ASHTON HAYES PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWS

ISSUE 10 / AUTUMN TERM 2011 / THURSDAY 1ST DECEMBER 2011

Christmas is coming...!
Now that it is December, I can ofcially talk about Christmas! When I was younger, I used to look forward to Blue Peter making their advent crown out of two wire coat hangers...I still remember the warnings they used to offer over making sure the tinsel was re proof! I hope you have an exciting advent time...a lovely time for children when they look forward to the magic of Christmas. We hope they will enjoy all the festivities we have organised for them at the end of term. The children are already enjoying practising the singing for the various events that will be happening before the end of term. I would like to remind you of a few events that we have coming up in the last couple of weeks of term. Details of these are found on the next page.

Year 1 working hard with their weighing work!

Merit Badge Winners

Well done to the following children who have won merit badges in the past two weeks. Conrad Irlam, Emma Varey, Owen Salmon, Liam Jackson, Tom Farrow, Amber Lightfoot, Charlotte Salmon, James Owen, Harry Jeffries, Oliver AucklandLewis In addition, the classes work together to earn pebbles which they put in a jar. When the jar is full, the whole class have earnt a treat. I know that most of the jars are looking very full, so I hope to see their treats very soon! The children continue to be earning stickers for great work, behaviour and attitude in their classes. When they reach 25, 50, 75, etc they receive a bronze, silver, gold, etc award to recognise their achievements.

HEALTHY SNACKS

I hope I have your support with this one... We try to encourage the children to lead a healthy lifestyle in school, this includes talking about exercise, drinking water and healthy eating. I have noticed that some unhealthy snacks are appearing at playtimes during the past weeks. I would like the children to come to school with a healthy snack

that they can enjoy at playtimes. Examples of these include: pieces of fruit/vegetables, prepared fruit in packets, cereal bars, yogurt (tube-type are easier to eat at playtimes), smoothie/juice, crackers/cheese...

I would suggest that one snack is enough for the children (some children have been seen juggling several pieces of toast, drinks, crisps, etc). In addition, snacks are available from the school kitchen. These snacks have been judged to be healthy by nutritionalists working with Cheshire West and Chester Catering Services. Thank you.

A big thank you for all the donations you have sent in to school so far for the Christmas Fair. Members of the PTFA have been working in school all Thursday morning with the wrapping of presents, tombola cups, etc. Many thanks too for their time. We are still in need of some more helpers on the day with the setting up and tidying up of the Fair, this year in the Village Hall. Please call into school or contact Karen Liddle (07816 978782) if you are able to spare an hour or two of your time. The junior children have been practising some songs to welcome you into the Fair on Friday afternoon. I would like as many children as possible to meet me at the Village Hall at 4.45 on Friday, ready to sing! If they have Christmas hats/reindeer antlers etc, these would look great too!
ROAD SAFETY
The Parish Council have received a number of complaints from local residents about the parking outside the school. I appreciate that this is made worse at the moment with contractors and staff parking, as well as a yellow minibus taking up space. This should improve in the New Year. In the mean time, I am grateful for those parking at the WI Hall, Village Hall and Church. I continue to be concerned with the speed of trafc passing the school. The police have been stopping a signicant number of motorists in the past months. Please continue to pass on the message that the speed limit is 30mph...and there is a very good reason for this...
