REFLECTION PAPER ON SIKOLOHINGA IPR ACTIVTY 2023

April 02, 2023, marks the culmination of one of the most anticipated activities of the
Psychology Student Circle called the SikoloHinga Inter-Personal Relationship (IPR) Team
Building Activity 2023. The one-day activity was spearheaded by the PSC Officers and was
enthusiastically participated and attended by every psychology student, from freshmen to senior
years. It may sound just like a typical organizational activity but this has carved memories and
brought new experiences and realizations to everyone as part of the growing family of the
psychology program of Central Mindanao University.

On a personal note, as a freshman, this activity honestly overwhelmed me as this was

my first time to directly interact with other psychology students from different levels and blocks,
aside from my classmates. I think it is safe to say that I was also anxious at first and for me, this
feeling is completely a natural part of the process. But then, when everything starts I was
amazed by how comfortable and at ease I am with my teammates in a short span of time,
considering that it was the first time for all of us to interact with each other. Everyone is
considerate, participative, and interactive. And so, in my humble opinion conquering that
overwhelming and anxious feeling with other people is a small win for me already, in which I
know that it was the first obstacle that the activity wanted for us or me to conquer.

Heading forward, the morning session was just all about, interacting and getting to know
our teammates first. Now the funny thing is we get to know each other by preparing our chant
that we had to perform later on and I must say this was stressful yet also fun since we’d just
come up with the yell and had to think of the choreography minutes before the start of the
activity but that’s where the creativity and the participation of everyone kicked in. My teammates
tried to suggest whatever ideas they have come up with instead of relying on our leader most of
the time and I appreciate that. Furthermore, after the opening remarks, Ms. Garcia, who was our
guest speaker of the day, and is also an alumnus, shared her knowledge and experiences with
us which we actively listened to. And after all the talks, the competition was then formally
opened and it started with the chant and yell competition. And of course, the place was filled
with loud noises and cheers as each team performs their best and yelled loudly their creative
chants. Then we also get to play other games such as the longest line before having our lunch
break and eating out our free lunch meals, yey!

After having our lunch break we then proceeded with the afternoon’s activity, in which we
have to challenge not only the other teams but also ourselves against what they prepared called
an amazing race. This was I think the highlight of the event since it requires the participation of
every member for every station that consists of different games and challenges. Aside from that
this particular activity brought us the experience of what is teamwork all about. It delivered us a
goal-setting mindset, awareness, cooperation with each other, development of trust and
patience, and course camaraderie. And I must say that these processes provide improvements
to the group and even to our individuality.
Unfortunately, we did not win any challenges or even get to receive medals for placing in
the overall results. And surprisingly, I was okay with it. Maybe because I was not coming for the
applause and awards in the first place but for the experience and lessons that the activities and
event will give to me.

To end, SikoloHinga Inter-Personal Relationship (IPR) Team Building Activity 2023 was
really fun, and exciting yet very tiring too as most of the activities require a physical effort but I
did have a blast with it and enjoyed the whole activity. Although I am just a member of the
group, still the activity gives me a sense of leadership within myself. Also, I think the main
realization of this event is to convey to everyone that they belong here, that they belong to this
circle, which concludes that the event gives a sense of belongingness to every psychology
student. It sounds cringe but looking at other psych mates, enjoying the company of each other,
I am glad that I am part of this program and I’m hoping and looking forward to spending another
three years with this family and circle.
