Activity No. 1: Functions of Art

Instructions

1. Search the internet for Philippine artworks, of any kind (visual, auditory, literary, or
performance art), that represent the various functions of art. Ensure that these
artworks are crafted by Filipino artists.
2. Provide at least one example of artwork for each function.
3. Write a brief explanation of why you believe the given artwork fits the function to
which you categorized it.
4. Do not forget to cite the artwork. Here’s a guide on how to properly cite an artwork
using an APA format:

Citing an artwork typically involves mentioning the artist's name, the title of the
artwork, the date it was created (if known), the medium used, the institution or
collection where it is housed (if applicable), and the URL or location where it can be
accessed (if applicable).

Here's a general example in APA format:

II. Social Function

Victorio Edades' "The Builders" is a


significant artwork in Philippine art history.
Completed in 1928, it marked a departure
from the prevailing academic style of
painting at the time and is considered the
first modernist work in Philippine art. "The
Builders" depicts muscular laborers
working on a construction site, using
broad brushstrokes and bold colors to
convey movement and energy. The

strength of the workers as they toil under

IV. Political Function

Maid in Malacañang is a 2022 Filipino


period drama film written and directed by

V. Cultural Function

Bayanihan, a beautiful celebration of


Filipino community spirit, was painted by
the renowned muralist and National Artist
Carlos “Botong” Francisco in 1962. This
