introduction
Isotopes are same atoms with the same number of
protons but different number of neutrons

let’s not be complicated, you can assume this

isotopes as twins/triplets.

03 RELATIVE ATOMIC MASS
— to calculate the atomic mass
- depends on the Natural Abudance of isotopes
in a sample.

04 NATURAL ABUDANCE
Natural Abudance is the percentage of isotopes
present in a natural sample of element.

gold, silver, diamond, etc.

USES OF ISOTOPES
MEDICINE ARCHEOLOGY
Cobalt-60 -Kill cancer cell without Carbon-14 - estimation of artefacts or
surgery (radiotherapy) fossils age
Iodine-131 - treatment of thyroid Lead-201 - Determinig the age of sand
disoders (hyperthyroidism and thyroid and earth layer up to 80 years
cancer)

AGRICULTURE INDUSTRY
Phosphorus-32 - Study of plant Hydrogen-3 -As a detector of
metabolism study sewage and liquid waste

NUCLEAR ENGINEERING
Uranium-235 - Generating Sodium-14 - Detect leekage in
electricity trough nuclear power underground pipes

GENERAL
CONCLUSIONS
CONCLUSIONS
Isotopes are members of a family of an element that all
have the same number of protons but different numbers
of neutrons.

Isotopes have unique properties, and these properties

make them useful in diagnostics and treatment
applications. They are important in nuclear medicine, oil
and gas exploration, basic research, and national
security.
