Biblical Worldview Integration:

As Christians, our communication should always be purposeful and meaningful. Proverbs
16:24 says, "Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones."
When designing an audio-based presentation, we should carefully consider the purpose

and intended impact of our message. We can use design elements, such as tone of voice,
storytelling techniques, and effective use of pauses or emphasis, to convey our message
with clarity, authenticity, and impact. By prioritizing purposeful communication, we can
strive to bring hope, encouragement, and positive transformation through our
presentations.

 Define and discuss the concept of intonation.
 Explore how intonation can convey different emotions and meanings in spoken
language.
 b. Non-Verbal Sounds:
 Discuss the role of non-verbal sounds, such as sighs, laughter, and gasps, in
communication.

3
UNIT PLAN - LESSON PLAN
COMMUNICATION ARTS XI
YEAR 2023-24

 Engage students in an activity where they create non-verbal sounds to express

specific moods or ideas.
 Facilitate a group discussion on how intonation and non-verbal sounds can
enhance or alter the meaning of a spoken narrative.

 Activity 3: Origins of the Radio Play:

 a. Introduction to Radio Plays:
 Define what a radio play is and its characteristics.
 Discuss how radio plays rely on sound to tell a story without visual cues.

 b. Historical Overview:
 Provide a brief history of the origins of radio plays, including their popularity
during the golden age of radio.
 Discuss how radio plays evolved as a form of entertainment and storytelling.

 c. Listening to a Radio Play Excerpt:

 Play a short excerpt from a classic radio play to give students a sense of the aural
storytelling experience.

 Activity 4: Application and Practice:

 Have students work in pairs to create a short aural narrative using intonation,
non-verbal sounds, and voice modulation.
 Each pair will present their narrative to the class, and the class will discuss the
effectiveness of their communication.

 Conclusion and Review:

 Summarize the key points of the lesson.
 Reinforce the importance of aural communication in various forms, including radio
plays.
 Assign a short reflection on the significance of aural communication in storytelling.

Evaluation of Learning: [penilaian]

● Evaluate student performance through their participation in reading aloud
activities, group discussions, and the creation of a short aural narrative. Assess
their understanding of the impact of intonation and non-verbal sounds on
communication.

 perform a radio play

Instructional Methods: [kegiatan pembelajaran]

 Activity 1: More about radio plays
 In order to familiarize your students a bit more to the radio drama genre, the class
will listen to one or more short radio plays. If time is tight, students can do this
while doing another quiet activity.

Crafting Audio Magic: Design
Principles in Action

Learning Objectives: [tujuan pembelajaran]

 Produce a creative radio drama using design principles and elements.
 Evaluate the effectiveness of radio dram based on design principles and elements.

Instructional Methods: [kegiatan pembelajaran]

 Activity 1: Setting the Stage
 Brainstorming: Begin by discussing the power of audio in storytelling and
presentation. Ask students to share their favorite audio-based content (podcasts,
audiobooks, radio dramas) and what makes them engaging.
 Design Principles: Introduce the concept of design principles and elements in
audio production. Explain how these principles can be used to structure and
enhance an audio presentation. Briefly discuss examples like contrast (loud vs.
soft), repetition (catchphrases), rhythm (pacing), variation (voice modulation), and
unity (cohesive theme).

 Activity 2: Design in Action

 Creative Challenge: Divide students into pairs or small groups and assign them
a creative audio presentation topic (e.g., book review, historical event, personal
story, social issue). Each group will choose a format (interview, narrative,
soundscape, etc.) and brainstorm how to incorporate design principles into their
presentation.
 Storyboarding: Encourage groups to sketch or write a storyboard outlining their
presentation structure, highlighting where they will use specific design elements.
This helps them visualize and plan their audio journey.
 Production Tips: Briefly offer practical tips for audio recording (clear voice,
background noise reduction, simple editing techniques).

 Activity 3: Recording and Revision

 Let's Create! Allow students to record their audio presentations using available
software or devices. Encourage them to experiment with different voices, sound
effects, and music to bring their design principles to life.
 Peer Feedback: After recording, have students listen to each other's
presentations and provide constructive feedback focusing on the use of design
principles. This helps them identify areas for improvement and learn from each

other's creativity.

 Conclusion:
 Evaluation Rubric: Provide students with a rubric outlining the criteria for
evaluating the audio presentations based on the design principles covered (e.g.,
clarity, effective use of contrast, variety, etc.).
 Self-Reflection: Ask students to reflect on their own presentation and how they
used design principles. What worked well? What could be improved? Encourage
them to think about how they can apply these principles to future audio projects.

Evaluation of Learning: [penilaian]

● Creativity and effectiveness of the audio presentation
● Incorporation and explanation of design principles
● Peer feedback and self-reflection
● Optional presentation to a wider audience
