Legal Aid to Burhanuddin/12th District Mohammadi Masjid/ Kandahar/ Bayyalai Azizi@AWSDC

Burhan-ul-Din, son of Ghaws-Ul-Din is hailing from Farah province's Parchaman district. He is

married with three sons and two daughters. His children are Marina (11 years old), Rafiullah (9
years old), Emran (8 years old), Fariha (5 years old), and Elham (2 years old). Previously, he
resided on Kachra Road, Pashtoon Abad, Quetta, Baluchistan Pakistan for over 20 years, where
he worked as a laborer.

Due to the Pakistani government's pressure on the refugees to repatriate, he along with his family
were compelled to return to Afghanistan. Despite the ongoing issues in Afghanistan, he says he
delayed their return until the situation forced their hands to do so. He says during his time in
Pakistan, they were marginalized as refugees and faced challenges such as being unable to enroll
their children in school due to the lack of civil documentation.

Upon their return, they encountered difficulties at the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, where they
experienced disrespect from the FC authorities and endured an unexplained delay of over 5 hours
before being permitted to cross. Presently, they reside in the PD 12 of Kandahar city. They are
living in rented house while striving to secure permanent shelter. Burhan-ul-din currently works
as a laborer to support his family.

Burhan says upon their return to Afghanistan, obtaining E-Tazkeras posed a significant obstacle
as they were unfamiliar with the process. Fortunately, during an awareness session in Kandahar
city, they were met by the AWSDC team, to whom they expressed their predicament. The
UNHCR supported Program under the legal assistance component assisted Burhan in re-
registering and obtaining they E-Tazkeras through the support of AWSDC partner busy in the
field. He further said that legal team is supporting him in acquiring birth certificates for his
children, Fariha and Elham.

Burhan says:

“We are immensely grateful to AWSDC and UNHCR for their invaluable aid in acquiring our E-
Tazkeras. The financial assistance provided by UNHCR, amounting to 1,500 AFG per document,
was instrumental in covering the associated expenses. Without this support, we would have
struggled to afford the necessary documentation”.
