Wabrend die Wiener Handschrift ein ,Prélude” und die Tanz-Satze wAllemande ~ Courante ~ Sarabande - Angloise” aufweist,enthalt die Londoner Fassung kein Priludiuea, dafir zusitalich ein Menuet” und eine ,Passacaille”. Das hier vorliegende Priludium, in beiden Hand- schriften ohne Takteinteilung, ist in der Londoner Tabulatur einer anderen Suite in D zugeordnet ‘Aus metrischen Griinden (angedeutete Taktstriche) hat der Heraus- geber sich erlaubt, an drei Stellen des Pridudiums Verinderungen vorzunehmen, Diese sind im Faksimile (Seite 6) mit* gekennzeichnet Foreword, ‘The tablature manuscripts ofthis ,Suite in "by Sitvius Leopold Weiss are to be found in the Music Collection of the Austiian National Library/Vienna (Cod. 18829) and in the British Museum/London. ‘Whereas the Vienna manuscript has a ”Prélude” and the dance move- ments "Allemande - Courante - Sarabande ~ Angloise”, the London ‘version lacks the Prelude but has twoadditional movements, a”"Menuet” and a "Passacaille”. The Prelucle, which is printed in this edition, appears as part of another Suite in D in the London tablature. Tt is unbarred in both manuscripts. For metrical reasons (bar lines indicated) the editor has taken the liberty of making alterations in three places in the Pretade.
