RULES OF THE GAME:

The game lasts for approximately 50 minutes.

ROUND 1: CONNECTIONS

Teams choose a hieroglyph from the 6 available. They will then be given up to 4 clues to deduce the
possible connection. Teams have a time limit of 40 seconds to give an answer. Clues are shown at
the team’s request, by saying “next please), and they press the buzzer when they want to answer.

Giving a correct answer awards 10 points if the team came in after 1 clue, and 6, 4 and 2 points for
coming in after 2, 3 and 4 clues respectively.

Giving an incorrect answer does not result in any penalty to the team, however, the opposing team
will get to see all 4 clues and a bonus chance to answer. A correct answer awards the opposing team
2 points.

The team that scores higher in this round will gain a bonus card for use in Round 4 or 5. If both
teams are tied, both teams receive the card.

ROUND 2: SEQUENCES

This is similar to round 1. However, this time teams must guess the 4th clue. It is alright if the
connection they think is incorrect, as long as they give the correct 4th clue, they score the points.
Teams have 30 seconds per question in this round.

Giving a correct answer awards 10 points if the team came in after 1 clue, and 6 and 4 points for
coming in after 2 and 3 clues respectively.

Giving an incorrect answer does not result in any penalty to the team, however, the opposing team
will get to see all 3 clues and a bonus chance to answer. A correct answer awards the opposing team
2 points (not 4).

The team that scores higher in this round will gain a bonus card for use in Round 4 or 5. If both
teams are tied, both teams receive the card.

ROUND 3: CONNECTING WALL

In this round, teams have 2 minutes 30 seconds to resolve a wall of 16 clues into 4 groups of 4 clues,
each of which have a connection. There is only 1 solution per puzzle (ie there is no other way to sort
the 16 clues), although there may be a ‘trick group’, 4 clues across the board that may have a
connection but is not part of the correct solution.

Teams score 2 points for every group of 4 found, and a bonus of 2 points for completing the wall. In
addition, there is another 2 points for naming the connection of every group of 4, with 2 bonus
points if they get all 4 connections. The maximum score in this round is thus 20.

The team that scores higher in this round will gain a bonus card for use in Round 4 or 5. If both
teams are tied, both teams receive the card.
ROUND 4: BUZZ IN

In this round, there are 2 connection questions, followed by 2 sequence questions. Teams will see
the clues at the same time. 1 clue is revealed every 10 seconds, and teams buzz in when they think
they know the answer.

Giving a correct answer awards 10 points if the team came in after 1 clue, and 6, 4 and 2 points for
coming in after 2, 3 and 4 clues (for connections only) respectively.

Giving an incorrect answer results in half the point value in play for the question at that time being
deducted from the team’s score. For example, if the team comes in after 2 clues and is wrong, they
lose 3 points (half of 6). In addition, the opposing team can have a bonus chance to answer the
question, and the clues are displayed at their request, much like round 1 and 2. A correct answer
here, offers half the point value in play at that time. For example, coming in after 3 clues at this stage
scores the team 2, instead of the full 4 points.

Using the bonus card here scores the team 15, 9, 6 and 3 points for coming in after 1, 2, 3 and 4
clues respectively. However, penalties are doubled, meaning the team could lose 10, 6, 4 and 2
points for coming in wrongly after 1, 2, 3 and 4 clues respectively. The opposing team can still
answer for bonus points as well. The bonus card can only be used for first time answering, and not
for bonus attempts.

The team that scores higher in this round will gain a bonus card for use in Round 5. If both teams are
tied, both teams receive the card.

ROUND 5: MISSING VOWELS

This is a buzz in round. The teams will see a phrase with all its vowels removed, and the spacings
scrambled to make it harder to decipher the actual word. They are in categorical groups of 4.

Buzzing in and answering correctly earns the team 1 point and an incorrect answer results in a
deduction of 1 point. The opposing team gets a bonus chance to answer, with a correct answer
earning the team 1 point, and no penalty for an incorrect answer. Sweeping the category (answering
the entire group correctly) earns the team an additional bonus point.

Using the bonus card earns the team 2 points for a correct answer, with no change to the penalty for
an incorrect answer. Sweeping the category in which the bonus card was used also earns the team 2
bonus points rather than 1.

This round lasts 4 minutes, or until the runtime of the game hits 50 minutes – whichever is longer.
Gameplay Example:

Round 1:

Q1: Team A gets answer wrong after 2 clues. Team B is given bonus chance with all 4 clues, and gets
it right. Team B scores 2 points.

Q2: Team B gets answer correct after 3 clues, scores 4 points

Q3: Team A gets answer right after 4 clues, scores 2 points

Q4: Team B gets answer right after 4 clues, scores 2 points

Q5: Team A gets answer right after 3 clues, scores 4 points

Q6: Team B gets answer wrong after 4 clues, team A also gets it wrong. No one scores points.
