OROCUINA 2014
INTRODUCTION

This work is a summary of the work I had as a Literacy Facilitator,

which is one of the requirements I had to meet in order to graduate.

It is important to highlight that this work has been a success, since the
objectives were achieved almost 100%, where the idea was to teach
literacy to people who do not know how to read or write or perhaps
who did not have the opportunity to study for many reasons.

In our country we currently have 14.6% illiteracy, that is a bit

comforting in relation to other countries where the illiteracy rate is
higher.

Today the Minister of Education of Honduras has set himself the goal
of eradicating these rates of Illiteracy and that is why he has decreed
that all students before graduating must teach literacy to people who
have not had the opportunity to enter school, or to people who for
many reasons had to leave their studies.

Personally, I want to transcribe my experience as a Literacy Facilitator,

since it is one of the requirements that I must meet in order to
graduate.

GOALS
GENERAL OBJECTIVE:

Publicize my experience as a Literacy Facilitator, as a requirement for

my graduation.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:

- Describe how my experience was teaching literacy to people who

do not know how to read or write.

- List what my weaknesses were in order to teach these people

literacy.

- Describe what my strengths were in being able to teach these

people to read and write.

EXPERIENCE ON LITERACY, AS A REQUIREMENT FOR MY

GRADUATION.
I want to start by saying that it is one of the most beautiful experiences
I have had in my entire life. The simple fact of being able to help
people who do not know how to read and write to develop that skill is
something that is priceless. Today I recognize that teaching is one of
the most beautiful works on this planet.

First of all, it must be highlighted that the young adult learns from the
experiences lived up to that moment, and this is taken into account in
the design of the methodology used, the activities carried out and the
learning strategies.

As I said before, students learn from their lived experience, and

therefore it is important to design appropriate teaching materials for the
students with whom we are going to work and also suitable for the
media and work media that we have.

For this type of teaching, all of us who carried out this process had to
use recorded lessons, and that helped us greatly to be able to achieve
our objectives.

EXPERIENCES
As a student of Commercial Education, I had a unique experience in
my educational life, in which I taught classes to a first grade student, I
really liked teaching her to read and write so that it helps her in her life
and can be very important, too. I liked having experiences with adults.

We also acquire knowledge for life where one as a student serves

one's daily life, where participation and social coexistence of each one
is encouraged.

It also serves as a development of each community's well-being, since

as students we play a very important role in the educational field,
where a lot can be taught and learned. Teaching reading and writing
reminded me a lot of my childhood, everything is something satisfying
for a student.

Mercedes Azucena Espinal.

EXPERIENCES
The experience lived in the literacy process was very important in my
personal and professional life, since apart from helping other people, it
was also a benefit for me, it is very important to feel useful when being
able to help others.

I feel happy to have been able to carry out this work as a first level
facilitator (1st grade).

Teaching a person to learn the first letters, adding and subtracting

motivates me to get ahead, since it is never too late to start.

I am sure that by promoting literacy, within a few years we will be a

better country, since education changes our lives and the spirit of
thinking makes us better people and, above all, better humans.

I am fully satisfied with this program that has been implemented hoping
that it will not be a wasted effort, in this experience we learned from
each other because every day we learned something new we are here
to learn something different every day. Well this was my experience.

EXPERIENCES

My experience had a primary objective, to have shared with other

people what I have learned, since the person I assisted on this
occasion lent me his time and showed his will and interest in wanting to
learn to read and write at the same time, teaching them to know
numbers so that I could learn to add and subtract, for me it was a great
experience, because it reminded me of previous years, that I was able
to learn something similar in the same way to read and write.

That is why I feel satisfied and grateful to the person who not only lent
me his time but also because he supported me in that way and at the
same time very responsible since we shared many experiences during
the time of teaching.

EXPERIENCES

For me, the experiences I had as a TES facilitator were the best
because I learned how students enroll.
How classes are taught. It is not easy to teach classes although I had
never taught classes.

It was the first time I taught a student to write, to know letters, to read
and count numbers.

He liked taking classes because he said he had never been taught

vowels.

I am very grateful, because that was a very important project for me,
because without his help it would not be possible to carry out my final
year project.

These are my experiences I had as a TES facilitator.

EXPERIENCES

As a final year student of Business Education, I had a unique

experience in my educational life, in which I learned a lot because I
shared experiences with the adults who were my students.
We also acquire knowledge for life where as students it serves our
daily lives, where it promotes education and participation and without
abandoning social coexistence.

It serves as a development for the well-being of communities, since as

students we play an important role in the educational field where there
are many people who learn a lot in writing, reading, counting numbers.
They learned to write their name so they could sign and not leave
fingerprints, and this is a satisfaction for one as a student.

EXPERIENCE

The experience I had in the literacy process was excellent for me on a

personal level, apart from the fact that it was an essential requirement
for my graduation, and it was a giant step towards realizing myself as a
future professional.
The person I counted on in this literacy process feels very happy and
above all very grateful for having learned new things such as knowing
their first letters, they learned to add and subtract, since for them it was
something new, because in their childhood He did not have the
opportunity to have a level of study, from my perspective being able to
help him made me feel like a better person since in this work as a
facilitator we learn from each other and that makes it a very good
experience.

This work in my life was a complete success, since I achieved the

objectives set almost one hundred percent. It is important for me to
emphasize that this process requires a very high degree of patience
when imparting knowledge, and for this also It requires a lot of effort
and sacrifice without leaving out the dedication and availability to do it.

Thanks to our Heavenly Father and the effort we put in we were able to
achieve it.

My student feels satisfied and very happy, since next year he will go to
second grade.

This was my experience in the literacy process.

WEAKNESSES DURING THE LITERACY PROCESS

I think it is necessary to highlight some difficulties encountered during

this process.

- I do not have a pedagogical training.

- I didn't know the teaching methods and techniques.
More than anything, these were my difficulties during this process, but I
was quickly able to gain strength in these aspects, as it was necessary
to be able to carry out my proposed objectives.

STRENGTHS DURING THE LITERACY PROCESS

Whenever one carries out a task, which perhaps we have never carried
out, we find certain strengths that we have at the time we are carrying
out said activity, in the personal it happened to me, I discovered that I
have a lot of ability to transmit my knowledge and thanks to It is very
important for me to mention some strong points that I had when I
carried out my work as a Literacy Facilitator.

- Easy understanding of the contents to be explained to the

students.
- Ease of expression.
- And something very important that you have to have in this type
of training is enough patience to ensure that the students
understand what you want to make known to them.

ACHIEVEMENTS

As in any process there may be difficulties, for us it is important to

highlight the achievements obtained in this literacy process.
We consider highlighting that one of the primary objectives was
achieved, which is to reduce the level of illiteracy in our communities.

We describe it this way, since in our communities the illiteracy rates are
very high, and this is a consequence of the little opportunity that people
have to go to school.

On a personal level, we acquire experience and preparation to be able

to transmit our knowledge to people who do not know how to read or
write.

People's motivation was achieved, because they recognized that it is

never too late to learn, and it is satisfying to see many people with that
type of attitude.

And finally we believe that the most important achievement is the

gesture of solidarity that we provide when transmitting knowledge to
people who really need it, and that is something of which we should
feel proud, having contributed all our efforts so that these people can
go emerging from that social problem, such as illiteracy.

CONCLUSIONS

Illiteracy occurs in a higher percentage in countries considered poor or

less developed. Education continues to be a privilege of the
populations with the most resources, whether in Honduras or in the
world.
The percentages of people without education (illiterates) are trying to
be reduced in order to move out of underdevelopment to the states
with the most problems.

Honduras is one of the countries that contains the highest percentage

of illiteracy. But it is not as bad as other South American countries.

Illiteracy, for some countries, is almost as harmful and problematic as

hunger and poverty.

I also conclude that this is an excellent strategy to eradicate illiteracy

levels in our country.

SUGGESTIONS

To survive and advance, make decisions and solve problems in all

facets of personal, social, educational and professional life, individuals,
communities and nations need information about themselves as well
as their physical and social environments.
• Support the development of these literacy processes and in this way
this social problem, such as illiteracy, will be attacked.

• Integrate the teaching of Information and Media Literacy into Lifelong

Learning curricula.

• Recognize Information and Media Literacy and Lifelong Learning as

key elements for the development of generic capabilities that must be
demonstrated for the accreditation of all educational and training
programs.

• Implement Information and Media Literacy programs to increase the

professional opportunities and business capabilities of women and
marginalized groups, including emigrants, the unemployed and
underemployed.

• Support thematic meetings that facilitate the acquisition of Information

and Media Literacy and Lifelong Learning strategies within specific
regions, sectors and population groups.
