- The reason why this man died after drinking alcohol is that because he drank a large
quantity of alcohol in a very short time as he drank a 750ml of alcohol following the
alcohol challenge. So when you drink a large quantity of alcohol in a shorter time, what
happens is that you are most likely to get alcohol poisoning. Through alcohol poisoning
your stomach digests and absorbs alcohol, the alcohol then enters your bloodstream, so
your alcohol blood level tends to rise and then your liver breaks down the alcohol. But in
this man’s case, his blood alcohol levels are very high, so his liver is very overwhelmed
with it, which makes it hard for his liver to remove the toxins quickly enough. The extra
alcohol in the bloodstream is a depressant. That means it reduces normal function. In
this case, it affects the parts of the brain that control vital body functions, such as
breathing, heart rate, blood pressure and temperature. As blood alcohol continues to
rise, the depressant effect is more substantial.
