1. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT


Horticulture production is part of the sustainability plan of Howard Hospital. However, there is
need to protect need the crops grown, from abiotic and biotic stress factors, some of which are
caused by climate change. Protection of crops from adverse weather conditions allows year-
round production and the application of an integrated crop production and crop management
approach for better control over pests and diseases. Howard hospital would like to construct a
8m X 25m metal frame greenhouse structure, and we are kindly requesting for financial support
to the tune of $3740.00 inclusive of 10% contingency. Plant population for the green house will
be, tomatoes and cucumbers 584 plants and for pepper 834 plants. Expected average yield per
plant 15kg tomatoes and 15 fruits per cucumbers as well as 4kg per plant for pepper. Average
selling price for most horticultural crops at the market $1 per kg or per fruit for cucumbers. This
means the project can raise a minimum of $8760.00 per quarter.

3. DESCRIPTION OF BENEFICIARIES
The implementation of this project will benefit both the Ministry of Health and child care and
the Salvation Army to continue offering health care services to the community. The marginalized
population of Mazowe district in need of health services, will benefit from the project.
Vegetable vendors and the community will also benefit from the project.

13. CONCLUSION

In summary

<We are requesting support from Women’s Ministries for the construction of a metal frame
greenhouse.

<The cost of the greenhouse is $3740.00 inclusive of 10% contingency.

<This project is aimed at raising for the hospital a minimum of $8670.00 per quarter.

<We believe that the context in which we are operating makes such a project an imperative.
