METHODOLOGY FOR PLACING PLUM CONCRETE IN COKE OVEN BATTERY


AREA AND OTHER FOUNDATIONS OF COKE OVEN PROJECT AT JSPL,
RAIGARH (CHATTISGARH)

1. Introduction
This Method Statement provides details of placing plum concrete in Coke
Oven Battery Area for Coke Oven Project at JSPL, Raigarh (Chattisgarh).
The objective of plum concrete is to achieve required bearing capacity of soil
at the founding level.

2. Activities
The main activities described in this method statement are:
1. Excavation of site upto hard strata.
2. Placement of alternate layers of 100 mm thick concrete mix of 1:4:8 or
1:5:10 and 300 mm thick aggregate layer comprising of crushed
aggregates of size ranging between 40mm and 300mm.
3. Compaction of aggregate layer using tampers.
3. Construction Equipment
List of major plant and equipment to be deployed is as under:

4. Materials
4.1 1:4:8 or 1:5:10 Concrete Mix:
This concrete mix will be prepared by 10/7 concrete mixer and placed in
layers of 100 mm alternately with layers of plums.

4.2 Plums (Stones) of 40-300 mm size:


Plums of 40-300 mm size shall be placed in layers of 300 mm alternately
with layers of concrete mix.

5. Filling Procedure

5.1 Site Preparation

5.1.1 The ground will be excavated to the required depth so as to expose


the hard strata.
5.1.2 The limits of area to be filled shall be marked by pegs on both sides
at regular intervals.
5.1.3 All loose material shall be removed from the ground thus excavated.

5.1.4 A 100 mm thick layer of 1:4:8/1:5:10 concrete mix shall be placed


evenly on the ground thus prepared.
5.1.5 A 300 thick layer of plums (stones) of size ranging between 40 mm
and 300 mm shall be placed and compacted using hand tampers.
5.1.6 Steps 5.1.4 and 5.1.5 shall be repeated till the desired level is
reached.
