FINGERPRINT STUDY

Fingerprint is the impression made by the papillary ridges on the ends of the
fingers and thumbs.

THREE MAIN CLASSES OF FINGERPRINT

● Loop fingerprint
● Arch fingerprint
● Whorl fingerprint

THE MOST COMMON AND RAREST FINGERPRINT PATTERN

THE MOST COMMON


The loop is the the most common fingerprint with sixty to sixty five percent in
population.

THE RAREST
The Arch is the least common (rarest) fingerprint with about five percent in
population.

● Microscope slide (or other smooth, flat object)


● Fingerprint powder or any fine powder (such as talcum powder, cornstarch,
or cocoa powder)
● Fingerprint brush (or any small brush with very soft bristles)
● Clear tape

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE LATENT AND PATENT FINGER PRINT

Patent prints are impressions of prints usually transferred using some type of
fluid or chemical, like blood or paint.

Latent prints on the other hand, are formed by the natural oils in one’s skin and
transferred by the friction of touch.
