Chapter 1 “A Letter to God”

A Letter to God” is a story by G.L. Fuentes about a poor farmer named Lencho who
strongly believes in God. The story explores the concept of belief and faith people
have in their spiritual deities, the belief that God will not let them die, he will help
them in situations of need.

Chapter 2 “ Nelson Mandela….”

Long Walk to Freedom is an autobiography by South Africa’s first democratically


elected President Nelson Mandela. The moral of the story is that the oppressor
and the oppressed both lose humanity.

Chapter 3 “Two Stories About Flying”

The two stories that tell us about courage and tireless effort. (Common line for
any of the two stories)

In the first story, “His First Flight” by Liam O'Flaherty, a seagull conquers his
flight possible and he learns to fly.

In the second story, the writer Fredrick Forsyth gives an account of his own
experience. It teaches about the importance of facing one's fears bravely and
boldly and one should always inculcate the spirit of never give up attitude to attain
success.

Chapter 4 “From the Diary of Anne Frank”

From the Diary of the Anne Frank was a diary written by Anne Frank. He was a
German born Jewish girl. It is one of the world’s most widely known books.

Chapter 5 “Glimpses of India”

Glimpses of India consists of 3 parts; the authors are Lucio Rodrigues, Lokesh
Abrol and Arup Kumar Datta, respectively.

A Baker from Goa revolves around the relevance of a baker in the Goan culture
which dates back to the time when the Portuguese ruled over the city of Goa.
Coorg, also known as Kodagu, is a district in the state of Karnataka in India. It is
known for its picturesque landscapes, coffee plantations, and rich cultural
heritage.

The last one is Tea from Assam by Arup Kumar Datta. This story is about two
friends exploring the tea gardens of Assam and also learning the legends behind it.

Chapter 6 “Mijbil The Otter”

The author of the story is Gavin Maxwell. In this story, the writer tells us how his
life altered after he decided to keep an otter. Here he is taking us through his
journey and his experiences with Mijbil (or Mij) the otter. The journey begins from
Iraq to London and via a flight.

Chapter 7 “Madam Rides the Bus”

"Madam Rides the Bus" is a story about a woman named Mrs. Dorling who decides
to ride the bus to her destination instead of taking a taxi. Along the way, she
encounters various interesting characters and experiences the joys and challenges
of public transportation.

Chapter 8 “The Sermon of Benares”

The Sermon Benares is a story by Betty Renshaw. The lesson highlights on the
universal truth that suffering and death are inevitable aspect of human life.

Chapter 9 “The Proposal”

The Proposal is a one-act play that begins with a young man, Lomov presenting a
marriage proposal to his neighbour’s daughter. All the three characters Lomov,
Chubukov and Natalya get argumentative and they argue about petty issues.
Towards the end the proposal is formed.
