Case Study: Project Profile

Scenario Company ABC Ltd - Australia is expanding their business in Sydney.


Management has decided to open 6 branches. Each branch will have their
own HR Department, Branch Manager, Training Department and Finance
Department.

Each branch produces 2 products, Product Light Blue and Product Pink,
where the processes for each product are:

Product Light Blue:


• Process 1 – total employee 20
• Process 2 – total employee 15
• Process 3 – total employee 20

Product Pink:
• Process 4 – total employee 20
• Process 5 –total employee 15

There is a packaging line that works for both products. The costs will not be
captured in the process cost centres. The costs will be charged to the
Process cost centres for Product Light Blue (in process 1) and Product Pink
(in process 5) based on the percentage of quantities they produce. (Product
Light Blue produces 30 units and Product Pink produces 20 units).

There is a technician from Process 1 who is working on the packaging line.


The hours that the technician puts in for the work should be charged together
with other costs for the packaging line to both products (Light Blue and Pink).

Profitability reporting will be analysed by product. Management also would


like to analyse all costs in the processes and the costs from General &
Administration (in this case they don’t want to see the G&A details). The costs
are distributed/allocated based on percentages. The HR Department would
like to allocate their costs based on the employee number.

By the end of the month, each department and each process have captured
the following costs:
• Salary DEM $100000 (each)
• Office supplies DEM $5000 (each)
• Water DEM $5000 (each)
• Electricity usage DEM $ 10000 (each)

Costs incurred in packaging line:


• Material DEM $20000
• Technician – work completed 40 hours with rate $15/hr
• Meals DEM $500

Each of the branches is going to develop software for their processes (details
have only been captured for Process 1.)

Scope:
• Design
• Programming
• Training

The budget for the whole project is DEM $40000. The only part of the project
to generate an asset is programming. The Design phase has taken 50 hours
to complete the work (activity rate $30/hr) by Training Department. The project
expenses (Design & Training) are going to be charged to Process 1.

Instructions:

• Create organisation structure under Controlling Area R100 and all


necessary setup for month-end activities.
• Post all costs incurred.
• Perform month-end activities and run reporting.
