepped on with the fingers.

 Frets : The fingerboard is divided by metal bars embedded in it, called

frets . The spaces that are formed between these dividing bars receive the
same name.

 Pegbox: It is the piece of wood or metal located at the end of the neck, into
which the pegs fit.

 Peg : It is the cylindrical piece to which the rope is tied. It has a lug that
allows you to place your fingers and turn it to increase or decrease the
tension of the string.

 Ropes. The classical acoustic guitar has 6 strings which are numbered from
bottom to top. Number 1, or first, is the thinnest and is located in the lower
position. The 6th is located in the upper position, which is the thickest. On
classical or flamenco guitars, the first three strings are made of nylon and
the last three have a nylon core with a metal wound .
