COURSE OVERVIEW:
This course aims to sensitize the students towards societal needs and use their skill sets and
knowledge acquired to contribute towards society. It will help enhance their teamwork
capabilities; leadership skills and it may also inculcate a sense of community services at large.

COURSE OUTCOMES (COs):


On completion of the course, the student will be able to

1. Understand problems of community/society, cross cultural context ; their challenges and


develop better sense of social responsibility
2. Improve interpersonal, social, communication skills by meeting people with common
interests and goals
3. Enhance the fulfilment of ongoing and continuous learning and intellectual curiosity
through independent learning exercises.
4. Improve their leadership skills and team spirit by engaging themselves in activities for the
benefit of the society
5. Apply effective, creative and innovative solutions to the problems that require community
engagement

ORIENTATION AND MOTIVATION:


1. Orientation will be conducted in the first week of the first semester.
2. Students will be given insights of the course and introduction about the University
Extension and Field Outreach (EFO) at NSUT.
3. They will be apprised how they can contribute towards betterment of the society.
4. Students shall be motivated and made aware about the objectives of these courses.

COURSE ENROLLMENT:
1. Students have to first get enrolled into this course.
2. The Enrolment process for the course will start in the FIRST Semester
3. The enrolment of the students will be done through google form or any other
mean as appropriate.
4. Faculty coordinator will be allotted to students to mentor/supervise their work
for extension and outreach throughout.

COURSE CONTENT:
1. After Enrolment to this course, in order to carry this course, the student first needs to find
an organization to work with.

2. The student should explore and decide whether he/she will be working with an NGO or
work under the guidance of a faculty at NSUT who is involved in community activities.

3. The students can contribute in any of the following areas:

- Community education system


- Legal literacy
- Social, Gender issues and inclusiveness
- Environment
- Communal harmony and peace education
- Human rights and rights of vulnerable groups
- Health, Sanitation and hygiene
- Upskilling
- Digital literacy
- Self sustainability etc.

The list is only illustrative and not exhaustive

4. The student has to contribute 80 hrs towards community engagement in a period of ONE
year, for the completion of this course.

5. The students are also required to keep a record of their work. They need to submit a
completion certificate duly signed by the supervisor in the organization where he has
completed his course work

COURSE REGISTRATION:
Students will register for this course in the 3rd semester at CUMS.

COURSE EVALUATION:
1. The Evaluation of the course will be done in the THIRD semester.
2. The evaluation will be done on the basis of report, presentation etc.
3. Students have to submit completion certification, indicating that they have contributed
80 Hrs towards community work in the domain, duly signed by competent authority
(supervisor form NGO/Faculty members as the case may be).
