What is protected under the First Geneva Convention?

According to article-13, the following Wounded and Sick person are protected -
 Members of the armed forces
 Members of other militias and volunteer corps
 Members of organized resistance movements who-
 are commanded by a person responsible for his subordinates;
 have a fixed distinctive sign recognizable at a distance;
 carry arms openly;
 conduct their operations in accordance with the laws and customs of war.
 Persons who accompany the armed forces without actually being members thereof, such
as civilian members of military aircraft crews, war correspondents, supply contractors,
members of labour units.
 Members of crews including masters, pilots and apprentices of the merchant marine and
the crews of civil aircraft of the Parties to the conflict,
According to article 24- All medical personnel, exclusively engaged in the search, collection,
transport or treatment of the wounded or sick, shall be respected and protected in all circumstances.
According to article 25- Members of the armed forces specially trained for nursing, stretcher-
bearing, collecting and transporting the wounded and sick.
According to article 26- The staff of National Red Cross Societies and that of other Voluntary
Aid Societies.
According to article 35 -Transports of wounded and sick or of medical equipment shall be
respected and protected

How is this protection given?


According to article 12- All the aforementioned Members of the armed forces
 shall be respected and protected in all circumstances.
 shall be treated humanely
 shall be treated equally without any adverse distinction founded on sex, race, nationality,
religion, political opinions, or any other similar criteria
 shall not be murdered or exterminated,
 shall not be subjected to torture or to biological experiments;
 shall not willfully be left without medical assistance

According to article 50- the following acts will be treated as grave breaches-
 ‘wilful killing,
 torture or inhuman treatment,
 biological experiments,
 wilfully causing great suffering or serious injury to body or health,
 and extensive destruction and appropriation of property, not justified by military
necessity
and will be brought to justice under International Criminal Court (ICC) for committing war
crimes.
