BIOGRAPHY OF FATHER CARLOS POZZO

He was born in Italy on March 28, 1918. It was a late vocation that he entered the Jesuit
order on April 21, 1946. He arrived in Arequipa in 1957.
The earthquakes, the unstoppable immigration, initially created the slums, a belt of misery;
who found their response in the work and spirit of Father Pozzo.

In response to the 1960 earthquake. Father Pozzo and CIRCA, with the help of public
officials who are friends of his work, created “MUTUAL AID” for the construction of
minimum housing. Thus, with a revolving fund, 6,500 families were able to build their
houses of iron, brick and cement.

Education being one of the pillars to achieve the development of the least disadvantaged
population, the construction of schools was another of the jobs that it has carried out with
the greatest insistence in 45 years of existence.

To this end, it is available to train and educate its residents, especially the young people
who are and will be the true protagonists of change.
