Ancient Mediterranean civilizations and their relation to the sea; ships and port cities in the
Greco-Roman era; the relation of Jews and the Land of Israel to the sea; museums and their
heritage
6. Academic Profile
Research work on Jews and their relation to the sea in Greco-Roman times; the maritime
cities of the Land of Israel, material heritage and them inter cultural role, based on literary
and archaeological sources. Examples: Jaffa and Akko (Acre). Ships, storms and seafaring
in the ancient Mediterranean. Another field of interest, the museum and its heritage, past and
present. This includes a research project, combining AI (Artificial Intelligence), archaeology
and museum studies. The research was carried out at the Hecht Museum, University of
Haifa, as part of international projects dealing with implementing new technologies in
cultural heritage. Future research will deal with issues relating the heritage of maritime cities
and its conservation.
