Mth301 Assignment#2

Question 1:
Find the partical velocity and acceleration of motion at t=1 when the position of a
particle in space at time t is R(t )  ti  (t 2 j  2tk

Solution
To find the velocity, we need to take the first derivative of the position vector R(t) with
respect to time:

R(t )  ti  (t 2 j  2tk
dR(t ) d
v(t )   (ti  t 2 j  2tk )
dt dt
v(t )  i  2tj  2k

Now, evaluate the velocity at t=1:

v(1)  i  2(1) j  2k
v(1)  i  2 j  2k

To find the acceleration, we need to take the second derivative of the position vector R(t) with
respect to time:

dv(t ) d
a(t )   (i  2tj  2k )
dt dt
a(t )  0i  2 j  0k
a(t )  2 j

The acceleration is constant and does not depend on t. Therefore, at t=1:

a(1)  2 j
