THE CREED

 It is a profession of FAITH
 It is a summary of the TRUTHS of Faith of Catholics
 It is our CONVICTION
 It is the Prayer in Latin: CREDO = I BELIEVE
 The first Christians met in secret because they were persecuted for professing their FAITH.
 They met in caves, Christian houses, subways, basements, attics....
 They went to the teaching of the apostles , to communion, to the breaking of bread, to prayers
and praise.
 They read and meditated on the letters and writings of the apostles
 They lived together and had everything in common ; They sold their possessions and goods and
distributed them among everyone, according to each one's needs.
 His profession of faith was the Apostles' Creed.
 And for this profession of Faith they were willing to give their lives.
 The truths of our Catholic faith are found in “the prayer of the Creed.”
 The Creed is what we Catholics believe. It is the Symbol that identifies us.
 If someone from another religion asks us what do Catholics believe?
 We can answer him with what we pray in the Creed.
 It is like a summary of our religion.
 It is divided into three parts:
 First Divine Person (The Father) and his work of creation.
 Second Divine Person (The Son) and Mystery of Redemption.
 Third Divine Person (The Holy Spirit) source and principle of our sanctification.

 These 3 parts contain 12 articles that cover the main truths that Catholics believe in.
 Each Truth in the Creed is called an Article:
 God the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and Earth.
 Jesus Christ, only Son of God, is God of God
 Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of Mary the Virgin.
 Jesus was crucified, died and buried.
 Jesus descended into hell and on the third day was resurrected.
 6. Jesus ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father.
 Jesus will come to judge the living dead.
 The Holy Spirit is Lord and giver of life, of the Trinitarian nature
 The one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church and the communion of saints.
 Forgiveness of sins.
 The resurrection of the dead.
 Eternal life.
THE CREED: ITS STRUCTURE

The structure of the creed contains the foundations of our faith in the triune God; since it expresses to us:

• First: Faith in God the Father, Creator.

• Second: Faith in Jesus Christ, God and true man, in which we affirm that Jesus is the Son of
God and of the virgin Mary and Mother, according to the flesh. Redeemer by his incarnation,
passion, death and resurrection, he ascended to heaven and will come as judge of the world.
• Third: faith in the Holy Spirit and its sanctifying action in the present, through the Church, and in
the future of eternal life.
When we say: “I believe you,” it means “I trust you and I am convinced that you speak the truth,” and when
we say: “I believe in what you say,” it means that I am convinced that the content of your words
corresponds to objective reality.” (John Paul II)
