The popularity of caffeinated coffee all over the world, particularly in the

Philippines has increased. Most people nowadays are having unhealthy

lifestyle when it comes to drinking coffee. It is true that caffeinated coffee

can improve memory, decrease fatigue, and can enhance mental

functioning. But it is also necessary to remember that like many enjoyable

treats, caffeinated coffee causes potential health risks when consumed in

excess due to its high caffeine content. Many people experience insomnia,

restlessness, heart palpitations, high blood pressure, and anxiety from the

caffeine in coffee. Hence, the demands for coffee substitutes have been

rising due to the adverse health effects of caffeine and due to increasing

demand for healthier lifestyle.

Solution

This business will produce coffee mix that is healthy and made from organic

ingredients. It develops an organic coffee product with a twist that will catch

the attention of coffee lovers and that is new to their taste. The product is not

just an ordinary coffee. It is made of dried, roasted, and ground okra seeds

and enriched its taste with lemon flavor. It is a low-calorie coffee, has low

acid, and has no saturated fats or cholesterol which is good for the people

who maintain a healthy lifestyle. In other words, this business venture

concentrates in creating non-caffeinated coffee product. It is assured that this

are the target market because they are most likely to drink coffee. Therefore,

it is much better for them to buy and drink this okra seed-lemon coffee mix

as their alternative coffee drink in order for them to maintain their blood

pressure, to prevent hypertension, and to stay healthy.

Competition

This business will compete with large and known existing companies that

offer organic and non-caffeinated coffee too (i.e., Nescafe Decaf, MX3, and

Glutalipo). But what makes this business different from them is that it uses

100% organic and natural dried okra seeds with lemon flavor and has an

appealing aroma. Its main weakness is that the production process is quite

time-consuming because it takes several days for the seeds to dry under the

sun, depending on the weather condition. However, it may obtain an

which gives a mild central nervous system and metabolic stimulant that

restore one’s alertness. However, an excessive intake of caffeinated coffee

can impair sleep and can lead to irregular heartbeat and restlessness. In a

nutshell, too much consumption of coffee with caffeine can cause potential

health risks. In this time of global health crisis, health can be improved and

developed if one learns and contemplates what is good and right for his

body, just as he would when selecting a coffee drink. Coffee that is

substantial in health benefits, guaranteed, no added preservatives and

chemical-free product, and uses locally-sourced ingredients is very

important to consider. This is why the business has decided to produce a

healthy coffee made from organic okra seeds with lemon flavor. This is to

ensure that customers are kept safe and healthy, even when drinking coffee.

The product of this business can definitely alleviate customers’ health

concerns. It is far better compared to other coffee powder products because

potassium, Vitamin B6 and Vitamin C. It will help people with hypertension

to lower their blood pressure and to regulate their blood sugar level. It is a

perfect drink before breakfast, in afternoon after snack time, and even before

bed time. If customers want to elevate its taste, they may add some sugar,

honey extract, or powdered milk when they mixed it with hot water. Thus,

the company ensures the high quality of the product and its nutritional

benefits so that coffee drinkers can still drink coffee while maintaining a

healthy lifestyle and without providing negative effects on their health even

when consumed in excess. However, this business will also offer okra

chocolate moist cupcake that is perfect partner for coffee. It will serve as this

with more added sugar which is perfect for sweet lovers, and the one is

baked with less sugar which is suitable to those who are diabetic or who are

in a diet. Lastly, it will be sold per box (6 pieces of cupcakes in each box).

The size of the store is 24 square meters at Barangay Ocampo Rivera, Jaen,

Nueva Ecija. The place is easy to find and will be seen when customers pass

by the road. The store has a minimalist design to make it look clean. It is

surrounded by dress shops and restaurant.

Social media will be used as a means of promotion. Given the tremendous

power and reach of social media platforms, using them as the primary

advertising medium will be quite beneficial. Advertisements on Facebook

will readily reach youthful generations, and this could be a means to pique

their interest. Instagram videos and posts will assist the brand in reaching

celebrities, who may then become product endorsers in the future when the

business is growing. Because of their strong involvement with the app,

Opening this business benefits three people: the entrepreneur, the workers,

and the consumers. Having said that, this business will open its door to the

unemployed individuals who seek jobs in the middle of a pandemic. The

proposed product is suitable for people of all gender, occupation, and

income level since it is affordable and beneficial. Specifically, the target

market are teenagers, middle-aged people, senior citizens, PWDs, and

pregnant women.

Process

The chosen okra farmer and lemon supplier will deliver the matured or full-

grown okras and lemons to the warehouse. The production process starts in

removing the okra seeds from the okra pods. The okra pods will be set aside

to be used by baker in baking cupcakes. After removing, they will be

processed through a dry method wherein the okra seeds will be placed under

the sun and will let them dry. For the lemon powder, the lemons will be

thinly sliced and placed also under the sun. In case there is no sunlight due to

bad weather condition or rainy season, this business will use microwave

oven as an alternative drying method for the seeds and sliced lemons. After

drying, the seeds will undergo the roasting process for them to be cooked

and to bring out the aroma and flavor. Then, the dried and roasted okra seeds

lemon using mortar and pestle. After that, integrate and mix the lemon

powder and the ground okra seeds into big container for them to be ready for

packaging.

The location in which the product will be manufactured is not only attractive

to the eyes, but also clean and environmentally friendly. For the benefit of

young and young-at-heart clients, the layout of the physical store minimalist

and “instagrammable”. To fit the image of the company, the employees will

the product, this business will use resealable pouch kraft packaging that is

water-resistant and has simple yet fascinating design. Each packaging will

A. Manufacturing/Sourcing of Goods or Service Delivery Process

The suppliers deliver the needed raw materials in the warehouse. The raw

materials (i.e., okras and lemons) will be then prepared for the production.

Removers will manually remove the seeds from okras’ pod. The seeds will

be ready for drying (5 days), roasting (8 minutes, in a medium heat), and

grinding. For the lemon powder, the lemons will be sliced and placed also

under the sun. The dried lemon slices will also undergo in the process of

grinding and sifting. After that, combined ground okra seeds and lemon

powder in a big, single container. Then the mixed ground okra seeds and

lemon will be packaged into its packaging. However, the potential consumer

incorporate direct selling. It will also establish its online store on Shopee

for a wide access to customers.

This method of payment that this business prefers is the first payment

process which is receiving money from customers. The payment may

be in the form of cash and mobile payment (GCash). For those who

directly buy to the physical outlet, payment is done physically. And

for those who ordered on Shopee, payment may be through GCash or

Cash on Delivery.

Job Selection Process

Qualified applicants will be selected through posting job descriptions

and implement recruitment plan in order to ensure the accuracy of each

job. The next process is to review the resumé of applicants and develop

shortlisting or screening in order to identify whose application will be

matched with the requirements of each position. It is followed by face-

to-face interview to help the employer know more the information of

applicant. After the interview analysis, the employer must hire the

applicant who successfully passed the interview. Then the employer will

notify the hired applicants to inform them about the salary and start date.

The employer will communicate and disseminate job offers in public

through word-of-mouth recruiting in which the employer will inform

his interested neighbors and residents of his barangay about the job

that lie outside their normal responsibilities. For example, providing

The building is one-storey that consists of three sections; the production

area, baking area, and transaction area. It will use minimalist design in

equipments or machinery that are essential for this business are bilao,

frying pan, gas stove and LPG tank, turner spatula, food processor,

hand mixer, microwave oven, and baking tray. Below is the purpose and

use of the machines and equipments.

Bilao – is used for winnowing and drying okra seeds and lemon under the

sun.

Frying pan – is used to roast okra seeds.

Gas stove and LPG tank – produces heat that helps to cook and roast dried

okra seeds.

The coffee business is rapidly increasing according to value line, and this

business is unique to all coffee business because of the benefits and

experience that customers can get from it - from the aroma, perfect blend of

taste, fine granules, up to its health benefits. Given that the business is a

start-up one, the owners assume inconvenience at the beginning of the

operation. The risks involved is low sales at the beginning due to the

minimal popularity of the business. Also, it will be difficult to have adequate

supply of okra and lemon every typhoon season. Another risk is the rainy

season in which the drying process will be difficult. To address it, the owner

should identify alternative drying method for the seeds and lemon slices

(e.g., using microwave oven). However, people may patronize this business
